Dissidia Duodecim Final Fantasy Site Opens

I hope they add stages that aren't just the final dungeon areas. I would like to see areas such as Balamb Garden or Alexandria but I'm expecting more areas based on dungeons.

I'd be dissapointed if the game doesn't have 15 (at least) new characters, x2 number of stages and a not awful single player mode.

Or if they want to continue with that for the single player, the improved multiplayer features better mean infrastructure

The single player was already not awful.

New content or bust, I want content and loads of it.
The original had a useless story so cut that off, new modes, more items, more grinding stuff, characters and plz infrastructure.

blurgh.

I'm hoping they at least address a lot of the issues I had with the first game and fix the problems with the basic formula. This is probably going to end up being a new story with the same old gameplay, which is kinda too bad since the idea certainly has potential.

Ah well, it makes sense that they might be releasing it this way; the PSP is nearing the end of its lifetime. As I've said elsewhere, every single remaining high-profile PSP release except for FF Agito 13 will be released in at least one territory by the end of 2010 (IIRC) - now you can add Dissidia Duodecim to the list of 2011 releases, but it strikes me as something probably getting developed and pushed out in a much much shorter period of time than its predecessor so they can hit the platform while it's still alive and kicking.

Yeah, it's definitely a quick cash-in from the sound of things.

And Nomura said it'd be out before Agito. Who knows, maybe it'll even make it out in December in Japan. I'm doubtful, but it's possible.

The original didn't have any characters from XIII and (the already released for years) XI and XII were only represented by 1 'secret' character, I wouldn't hold my breath for anything Versus XIII related. Besides how can you know if you'd actually want any Versus characters without playing the game?

The game has a 2011 date, and Nomura said it'll be out after T3B, but before Agito. Probably March or April.

Thanks!

I'm buying T3B and Agito for sure, but Dissidia 012 needs to do a good bit more to win me over. I'll be curious to see what gets shown at TGS.

Are you effing serious?

This game should have been out by now, what is taking them so damn long?

Yeah, this is one of my biggest gripes with the original. The stage choices were terrible. One or two bland dungeons is enough, Square.

SE have been completely unable to deal with the current generation outside of the DS and the Osaka KH team, so why are you surprised?

Well I guess they were pursuing a formula with stage choices. Saying that I thought for the most part they were interesting and decently varied.

Yeah, I was just hoping that the amount of quality games would accelerate....like what gaming companies normally do during the ending cycle of a generation.

The PSP is clearly at the end of its lifecycle.

I had a thought: Wouldn't it be awesome to have Celes in the game as part of the Chaos team?

It's not like any other villain from FFVI would measure up to Kefka, so why not have her put in the side of Chaos unwillingly? Her story battle with Terra would be like Cecil/Golbez, only more dramatic.

Dramatic?

Look, I love stories in my videogames. I like good stories, hell, I even like shitty stories - why not? Different world, different rules, blah blah however I rationalize it. But there was nothing dramatic about Dissida. It literally was the worst piece of translated crap I've played in a game. It murdered all the characters. It's like they took 40+ hours of characterization, boiled them down to one line or theme (friends, roses, I fight for my friends!, dreams, whatever) and each "character" was nothing but an extension of this one line. In. Every. Scene.

It saddened me, the potential for fan service it could have been was wasted other than 'iz cool to see.'

Aw well. Though I agree, let's make everything more dramatic by even adding some real drama, eh? Will buy if the fix the 1-dimension of it all (not to mention, the actual writing was bad), cause the game was kinda fun, but if not I'm not sure I want to destroy my nostalgia any more.

So, I decided to compare Dissidia 012 with the original Dissidia...

It really doesn't look like they did much to the engine at all after 2 years. :/

:/ I liked the campaign in the first Dissidia, bite-sized battles that I could rip through on my commute to work.
Yeah, I didn't mind it much, just hoping for less story, more content (characters/stages/music) and hopefully some improvements to the batt-

Well to put things in perspective though, Super Street Fighter 4 has 10 new characters, various new online modes, bonus stages added back in, and gameplay changes/improvements and balance changes.

So this is Dissidia International?

I do see what you're saying, but honestly I'm not too bothered about the engine not improving much. IMO Dissidia even by todays standards, pushes the PSP to it's limit. I still think it's the finest looking game on the system and I don't expect much more from the sequel graphically. :/

What I'm interested in is content and variety, even if this game amounts to being not much more than an expansion pack. I think you're being a bit harsh on a game that only has two released screenshots to it's name. When they turn out four identical sequels I'll start worrying, but as it stands now, this is just more Dissidia - one of my favourite games ever - and that's definitely a good thing.

The original game looked good enough. Maybe they have spent most of the time adding features and content.

Who am I kidding, I'm sure they have spent the time planning and doing cutscenes for the horrible story mode.

No, that was Universal Tuning. It was released last year. This is clearly a sequel in terms of release. It's not the same game + more content. But it's a sequel which uses a lot of the same content as the original game, instead of being something totally different. Super Street Fighter is a very apt comparison.

I'm fine with the idea of a Super Dissidia as long as there is enough content and new characters.

Keep the true Dissidia 2 for next-gen handheld/consoles.

Ah, I was thinking more negatively because I really didn't know SSFIV was that substantial. If that is what this is, that wouldn't be too bad. Of course, I doubt they sell it for 2/3 the price of the original.

I think Balthier is a very likely candidate simply because he's popular and his weapon would introduce an interesting play style. Another very strong possibility would be a martial arts character like Tifa, Zell, or Snow. Since Lightning is in, Snow is unlikely.

While the initial announcement excited me, I'm not going to be fooled again.

Dissidia was one of the most disappointing games I've ever played. The premise is the stuff fan dreams are made of and yet almost every aspect of the game had me feeling like wasted potential.

The remixed music was lackluster. The Amano influenced character designs reminded me nothing of the games I love. Most stages didn't remind me at all of their respective worlds. The story/dialog as most here have mentioned was so lifeless and lame (roses,friendship,light/dark,believeinyourself). The AI was one of the most frustrating things ever, whether they were dodging your attacks at near cheating levels or playing run-away for 5 minutes straight on stages where it's almost impossible to catch them. The equipment system was not fun and made things very unbalanced. The brave system didn't make for close exciting battles, almost every round resulted in one player getting enough brave to one-shot the other.

I can't get excited for this. I can't even get excited just to see my beloved characters in 3D. I would love to see Celes in 3D, but odds are it would be ugly Amano banana suit Celes instead of the Shoulder guard, White cape, Green leotard Celes of my memories.

The game would have to be reworked from scratch to get me excited again. Dissidia is the single most worst case of wasted opportunity I can think of in the history of video games.

Unlike the first game, which I bought almost full price (collector's edition) - and it was worth it -, I'll surely get this game for more or less 20 € thanks to online UK retailers.
It will be more or less half the price I paid for the original !

No complaining at that price, for me.

Can't wait till the TGS reveal !

I hope they add more odd characters like Gabranth. I loved the fact that all of his special moves charged his EX bar, and he was only REALLY useful in EX mode. More strange characters like that would be a huge plus.

I hope Balthier isn't in it because that'll have an undue influence on my ability to make rational decisions about what I should and shouldn't spend money on.

Sexy sequel to one of my most played games.

Please Square-Enix, add another hero and villian for each entry. I'd love to see Sabin and General Leo, maybe even the beast himself, Ultros.

S-E if you're gonna include a FFXII protagonist I beg of you: Make up for what you done wrong.

Captain Basch of Dalmasca > Captain Vaan of Super Weenie Hut Jr.'s

Gestahl would be a better choice (although not the most popular)

Vayne and his young brother would be good choices, I think.

You're right, the emperor could be pretty badass, but that would mean three "long range" magic users from the FF6 universe and I'd like to see some more close quarters melee based combatants.

Would be great if it had a full fledged ARPG mode where you could cruise around a dungeon clobbering weaker baddies, collecting treasure, and gaining level. Then you could battle a boss in an arena like area, similar to the ones from the first title.

After re-reading some posts above, I guess it's pretty much a given that all characters from the first game will be returning.

It would be more like other fighting game series that way.
