dKaty Perry - Walking on Air

Remember that time Katy Perry released the most homophobic Top 40 song of the decade and was later rewarded with a Trevor award? Between that and this thread, I'm starting to think we deserve to be oppressed.
The only ones that song personally targets are Botty and DMJ

You’re so gay and you don’t even like boys
No you don’t even like
No you don’t even like
No you don’t even like boys
You’re so gay and you don’t even like boys
No you don’t even like
No you don’t even like
No you don’t even like…

I thought "Dark Horse" was her 2nd single off prism! Did it flop so hard she buried it to pretend it never existed? I have it on my iPod KAtty Perry it will live forever! TrippY!

Neither are official singles. They're promo singles which release exclusively for people who pre ordered/ or just DD only release and not being sent for adds on radio. Although that won't stop stations from playing it anyway

A ballad that's coming called Unconditionally will be the official 2nd single

Ah, I didn't know that there could be promo singles and Official singles. I thought regardless they would still be on the album

Remember that time Katy Perry released a song that contributed to a culture of bisexuality-erasure, describing her dalliance as a relationship that needs to be approved by the heteronormative patriarchy in order to be deemed "good"? Let me just hang myself with my H&M scarf.

I would say "Ur So Gay" cancelled out the effort from I Kissed a Girl, but Ur So Gay barely cracked the top 40 while I Kissed a Girl hit number 1 and effectively was the song that launched Katy Perry's career.

How many singles can a man buy before an actual album comes out?

She's not going to cheat us out on songs like Justin Timberlake and break it into 2 halves. I bet we at least get 15, then 5 bonus songs next year in the complete confection

Very uninspired song. The verses go nowhere. The phrasing of the chorus even sounds really odd the way the words wrap around, the timing is just weird. Then it goes into this voice sample part that sounds like C&C Music Factory or something. Was this song found in a time capsule from 20 years ago?

I've been listening to Chvrches all week, and man, it blows away this song with a vengeance.

No wonder she released "Roar" -- I mean, "Dark Horse" is okay, but it doesn't really amount to anything, it's very unsatisfying, and this track is very jarring in its early 90s gay club anthem sound.

Let's just hope "Unconditionally" is fire, and that there's some "Firework"/"Last Friday Night" quality singles lined up.

I just don't understand why they messed with the winning formula, though. Dared to play with magic, as it were. "California Gurls" followed by "Teenage Dream" and then "Firework" is one of the biggest singles successes of the past 10 years. The confusing promo single strategy didn't work for Gaga, and I don't see a perfect storm building this time either.

It's very inspired. It's interesting that you mention 20 years ago because music from that time period is exactly what inspired this song. Think Crystal Waters and CeCe Penniston.

And speaking of CHVRCHES, a lot of tracks from 'The Bones of What You Believe' could learn from Walking on Air. How to be catchy, instant, simple, fun to listen to on repeat, etc.

They're pretty "catchy" already. I have no idea what "instant" means in this context. But ironically, I think a lot of their songs have extremely strong introductions that hit you in the first 10 seconds, like Lies and Recover.

"Fun to listen to on repeat" is pretty much totally subjective. If you like the song, I guess you like it on repeat. If you don't like it, listening once is going to feel like forever. None of the songs we're talking about are ambient, or have similar beginnings or endings that help it loop well. Neither of them are objectively designed to repeat well.

"Simple," you got me there. Her song is definitely simple.

"Inspired," sure, it's inspired by 90s songs. I said as much. Saying the song is "very uninspired" though means something else.

not creative or spirited: an uninspired performance; an uninspired teacher.
The word in that context doesn't mean that it is literally an original work free from inspiration. It means that it's phoned in, without any major obvious creative and emotional content. Sounds like a generic 90s pop song.

Not really seeing where the mention of/comparisons to CHVRCHES are coming from.
They're not really similar at all. I just mentioned that I'm really enjoying that album at the moment.

I wish Perry would pursue more interesting stuff musically. She had a remix done by Yelle, so I know she's probably a fan of more experimental pop stuff. Maybe the rest of the album will have some good ones.

You know how Scott Walker started out as a pop singer and ended up weird as hell? Wouldn't it be the coolest thing ever if Katy did the same thing? Katy needs to make a Bish Bosch.

Yeah, as if the Pokemon fan base is the paragon of composure.

Run along now, don't you have some bad fan art to post 10 pages of?

Erm... I'm not a Pokemon fan, I only have that avatar because I like it (and I should change it). Also, I'm subscribed to PopGAF, ir was a joke post.

Heh. I immediately thought of Corona when I heard this.

This song reminds me of something but i can't think of what.

her voice has been getting better - john mayer giving her tips

Sometimes I like to scroll through a thread and try to guess what the gist is just from the pics and gifs posted.

I have no fucking clue.

Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson now has 3 songs in the top ten.
