Do NOT share next gen media with PC gamers

I was so impressed by the 3D PGR3 screen that I posted a link to it and stills of it on a Warcraft 3 message board populated with PC gamers. They've convinced themselves that it is a render and that the final product will NOT look like that. I told them that they were right, that the final product would also be in a much higher resolution.

Did this happen at the outset of the current generation? Did PC gamers get bent out of shape when they saw Rogue Leader, PGR, and Halo?

ima pc gamer I guess (meaning im dumb enough to buy a 300+ 3d card every year and a half and play pc games alot) I also own a gc ps2 and xbox. and I think itll be like it has been every past gen for the first year or 2 the new system will embarrass pc game tech then new hardware comes out and we catchup and then the last 2 years pc pull away.

not like graphics make a game anymore fun tho I say bring next gen ANNNND new pc games :lol

His first mistake was conversing with PC-centric gamers about a console game.

I think the mistake was for any pc-centric gamer to talk with console gamers about anything. It is easier to pull the wool over console gamers eyes than pc gamers. Screenshots are worthless when judging what a game looks like since the publishers fluff them in post. I want in-game video that is controlled by a person, none of this pre-rendered crap that goes for a next gen launch.

That is a render. Many screenshots released are not real and have been touched up before release.

The whole Bizarre article talks about tweaking lighting and reflections and speak of everything as if it will be in the final game.
He even said the skidmarks were done by him just before the screen was captured.

Meh. I play PC games mostly, and I expect console games to look much better than PC games the first couple years.

When the very first X360 media came out I think I said it didn't look good enough. Looked like something that could easily be made on a 6800 with a P4.

It's improving, a few titles anyway. Oblivion for example should look better. But then again, a PC can have more than 512MB of RAM and more HDD resources. Depends on how much Bethesda optimizes it.

While we'll see better video cards next year than the console's hardware, consoles will still have the advantage in CPU/RAM performance. And it'll still have the benefit of static hardware and some of the best 3D talent in the industry. For that reason, I don't expect PC games clearly being ahead until late 2007.

If it isn't in the build that they are using for the screenshots, they shouldn't add it or touch it up. It's dishonest and people are going to be in for a rude awaking when the games don't look as good as they were promised.

...I think it will be earlier than that, just wont be many developers stepping up to the plate to show off the newer hardware...well we dont think so, Farcry for instance came out of no where.

Well if this works like the demo I've seen in Leipzig, they are able to drive around the track as in a normal game and when they want to they can detach the camera and fly anywhere they want to make screenshots. During this they are able to have the car continue driving automatically or not.

Even 1280x720 is below the resolution that the PC hardcores crave at this point (though they will drop down when needed to keep framerate up in the 85fps range).

Even though Halo 2 is a great looking game in many respects, it doesn't live up to many of the pre-release screenshots (not just resolution, but also level of detail). I eagerly await the day I can play some of these games instead of looking at screenshots or videos that were produced using who-knows-what hardware, even the realtime ones.

I just read through it. What a waste of time that was...even a kick in the nuts would have been slightly more interesting. Some PC gamers really piss me off

A typical conversation at college went like this:

Them: "PS2 games will never look as good as games on my PC"
Me: "Your PC cost five times the price of a PS2"
Them: "So? What's your point?"
