Do Panzer Dragoon Orta, Jet Set Radio, & Gunvalkyrie deserve a 2nd chance on Wii?

I didn't mean for my comment about 360 sales to spark a debate.

I agree that (at least Orta) should get more exposure. It would be a good Wii title. I can't really see Gun Valkyrie working with the Wiimote.

A new Jet Set Radio game would be amazing if you could do graffitti with the Wiimote, but I imagine Jack Thompson would cause an uproar about that.

wasn't alcibiades crying for gamecube versions of these games...like...five years ago? didn't he write pathetic emails to sega, in fact? pining for wii versions of the games gamecube never got is...i don't even know what it is...it's like a father trying to set his son up with the girls he couldn't nail in highschool, never mind the age gap. the last thing we need is more 'game x should be on wii' threads, but it'd be healthier to dream about a new panzer or jsr than ports of the old ones.

They absolutely deserve another chance, but frankly I don't care if it's on the Wii, the 360, the PS3, the PSP, the DS...whatever.

More please.

edit: Ah, I incorrectly assumed this was talking about sequels. Remakes/ports? Maybe on PSP or Wii, I guess.

As ports of the Xbox games, none of them would be a good idea. But as sequels . . .

Panzer Dragoon and Gunvalkyrie? No. PD was about lock-on; it wouldn't benefit much from remote. Gunvalkyrie wasn't too good in the first place.

Jet Set Radio? Yes. Shaking the remote like a spray can and tagging with the cursor make sense. Custom graffiti could be imported via the SD card. Wii should do a great job with the cell-shaded graphics.

I know Gunvalkyrie was rebuilt to some extent when it was moved from DC to Xbob. Has Sega ever spilled the beans on what was changed aside from the method of control? If the core of the game is relatively close to what was originally planned, I'd love to try the original control scheme (using the nunchuk and wagglewand) just once.

Clicking the analog stick while holding a direction - and doing this on both sticks while firing with the triggers and boosting - completely destroyed the Xbox version for me. There are people who adore it, but they are a higher form of human life than me.

A new Panzer Dragoon using the wagglewand would be appropriate.

Well, I've yet to see too many 3rd party games sell particularly well (in the US) on Wii. Sure, the actual console is selling like gangbusters but...

Tre, have you seen what they do to people that suggest that 3rd parties don't sell on the wii? Are you sufficiently insured?

Yeah I remember those threads. We'd start with the weekly Sega sales charts across all platforms, where eventually it would turn into a cry for those games on the Cube. Great reads back then.:lol

What makes you think they'd port PDO and JSRF just because a totally different company on totally different hardware did the same thing? And bring them to the Wii no less...

Atleast RE4 to RE4 Wii had some kind of connection...

And this is from someone who owns PDO and JSRF (didn't pick up GunValkie because of the wonky controls from the demo - probably could've learned to like them, but I guess I didn't give it a chance)...

GV... how about gestures with the nunchuck to control the camera/character orientation shifts, gestures with the wii mote to control the boosting... basic movement with the analogue stick. Aiming with the pointer. Probably be easier for most people than the clicking in the sticks method.

I'm not going to say it started pretty by any means, but as soon as the system potshots started, well...
would you be okay if this thread became a GunValkyrie hate thread?

i just copied the link and changed "forum.gaming-age.com" to "www.neogaf.com/forum." though the walmart thread would also be appropriate

I guess JSR spraying would be cool on Wii, but Gunvalkyrie's all I played extensively. I'd like it on Wii, or maybe another zippy jetpack game. The pointer might help selecting lock-on targets, but I think the accelerometers would be most useful. Control in 3 dimensions, yay.

While I'd honestly prefer to see Jet Set Radio and Panzer Dragoon given another chance on a "next-gen" system, I suppose Jet Set Radio's cel-shaded aesthetic would lend itself well to the Wii's capabilities. And perhaps some interesting stuff with tagging could be done with the wii-mote/nunchuck set-up. Both in-game and in a custom spray edit mode.

Makes sense, but truth be told they are barely worth the cost. Even if it was cheap to port them over(it could cost more than it seems), there's still publishing. All of them were pushed hard on the Xbox and they all failed really badly. I'd like to see them on Wii(or anywhere else) but I'm certainly not holding my breath.

EDIT: sorry about that, didn't read the second page until now :(

No. They deserve sequels on a console with some immersive controls above the hood. Wii or Wii, thank you.

Fixed.
Really, what´s with all the Wii-trolling in this topic?

And again, no. I want new games, as in sequels, with cmplete new designs, levels, characters and what not.
Wiimakes = the evil
And considering the success of the Wii, the console deserves exclusivley built, new games.

With the incredible reception of Resident Evil 4 on Wii, it seems like the game was given a new life for relatively cheap.

It seems like Sega could really breathe life into some of their old XBox games by putting them in a system with such a large audience and with so much buzz. It seems like anything that is released on Wii is getting a lot of attention.

I really hope Sega considers putting these games on Wii even if they disbanded their teams. Doesn't seem like ports would be too expensive considering the Wii has about the same power as the XBox, and maybe they can make Gunvalkyrie work with waggle somehow (though they should include classic and GCN control support like RE4)

I really hope Sega doesn't port these babies to the Wii. Would only ruin them with the horrible wiimote and horrible graphics. I mean the RE4 Wii looks worse than the GC version. Looking at the sales in Japan, the game didn't sell to well either.

It'd be better if they got a second chance with next-gen sequels on the 360.

I agree

Umm no. PDO is a perfect fit for Wii considering it's a shooter type and it's not JSR needs much when it comes to grahics considering it's cel shaded and never was huge pusher when it comes to visual. Sega should avoid ms platforms they were worst performing of the three last time and I doubt things are going to change.

Ummmm no. According to drones (not calling you a drone) everything is a perfect fit for the Wii. I have yet to play any games on the Wii that is better than a PS3 or 360 game.

PDO would be SO AWESOME on the PS3/360.

We need new games in those series though.

Panzer, and Jet Set would be a perfect fit for the 360/PS3.

Fixed. Don't want these gems being downgraded for the Wii. I mean the Wii can't even handle Xbox ports, what make you think it could handle these beauties that were programmed heavily for the Xbox?

Eternal Sonata says JSR sequel would look better on the 360 or PS3 than the Wii.

I'm not sure why there are so many lukewarm reactions in this thread. These games, remade and reimagined with the revolutionary motion sensing constoller would be uniquely possible on the Wii. With Metroid Prime 3, Super Mario Galaxies, Super Smash bros Brawl, and possibly titles like Jet Set Radio Future, Panzer Dragoon Orta, and Gunvalkyrie it's boggles my mind, trying to see the projects at the end of the system's lifespan. These games will clearly set some technological benchmarks.

;P

I certainly hope ports of 4 year old games does not become a trend.
I'm surprised anybody would be willing to pay anything more than bargain bin prices for last gen games.

Jet Set Radio on the wii, if done correctly, would melt faces.

This is true. Tagging alone would be far more immersive with the Wii Remote, tracing designs while spraypaint sounds come out of the remote's speaker. (Maybe even freestyle painting in some modes?) Tilting the Nunchuk could affect the character's lean, causing their momentum on rails or their turns around corners to be subtly altered. And of course, there's always the appealing idea of playing with or against friends online as you leave your mark on the city.

Wii is getting good Sega support, I might even say almost better than GameCube:

Super Monkey Ball
NiGHTS (come on, NiGHTS!)
Sonic
Ghost Squad
Sonic and Mario at the Olympic games (okay not a real franchises here but...)

+ the ever growing Sega VC library

Now we already got two games I think no one expected (NiGHTS and Ghost Squad), definately on the good track. Keep up the hope, if we hold on just a bit longer we might get our much missed franchises delivered after all... Jet Set Radio, Panzer Dragoon, Skies of Arcadia, Gunvalkery, Shenmue,... But it'll probably take Sega another 5 years before they recognize their potential. ;p

We'll get Samba before these awesome games.

Oh please, the Wii graphics are better than their original consoles and that's that. They would be getting an improvement no matter what console they're ported to, and the Wii's control scheme would work fine.

Port them to PC no matter what!

Panzer Dragoon Orta, Jet Set Radio would be awesome on the Wii, seriously.

I can picture using the Wiimote to spray paint some walls. oh wait the Jack thompson crowd would be all out to get that game.

But no, we can't have good things.

Um I can still find PDO, JSR, and Gunvalkyrie in Gamestops just fine.

I want games like these Sega bombs to get another shot at an audience, and that goes for stuff like Okami and Killer 7.
Why did those Sega games bomb? Oh that's right, because people like you never bought them in the first place!

Nice job throwing in those Capcom titles as a stinger, too.

Maybe you could save us some time and make a list of games from other (filthy, philistine non-Nintendo) systems that you don't want on the Wii. I'm pretty sure it would take less time than what you've spent on this thread already.

Deserve? No, the correct question would be: does Wii deserve those games? And the answer would be: ports, yeah, why not.

The new installments in those series should appear on powerful hardware, expecially PDO.
