Do people really sit around watching video podcasts?

It seems that every podcast now has a video feed, and a lot of times they even act like the video version is the main way to consume it. I can't imagine having the kind of time that would be needed for that. I think of podcasts/radio shows as something to listen to while doing other things. Working, driving, exercising, cooking, walking, cleaning. I turn them on a lot during many situations! Never something to just sit around watching these guys talking though.

Yes. I prefer video format for the few I listen to. Nine Club & Rogan mostly.

Yeah so when I listen to Rogan, I'll watch the video for maybe the first five minutes, top. See the guest, you know. I'm not going to just watch these guys in a studio for 3 hours though. I don't get that.

For me it's rare. It's got to be a 1/100 podcast. Occasionally I will look at the screen to see the faces or reactions of the people on the podcast if there is an interesting moment. Most of the time I am doing one of the following,

1: Playing a video game. It's great to listen to podcasts while grinding in an RPG or otherwise doing some part of a video game that is not part of the story or particularly thrilling.

2: Running/walking. When I'm exercising I'm always listening to a podcast or music.

3: Doing a really mundane task at work.

If I'm not doing any of the above I might actually watch the video, but it's still got to be a really great podcast or i'll start doing one of the above.

I can read and listen faster than I can watch a video—and both are more convenient than video virtually all of the time. So I’m with the OP, never watch them.

Shrug. I’ve got the same problem with video essays, I don’t have an hour to watch when it has like 5 minutes worth of reading in it. Darn shame the written word can’t even make podcast money lol

I like watching videos. I find Joe Rogan in particular to be much more enjoyable on youtube compared to spotify. I just like seeing his expressions and the occasional screen capture of an image or article they're talking about. Plus, who doesn't like reading comments? I do for sure browse and surf the web/forums when listening to podcasts as well, but that's passive, lazy, non-serious listening.

I find audio books to be a much better way to entertain a long drive somewhere. I usually listen to music during average commutes rather than trying to pay attention to a some crime/horror podcast or whatever I'm currently into when I'm at the comfort of my bedroom desk.

Usually I listen when I'm doing more mechanical stuff at my work. But it is cool to have it on video so I can stop the work for some moments to see a particular reaction. I would not want to lose Elon Musk smoking marijuana. Then I continue working.

As with most YouTube content, I’d usually split the computer screen. One half with a video podcast and the other with whatever else. Even with video game and political podcasts it’s sometimes nice to see the expressions of the hosts and guests. Easy Allies is still only doing their shows via Zoom but I’ll still half-watch them because I want to see the people.

That said, I’ve been doing more audio-only podcasts recently because my job allows me to listen to something the vast majority of the time.

I much prefer audio. Treat it like a radio broadcast. Plus audio takes up less data if I’m going to listen on the move. If they mention anything etc I can just look it up on the internet.

I actually have a similar question about audio podcasts. Do people really listen to podcasts? I've tried to listen to some of them, and there usually was a host and a guest. So a host tells something on the topic, a guest says something meaningless, and they fucking COMMUNICATE and DISCUSS (as in fucking radio) and there is ad every now and then. Very little valuable information, it is much better to read non-fiction books on the topic or listen to fiction-audiobooks if you don't have time for reading (you do).

I put them on 144p and leave them in the background. Only use youtube on my computer because the player is usually better than whatever shitty embedded mp3 player most podcast sites use.

People even watch other people playing games and streaming, I don't fucking get it's a waste of time (like watching sports)

You realize people have been "sitting around watching people talk" since basically the dawn of television, right?

I got introduced to Rogan through YouTube while chilling on the couch. It's just part of it for me. Nine Club often shows video clips so there it's critical for me to watch.

I don't mind audio only but unless I am driving/traveling, it most likely means I'm not paying attention.

Watching is the only way for when Alex Jones is on Rogan

I usually listen to audio podcast when I travel on a long journey and driving alone (work related trips). It really helps to keep me up and enjoying driving hours alone in the middle of the night.

Yes. I prefer watching podcasts. I get too distracted when it is audio only.

I think a large part of it is mannerisms. Especially if you have a guest like Alex Jones who communicates a lot with his hands, facial expressions and whatnot. It's funnier.
