Do you fall asleep to videos?

Ever since college, I've fallen asleep watching something or other. I've got ADHD, and so my brain tends to race at night in isolation, preventing me from sleeping. I found early on that watching (or, more accurately, listening to) familiar TV shows or videos helps me release my focus and fall asleep faster.

Initially in the mid 2000s, I used South Park as a way to fall asleep, since I had seen every episode, so I didn't really have to pay attention. These days, I usually find YouTube videos I've seen before to help me doze off. I usually listen to something like The Why Files, Sam O'Nella, Bobbybroccoli, or hbomberguy to fall asleep. Those long form essay videos usually sink me right out.

Does anyone else here use YouTube or other media to help them sleep? If so, what's your go-to?

I download podcasts on YouTube, put them on low volume and fall asleep to them
 
It's impossible for me to fall asleep if I hear music or a video, but way back when I had massive sleeping problems I would listen to night time radio and turn it off just before I finally fell asleep. Nowadays I listen to something while taking a nap as it helps my mind focus on something while I relax. I think it's sort of the modern day form of lullabies that we listened to as kids.

I really love listening to those youtube Star Wars music videos that have combined ambience sounds. Sometimes I imagine myself as a tired and weary war veteran jedi who's travelled to a far away planet to gather his strengths. Sometimes I'm in Yoda's hut cramped inside sheltered from the rain. Very relaxing lol.

I wouldn't be able to fall asleep watching or listening to something, I'd end up paying too much attention to it. I tend to go to sleep really late and wake up really early, so when I do end up trying to sleep I'm knocked out.

You should find some ASMR Star Wars Videos on YouTube
 
Yep, listening to documentaries or lore videos about something on youtube, it stop the mind from thinking allowing me to go to sleep. Need to manage the light but I have worked it out.
 
I usually watch a show or a gaming YouTube video.

Funny enough, I've fallen asleep to South Park and Family Guy for the exact same reason OP because I've seen it all and wouldn't be upset if I didn't see it all lol.

I usually play documenter/soomething that doesnt need attention. And sometimes the deep voice like sleeping spell to me.
 
I would like that since i have severe insomnia but no, to me it is absolutely alien to sleep while watching something even if i slept 7 total hours in a week.

Never tried playing animal crossing tho, that could do the trick.

Yes. I don't watch, only listen. When I was much younger, Forensic Files, City Confidential, New Detectives, FBI Files. Then went to mostly History Channel content, then on to YouTube. I prefer to listen to historical videos on Sumer, Akkad, Rome, etc. I also will listen to gaming essay videos as well these days. Thougu not my primary go to anymore, I will still choose the crime documentaries at times.

Almost every single night for the past 15 years, but at least 50% of the time the years prior to that.
 
Regularly when i am tired in the afternoon, while watching youtube videos, even if they are generally interesting.
 
I close my eyes, And I fall asleep. If I struggle sleeping or getting there then I usually quote scripture and that will help put me in a sleep mode.
 
I'll normally put a long af podcast on or similar, but it needs to be something just engaging enough to distract me from my own brain, but without being actually exciting or raucous.

My go-tos are history podcasts or EFAP, where they spend like 8 hours talking about a movie.
 
For the last couple of years, my job has involved doing digital audio restoration of old interviews. I collect snippets of good naturally soft ASMR voices and play myself to sleep with those sometimes.
 
I also did this, but feels just like drinking alcohol to fall asleep. You sort of become dependent on it. If you can't fall asleep without having a video on there's probably something going on that you should fix instead. On the other hand it's kind of harmless so it's not that big of a deal. Just weird if you think of it like this: phones and screens in general are relatively new and nobody needed them to fall asleep until very recently.

People used to drink cocaine. I don't really care what's considered "normal" as the human experience today is as far away from natural as there is. Many people work with displays that emit light that they react to and then come home to a fully lit home that's lit with ceiling lights. And then there's light pollution in whole cities which makes it hard to even see the stars.

So if you can use technology to aid whatever problems technology creates then it's a zero sum game.

Sure and I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing, but I do think it's always good to keep in mind that it's not really "normal" so at least you can reflect on what might be the cause and if there's a possibility to remove that cause.
 
I first did it one night when I couldn't sleep, and now it's a bit of a habit.

I did Elden Ring lore for a while, now I do MonHun tutorials as that's my current game.

I put in my old airpods (or just one if I'm side sleeping) and it/they tend to fall out while sleeping which will pause whatever is playing.
 
Harry Potter audiobooks helped me finally fall asleep in a reasonable time period. Silence = thoughts = no peace = no sleep. Something too interesting = thoughts etc... Harry Potter audiobooks are silly enough and now that I know the story inside and out it's even easier to engage my brain at a low level and distract it from the things that prevent me from sleeping.

Lately I've been taking a little break and rolling with Asmongold videos and the like. Not quite as good but I'm still able to mostly fall asleep. I definitely don't actually watch anything though. I usualy roll with a sleep mask. Too much ambient light around, and I find that having something physically covering my eyes makes me a lot less likely to open my eyes.

Listening to music doesn't work for me. "Listen to the waves of the ocean" or fan noise don't work for me.
 
My wife´s a "TV sleeper", keeps the TV running in bed until she falls asleep.
I need silence and darkness, so I idle on the couch until she´s asleep before I go to bed and turn the damn thing off.
 
Absolutely. If I don't have some kind of background noise I tend to have bad dreams. Best I can guess is it keeps my sleeping brain from wandering too much.
 
No but my wife does. If we ever got on the same schedule we'd need separate rooms. I can't stand the TV being on when I want to sleep.
 
Yeah, but not intentionally. I've dozed off more times than I can count with my feet up on the computer desk watching YouTube or TV or a movie.
