Do the new iPods not support firewire any longer?

All they seem to talk about is USB 2.0. But can you still plug in a dock -> firewire cable and have at it?

They will display an error message onscreen the iPod if you connect via Firewire.

They will charge via Firewire though; I charged my Nano with the AC adaptor + Firewire method.

i wonder why they took it out... especially since I believe firewire transfers data much faster than usb 2.0 on macs.

I could be very wrong about that though

how long would 60 gigs take to transfer over usb?

Relevant links: Firewire, USB2.

Relevant quote:

"Although USB2 claims to be capable of higher speeds (480mb/s), FireWire is, in practice, faster."

USB is cheaper however and has simpler and smaller circuitry, allowing for potentially smaller devices. Firewire is not supported by iPods any more, but this should come as no surprise as Apple is simply leveraging the massive PC market to fund their projects.

All that said, I just ordered one.

What sucks is that I have a firewire port on my computer but not USB 2.0. But oh well. I don't have a new ipod yet either.
