How do you do it? What's your setup look like, and what grain purveyors do you use? What's your yield?

I used to do production for a medium size brewery (kegs and cans). There were a lot of home brewers that loved to visit our floor and tap house!

Moving vats of beer was good times.

I simply don't have the space nor funds to do it. I think it would also be illegal without a licence where I currently live.

My mother used to homebrew though, before I was born. I remember finding the barrel and kit in the shed and asking what it was for.

She never started it up again while I was at living at home. Just some simply infusions like sloe gin.

I have a garage, but it wouldn't be conducive to home-brewing at the moment. I should look into a 2 day outside-boil, but I'm not ready to monitor the kettle for 40 hours straight.

I do very small brews using 2 gallon buckets and 1 gallon jugs. Works great.

Make a pretty good cider. Beer is trickier

What fruit do you cider? I've seen apple as the most common I guess.

Yup. Apples. Done my own pressing and used like farmers market fresh pressed. (The latter being much easier if you don't have a press).

Also kombucha (stuff is delicious). Never cared much for store bought. Do vinegars as well

I need to study more about brewing kombucha it seems so healthy!

I've done mead as that requires very little and, at the time, it was pretty hard to get ANY commercial mead.

It's pretty simple, basically honey, yeast, and water/fruit juice. Thr hardest thing really is keeping everything clean and sterile when all you have are little kitchen sinks. If I had a basement that would stay cooler through the smmer I'd definitely outfit it for brewing.

I tried beer for a bit, I think I used a few of those "Mr. Beer" kits. My dad had one and gave it to me after a few years. Damned thing tasted like molasses

Anyway, for me, the effort of brewing beer doesn't match what I can buy.

I used to brew beer like a mofo until my second kid was born. It's not that I don't have the time now, I just always hated the cleanup process. My last few batches were terrible as well, so it zapped my motivation.
I also made several batches of wine - much easier cleanup, but the waiting and sheer volume of each batch was too much. It is a great way to make holiday gifts and give bottles around the holidays, etc.
I do miss it a lot and have thought a lot recently about making a nice hard cider. Super easy to make, clean, and not screw up too much!!!

Oh man, its a lot of fun. Easy, healthy, and delicious! Highly recommend this one.

Kombucha is fermenting, not brewing. I do that as well (and the occasional sauerkraut, sourdough starter, etc).

Those take constant regular upkeep, more of a lifestyle

I'd like to try those ageing minibarrels with white dog spirit, see if I can replicate a decent bourbon in way less time

I used to do all grain 5 gal batches, tried a few different styles. Stouts, Porters, Reds and IPAs.. Then moved a bunch and I haven't really gotten back into it. Sold a bunch of the gear like the 5 gal keg but, I kept bottles and a basic gear set to still do it someday. I've settled so looking forward to doing it again, once the newborn gives me some time too. Who knows when that will be.
