Do You Consider Messenger Bags on Men a Purse?

So I need something to carry around my laptop and other items. I've been looking at a lot of messenger bags on Amazon. I've only seen a few that I would actually consider wearing. Otherwise, it seems that the majority of messenger bags either look really dumb or rather feminine (imo). *Note: Not actually considering the above picture's bag, just wanted to clarify in case people didn't know what they were.

Alternatively, I might just get another (larger) Swiss Army backpack:

but I'm definitely open to any other recommendations. Thoughts?

Yup. It's a purse. But we're accepting of alternative lifestyles around here.

People in this day and age really still have a problem with messenger bags for being 'too feminine'? That sounds really insecure to me.

I greatly prefer a messenger bag to a backpack, I've never once thought of it as a purse. That's like called a duffelbag a purse.

Yep, but I prefer the term manbag for mine. It's small, brown, made by Columbia, and just big enough for me wallet, phone, keys and a handfull of change. But it does go over the shoulder and hangs by the waist.

Nowadays I just chuckle to myself when someone calls my messenger bag a purse/murse. I mean, really? Still?

Yes, I can never use one of those things. I noticed them for the first time many years ago when Jim used it on the office and thought they looked awful. Obviously don't care if anyone else uses it but I feel like only bankers and interns wear it.

Seriously. Even my friend who has to do everything so macho and manly is looking at messenger bags.

Any recommendations for messenger bags? Been thinking of getting another, the one left over from high school is so torn up.

What? Why would a Messenger Bag be a Purse?

It's just a less formal briefcase. Do yourself a favor and pick up a nice dark brown leather one, and watch your style increase 10 points.

These can be hell in the summer. I did a lot of walking in the city my first year with one of these, and the constant super sweaty back is what made me switch to a messenger bag in the first place.
Granted that was also the hottest summer on record in Atlanta or something insane like that so that was probably also a factor.

I like messenger bags on men. Don't have one myself. If you're obsessed with whether it can be categorized as a purse or what that says about your gender identity you probably have some deeper issues to work out.

I carry this quite often:

It's meant for a camera, but it's a good size to tote small items such as keys, 3DS, loose change. And my makeup and tampons.

So yes, I don't mind it being called a purse.

Personally, if I see a grown man walking around wearing a backpack like he's still in school, I strongly question his character. Any professional I've ever worked with in the real world carries a Messenger. What the hell else is there for your laptop? I'm not putting my MBP in some thin backpack sideways.
