Do you hate where you currently live?

Sorry for the bitching , just need to vent. My wife and I had to go back to Puerto Rico last year and while I was happy at first, I quickly remembered why I left this shitty place (shitty people, shitty government, shitty power structure, etc). This island sucks, if you ever come here don’t try and live here , it’s not worth it (the only real advantage it had is gone).

I love my town. I live in an affluent city that has been recognized as the safest city of its size for like 20 years in a row. Some say it's borning, but I adore this peaceful feel.

Nothing beats clean stores, beautiful neighborhoods and tons of access to everything I could want. Plus the weathers mostly nice.

It's kind of expensive tho

Yes. I live in a place that has the exact climate/weather to cause me to have chronic migraines. It's been a life-long endeavor to figure out what the causes were - and if only I had known before moving back here. One day I'll move away again, I hope.

No. I love it here. It's my home. My heritage. My national identity. The only other place on Earth I'd live is Poland.

Sure, the UK government is making life hell at the moment, but governments are temporary.

I hate the house I currently live in yes. It’s an old property and to many things are going wrong with it.

And I don’t like the area anymore either. Or my neighbours.

In an apartment in Korea. Hate city or city adjacent living. Can’t stand all the noise. Too many people.

Looking forward to my return back in the US in a few months. I miss living in my own house, going into the backyard, and slow smoking large cuts of meat for hours. Or modifying the premises to my liking based on current needs.

Rural Japan, which is pretty nice.

That said:
  • in nature here there's always some sort manmade thing somewhere if it's not overgrown. I miss the UK were there were whole swathes of countryside that had almost nothing manmade, but due to human influence were easy to access (not overgrown, plenty of footpaths, etc.).
  • I miss a good range of cheese at prices that don't make me consider taking out a loan.
  • I hate the summer, and it only seems to have gotten longer to now be unpleasant for at least four months of the year.
  • Japanese people are still a bit odd to me, even after years of living with them. They are almost all incredibly polite, the vast majority are very respectful (thus low crime, etc.) But they can be quite cold, not that open, can be quite ready to ghost people, and if you manage to get into a situation that requires going against the grain... good luck persuading most of them to try something different.
The only thing that really ticks me off is driving in Japan. The drivers yes, but more the number of traffic lights. Learn what a fucking roundabout is Japan.

Ranting aside, almost everything else is great. I am moving back to the UK in the end though, as I feel like I've had my fill of Japan.

My ex is from PR. She echoes your sentiments.

Nice place to visit in my experience. Not a great place to live.

My current city is OK, just lots of traffic and relentlessly humid most of the year.

Currently fucked by a government that isn't what everyone believes them to be, setting us on a crash course towards +20% inflation and with a crippled schooling and medical system.

Why Poland?

I'm really happy with where I live. Cost of living is the only annoyance. Curious what's wrong with PR. I was thinking of moving their myself for a few years.

Barometric pressure headaches. It's like a shit superpower that you know when a thunderstorm is coming. Would be quite useful if you were a sailor over 100 years ago though. I used to get them but as I've got older they don't happen very often at all, so hopefully you'll get them less too.

Its okay but I live next to a hikikomori woman who watches TV at full volume from 6 am to midnight every single day. If she steps outside out for a cigarette she is always wearing earphones so I assume she wears them while watching TV too which is why it is so loud.

18 hours a day? fuck that. have you spoke to her and asked her to turn it down?

There's plenty of places in the UK I wouldn't want to live, but my country village is pretty great. Quiet, picturesque, friendly and clean.

It's not as annoying as it could be because she lives in a house on the opposite of the road. It must be ear piercingly loud inside her actual living room because I often here the sound clipping on TV lol. I feel more sorry for the old grannies who live in a small apartment building directly next to her place. I find it more weird than annoying to be honest.

Didn't really care that much for the place I grew up, a small village on the west coast of Ireland. I really do love where I currently live, on the east coast of Ireland, just on the edge of Dublin. I have a really nice house up on a hill overlooking the Irish Sea, on a clear day I can see Wales from my front door.

Salford, Manchester. Surrounded by inbred fuckwits, faux meatheads with big cars to replace their small penises, and a few bagheads sprinkled along the street. Fuck loads of weed, smelt and sold 😄 having said that, there is never any trouble. Bottom half of the street looks after the top half, mostly pensioners. Do their gardens, for nothing, sort em out some smoke for their tea in the afternoon. It's weird, and strangely endearing in a way. 😄

25k people town in Poland: it's really not bad, i like it here that it's not overcrowded and it's one of the richer towns around so looks good overall. What sucks in Poland is low wages (compared to western Europe) and this is true for all its history i guess.

Other place i think of that i could live in is New Zealand probably.

Yup. California has gone to hell. We've discussed moving but tough choice seeing how all our family is here. The only thing that makes it tolerable is all the entertainment. I live outside the city so don't have to deal with all that chaos.

I lived in Philadelphia for close to four years and it was the most miserable time of my life. I absolutely hate that city. I have since moved to Massachusetts. It is better, but I don’t love it or see my family here long term. As a southern boy, I don’t know if I’ll ever be really happy in the north.

I live in rural Ohio between two small cities (approx 10,000 people each). There are a ton of awesome Mexican restaurants here and I’m 10 minutes from a Walmart and Kroger. We don’t have bad winters here, but when we get an inch or more of snow work is cancelled. We have fast affordable internet (500 down/25 up for $40 a month) so I can play with my old high school buddies…I love it here!

Phoenix. Mostly love it. I live near the mountain in a land-locked area where there's minimal traffic. It's quiet and there's less light pollution at night. Hiking trails are in walking distance. Downside would be the summers and amount of people moving here.

I’d rather be in my other homeland of Queensland right now, thanks to the political shit show here in the UK. But then I had a really good flat white this morning in one of my local coffee places, and took a walk through Regents Park between the rain, so all in all…. Far worse places to live.

I was born and raised in Chicago. I left a few times over the years, but always came back. If you would have told me 30 years ago that I would come to loathe not only the city, but the country I live in, I'd've laughed you out of the room.

But here we are.

To be clear, I still love both. I don't hate the city or the country per se; I hate what "progressives" are doing to them, and I hate what the powers that be are doing to the economy.

It's a proper fucking shitshow, to be sure, and one that I don't think has even properly started.

But hey, at least it's not Canada.

Canada. Toronto specifically. Love it for the most part. Wish the weather was nicer (though this weekend is amazing), and part of me gets tired of urban living, but I do at times reflect that of all the places in the born in, I’m rather happy it was this one.

I've lived all over the UK.
Currently in Bristol. Nice place with a great music scene but to cost of living is getting ridiculous.
I'm having to sell my car. Not a great loss as the traffic is insane here.

UK on the whole. Government is totally fucked.
Sometimes it's better the devil you know.

South Central Mexico. Born and raised on a farm in Illinois, lived near a University town of about 200,000. Couldn't stand the Winters (especially February) and in my 28-years there I never really fit in with anyone.

I met my wife then girlfriend in 2016. She's Mexican and asked me to come visit. I'd never left the U.S. or gone anywhere international where English wasn't the primary language. But by 2016, I was ready for a change.

Positives:
- City I live in is a garden city with tropical plants which stay green yearround
- The best food (not just Mexico...there are German, Belgian, Italian, French, Korean and Japanese immigrants)...all have local business and restaurants with affordable imports
- Economy. Almost every consumer electronic or product is more afforable here. Everything in the economy reminds me of how U.S. economy was in the 50's (based on those I know who lived it)
- People are very friendly to foreigners and tend to treat you like family almost instantly
- Less crime than where I grew up in Illinois. We're near the Gulf and the crime rings of cartels work the Pacific coast which is far off from me.
- My wife and I have a home I could have only dreamed of in Illinois

Too many positives but things I dislike (not going to say hate)

- You can pretty much drive without a license. This should come as no surprise that most taught themselves to drive. Drivers are homocidal maniacs. Never take an Uber, city bus or taxi unless you want to take a gurney as your last vehicle
- I said less crime but not zero crime. Petty theft and grand theft are pretty big. People will steal anything...even a doormat. Beef up your home security
- I can't stand really any Mexican music. Just, no. Everything song is the same three chords or melody. Grew up on Euro-Prog rock and Jazz...
- Pollution. It's not super bad here like in Mexico city but no one make a small effort to try buying vehicles made prior to 1990 that are burning oil. You'll have that one neighbor who buys 3 junkers and does no maintenance.

Other than that, we're okay.

I do miss the quiteness of the countryside where I grew up sometimes. We're at a 7 million + population here but the ranches here are nice. Just too remote and no fiber optic internet providers on the outskirts

I was born and live in 50K people town in northern Czechland. I like it and never felt the desire to live elsewhere. It is safe and sane. Of course, politics sucks and yada yada but that's the case pretty much everywhere.

My wife is Polish. It's not just that he family is there, but I also love Poland as a country. Love the people, the food, the culture, the language. I consider it my second home.
Just say your wife is hot, that’s ok, Poles are used to it.

I live in Paris, so….

Just moving houses finally leaving a center of a big concrete jungle to a way more relaxed apartment next to a forest, can't wait.
I'm far from hating my life here but I plan to move my family to join my sisters in New Jersey by the end of the decade.
I love that I can leave my front door for a run and be in the middle of nowhere within a few minutes. From my front door to my kayak on the water is 7 mins. Having nature close-by is such a mental health boost. I could never go back to the city.
