This is a bad habit of mine, but most of the time that I'm playing something, I've got a movie, youtube video, podcast, or music playing as well.

I'm sure this has absolutely ruined my attention span, but I'm still able to read a book for hours on end so I'm not a lost cause I guess.

Only if I can zone out the gameplay, like a Dynasty Warrior-like game, for example.

Other than that? I like immersing myself in the game, focusing on the sounds is essential for me.

Don't do it often. I watched TGA while playing NMS but I can't really do it for anything that requires concentration on either the show or game.

Sometimes., completely depends on the game. If it's a new game or something I want to pay attention to, definitely not. But there was one time in my life I was grinding PSO for months on end and watching TV/listening to music or a podcast were the only things that kept my interest.

If it's a game that doesn't need much brain power I have other videos playing. Whether that be youtube or streaming.

On the flip side if it's a movie or something I want to focus on I'll pause it if I'm in a COD game or something and resume it during the lobby.

No, it's Dragon Quest or Pokémon, those games are played on mute so I rather hear background noise from home or street lol

I do get the whole podcast/music while playing games thing, particularly if you're playing something grindy and need some help getting through some slower sections. What I don't understand is how or why some people will watch TV while playing games. Are they just playing really boring games or what?

Depends. Usually I give the game my full attention, but sometimes I just wanna sit and grind old JRPGs and the like, while listening to music or a youtube video.

Grinding random encounters is kinda unpopular these days, but it's almost therapeutic for me.

Also for any live service game where I'm playing a lot, I almost always listen to my own music after a while, no matter how good the game OST is.

I even used to have youtube pip up while playing, but recently youtube appears to have removed the pip function for some reason.

Not really.
I want to hear the music/audio design of the game.
However, I do enjoy listening to Metal while grinding in the late game of jrpgs.
Farming metal slimes in DQ8 with Trivium playing was pretty cool way back lol.
