Marvel Studios announced today that production has begun on “Doctor Strange,” starring Benedict Cumberbatch (“Black Mass,” “The Imitation Game”), Chiwetel Ejiofor (“12 Years a Slave,” “The Martian”), Rachel McAdams (“Southpaw,” “Sherlock Holmes”) and Michael Stuhlbarg (“Steve Jobs,” “A Serious Man”) with Mads Mikkelsen (“Clash of the Titans,” “Casino Royale”) and Academy Award® winner Tilda Swinton (“Michael Clayton,” “The Grand Budapest Hotel”). The film, which opens in U.S. theaters on November 4, 2016, is directed by Scott Derrickson (“Sinister,” “The Exorcism of Emily Rose”). The film will be shot in several locations around the world, including London, New York, Hong Kong and Kathmandu, Nepal.

Benedict is great but if Joaquin Phoenix was the lead as originally planned then this would have shot up to being the best.

both him and oscar isaac were apparently approached. i know people shit on him a lot here but i think i would have preferred depp over benedict for this one easily. channeling his ninth gate look.

he's a good actor but i liked almost all of the other candidates more.

I know they're sticking strictly with film credits, but it's funny that Rachel McAdams is credited for Sherlock Holmes, but Cumberbatch isn't credited for Sherlock - which is easily what he's most known for.

Honestly the one thing I want from this film is magic effects close to what Ditko originally envisioned. It'd be such a cool and different look from any magic we've seen on screen.

Yeah he's confirmed to play Baron Mordo, while Swinton is playing The Ancient One. The only question mark is Mikkelsen, but people have speculated that he'd play Dormammu.
