Does ‘The Community’ get better?

I’m five episodes in on season one and so far it hasn’t been very funny and the stories are pretty boring. Is season one just bad or is this it?

Allison Brie seems to be the only highlight of the show so far.

I started it recently and I'm now about 20 episodes in. It didn't grab me at first either but I'm now enjoying it.

Depends why you are not enjoying. For my taste, it got better. I found the first episodes more sugary than the rest.

Great show. My favorites episodes are the Drug theater and the D&D session. I laugh from start to finish. Pierce Hawthorne is hilarious.

Is not for everyone. The show has its moments.

At least it can make you laugh without stupid fake absurd annoying background laughs.

I am biased as Community (not 'the' community) is my favorite show ever, but still...

Community is a show that rewards you for investing in it. It's definitely more of a niche show, not for everyone, but if you stick with it, get to know the characters and what it's trying to do, it's definitely worth it. It's not a show that necessarily wants to make you laugh out loud all the time, although it has a lot of hilarious episodes, but the study group, their friendships, relationships, trials and adventures are what form the core of the show.

Season 1 is when the show was figuring out what it wanted to be, some things were pushed by the studio (Britta / Jeff being the focus for example), I'd say Season 2 and 3 is where the show was at its very best and had the biggest budget. (Remedial Chaos Theory, Advances Dungeons And Dragons and the paint ball episodes are really amazing)

Season 4 was made without the original creator, and has some flaws (and Chevy Chase left), but some great episodes in there too (the Jim Rash directed puppet episode).

Season 5 brought the creator back and is really solid, and emotional with Donald Glover leaving. Episodes like the Ass Crack Bandit are some of the best in the series.

Season 6 was when the show moved to Yahoo, and although it was a bit different, it was still hilarious and experimental. Keith David and Paget Brewster were really solid additions to the cast and the last episode, if you watched the whole thing, will make you cry.

So yeah, I'd say stick with it, but only if by the end of Season 1 you somewhat care about the characters and are invested in them as a group. If not, the show is not for you.

I enjoyed it a lot until actors started leaving. Just stopped watching during one of the last seasons since it got so boring.

The show doesn't become itself until the Halloween episode in season 1. It truly hits it's stride in season 2 and jumps the shark in season 4, reclaiming quality in season 6.

Season 2 and 3 are the best seasons of any sitcom, though.

I mean, it’s not the best show ever, but I’ve been enjoying season 1. Episodes are hit and miss but the characters are endearing. And of course, Brie is so freakin hot.

Season 5 really has its moments, even if it tails of in the back-half. Ass-crack bandit episode is fucking genius and makes the season by itself.

Its also funny seeing how much stuff gets reused in Rick and Morty, guess Dan Harmon's hatred for heist movies still burns brightly LOL

Not really. I watched it several years ago and while there are some highlights, I was disappointed.

Watch the paintball episode and stop.

Like nearly every other comedy, the early first season is too grounded compared to how wacky it gets in later seasons. Once you get to about the first paintball episode, you finally get an idea about the kind of crazy the show gets into.

Plus Brie and Jacobs are probably the most attractive duo ever put on television. Although I gotta say that Brie/Gilpin is pretty great too.

I liked it for the most part, but I don't think it was anywhere near as funny or rewatchable as say Parks & Rec. With that show you kind of get invested in the characters, whereas with Community it's just a lot of gags and flippant lines and you never really get drawn into caring about anyone. I mean with P&R I can name a lot of the main characters (Leslie, Ron, Tom , April, Andy) whereas with Community I honestly couldn't name any of the names of the main characters, save Annie, and that's because of 'Adderall Annie' and 'Annies Tits' being lines from it. Same deal with Rik & Morty, I know who the lead characters are but fucked if I know what the mom, dad & sister are called.

Season 1 is largely just getting to know the characters, it's not quite what Community is known for until the last few episodes. It's mostly just a standard sitcom. 2 and 3 are really where the show comes into its own in terms of pop culture and meta humour.

Then 4 was bad because they fired the creator, then brought him back for the later seasons which never quite hit the 1-3 peak.

First two seasons of community were pretty good and kept getting better. After that it started to spiral downward and eventually become a turd sandwich by the final season.

Season 2 and 3 are peak Community.

It starts out too bland for me too but if you aren’t having fun by the First paintball episode then I don’t m me what to tell you.

Maybe I’ll try out Goldbergs instead...

Goldbergs is comfort food but not always laugh out loud hilarious.

It's basically the same style of show as "Black-ish" and "Fresh Off the Boat" just the 1980s with a white Jewish family. Hayley Orrantia is pretty hot in that show too.

The first 3/4 series are great and then it fell off a cliff with series 5 and 6, I've still never made it through the entirety of 6.

Realistically it probably should have ended at 3.

I enjoy it, it's not the best show I've ever seen, but yeah, if you're not into it, that's cool too.

It's an odd show. A shame Chevy Chase had a falling out with the creators. He was fantastic. They all were. Like others said, it kind of becomes a parody of itself in Seasons 4 and 5, and 6 is just okay. But seasons 1-3 are great. It sucks when Donald Glover leaves

I finally finished all six seasons.
It was good overall, but I’d say seasons 1, 5 and 6 were the worst.

I don’t know why people rag on season 4, the casts all still intact, and they’re still students at that point.

Also it has some great episodes like when they become puppets.

Or the episode where they get trapped inside Pierces house.

Shame about how it ended up though, this probably was the darkest timeline.
