how did they do this? i saw this a long time ago here, and somebody explained it, but i don't remember how.

If that's the Japanese version where the player beats Emerald Weapon in about a minute, they used repeated Hero Drinks, which up all your stats, then just kept doing Ungarmax and mimiced it to kill him fast.

edit: i thought you couldn't even mime a limit break anyways

is it some combo of counter+quadra magic that's somehow performing a limit break as a counter 4 times? that's what it looks like anyways

IIRC you can mime a limit break.

edit: wait it can't be anything with quadra magic, because he does the limit like 6 times in a row, without any command inputs

You can mime your own limit break, but not someone else's

Yes, you can mime your own limit break.

Since I'm talking out of my ass, I'll go action by action for you:

Battle Starts

Cloud uses the W-Item command, to use two Hero Drinks (increases Power / Speed / Defense / Magic Power / Spirit / Luck) on Barret.

Barret uses the Ungarmax limit.

Emerald Weapon uses Emerald Shoot on Barret.

Game switches to show at least two mastered Mimic Materia equipped to Barret, connected to at least two mastered Command Counter Materia.

Barret uses Mimic, to do Ungarmax again multiple times via the Mastered Mimic + Command Counter Materia combos he has equipped.

I beat Emerald the first time with Lucky 7777, then a couple KotR. Nowhere near as quick as this, but it was right after the game came out.

Yeah, that was how it was done. The player equipped eight sets of command counter=mimic. When the battle started, Cloud used two hero drinks on Barret to boost his attack power and then Barret used his limit break. Emerald weapon counter attacks Barret which causes Barret to counter with mimic and since his last move was his limit break, that is what he counters with(He counters eight times since he has eight sets of counter=mimic). I have done the same thing, except with Cloud, using his Omni-slash limit break.

They're playing the International version, so they could have just duped Elixir to beat up on Magic Pots.

if i remember right i thought magic pots gave a lot of experience but not all that much ap while those red balls gave a ton of ap

I think the Magic Pots gave about 1000 AP and were more common than Movers, but Movers do give more..but it sure isn't bad to kill Magic Pots too.

IIRC, you didn't even have to use Elixir on Magic Pots in the original Japanese version (and the W-Item bug didn't dupe items, either).

Almost makes you wonder if the dupe trick was intentional..

It's actually very easy to master materia and not have to spend any time playing. If you have a turbo fire controller, you can put yourself in an endless cycle of auto-battles. There's a certain spot on the world map for this. You get 200 ap per battle, but with the 3x ap sword, that's 600 ap. There's also the sunken sub which is an even better spot.
