I used to know a few back in the day but I'll be damned if I need to pay 25$ US for a single font.

Anyone, I am looking for the font Gothic Bank Light, it's a commercial one though, but I know I dowloaded it along with a lot of others a year back on this great site, but it seems to have disappeared or something.

DaFont.com :
DH Bank Gothic Light $32.00 AGFA/Monotype

What is it with selling fonts these days? Seriously, what the hell? I can't believe how money grubbing some people are.

Does anyone know where I can ILLEGALLY download some TOTALLY ILLEGAL commercial fonts for free?

Hell I even tried kazaa.

EDIT: 1001fonts.com : 0 results found.

Sorry but I really just need Gothic Bank Light for now.

1001freefonts.com, I think.

you won't get a real classic ones like Futura, Swiss, Square, helvetica, etc... but it has lots of fun types. And no, there isn't bank gothic family neither - but some of the techie fonts look pretty decent too.

That's a pretty good site, but it lists Gothic Bank as commercial and redirects me to a place where I can buy it.

But I guess I'll make due with what I can find.

Fonts have been for sale for decades, and in recent years, the selection of True Type knockoffs available for free has exploded. Is it so hard to believe people would like to profit for their work? Even if i offered something i created on my site for free, if it was popular enough, i might choose to begin selling it, at least to subsidize hosting.

Edit: Also Google "what the font". You may be able to find another commercial font that has knockoffs you can download for free.

But 31 dollars?

What exactly am I buying for 31$? The right to use their font? I don't need that right since I'm not going to do anything commercial, so what's the point?

I'm sorry, but the amount of work that went into those fonts is definitively no where near worth 31$ a pop.

You're incredibly dense. And anyway, beggars can't be choosers. So if you don't want to pay, just don't buy it, and quit complaining. Try making your own font then.

Dense? I'm dense for wanting to use a font for personal creative needs, hell I don't even have a credit card, how the fuck am I supposed to buy that font?

Jesus, I don't know how much money you make, but 31$ for me, anyway I look at it, is way too much for the TIME and TECHNOLOGY used to make some letters.

I could make some fonts right now, in the next HOUR and sell them for 31$.

I see font work as photoshoping the alphabet.

If it's so easy, then why not make the font you want.

I'm just saying, for some people, fonts are their business. It's a great product, since it's something we all use, and for certain projects, we all want. However, you don't *NEED* fonts. So I don't think you should really be bitching. It's not like food or something.

whats your AIM sn. I have a free font that is pretty similar.

Good fonts are ALOT of work though, if you find one you use alot, 31 bucks aint much.

This is what I see, some square letters done by a brush pen.

I would gladly do my own font instead of paying that sum, all I need is to find the program (which must cost 100,000$ if they're charging 31$ per font).

Maybe you live a life where money isn't a problem and you'd rather spend more than to think yourself as being "cheap" but I'm just being logical in my assessment that 31$ is too much to charge for the artistic value that went into slightly modifying the alphabet.

My AIM handle is: Serevok 5

EDIT: Miruyu, you edited your post and added some stuff. I can understand the demand/offer the fonts must have had and the reasons the people that created them jacked up the price. I agree that companies should pay to use other people's fonts, the fact is, I can't/won't pay for it, and I don't see how that makes me dense.

Funny how you decide whether ot not you need to right to use someone else's work. :D

Ever try your hand at making a font? Even making a simple handwritten one takes time to get it looking good and consistent, let alone worth buying. Here's a good HOWTO on good ol' chank.com that gives you the details: http://www.chank.com/howto/

What's this for anyways? Unless you're making a parody of something using that font, i don't see any real need to get it (obviously illegally). Just use a close knockoff.

I take it back, it didn't sound like you understood the whole business concept at the time. But yeah, if you won't pay for it, more power to you. I just mean to say that, since you're the one who wants a font, you simply can't demand it for free with absolute power. $31 for a font does sound like a lot, personally I would never buy it, I'd look for a better deal. But my point is, there's no point making a fuss out of it, since you're not solving any problems.
