Does anyone work at Whole Foods or knows someone that does?

Any good or bad stories about how its run?

I'm thinking about applying at a new location but don't want to leave my current job if it's gonna be worse.

I used to. And since I'm currently unemployed I might go back for a little till I get something else. Don't have any complaints. It takes a while to accumulate PTO but that's about it. Once you become full time and over 800 hours you get full health coverage for $5 a week which is great. Once you get gainsharing the pay can be surprisingly good. The discount is pretty good, %20. That can go up to %30 depending on your health. The healthier you are, the higher the discount (they have tests every 6 months).

The hours may not be for everyone though. Depending if you open or close. If you open you have to be there at 5:30am and if you close you'll be there till 10:30pm.

How do they test your health?

Don't they have part time shifts?

It's pretty standard health checks. Blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, and weight.

Yea, everyone starts off as part time until you get voted on by the other members of the department. Maybe it depends on the store, but they don't do 'mid shifts' very often, you either open or close. They make exceptions for people still in school though.

I used to work there. It's not a bad job as far as retail goes. The corporate culture is absolute garbage. The worst part of the job is learning to tune out the self-congratulatory and/or pseudoscience crap that comes and goes.

The pay is good. Starts at $10/hr, I believe, and if you have nice department / store heads then there are ample opportunities for advancement and pay raises. Most of the folks above me worked from a floor-level position in just a few years.

As far as hours...I think it varies based on department. I worked in customer service and we both had plenty of part-time workers and mostly mid shifts (not as many customers when the store opens or closes). But something like prepared foods was more stacked with full-time workers and mostly needed folks there early to set up or late to break down.

Reply or PM with any other questions you have.
