Dog Has Blood In Urine

I just lost my family puppy (11 months old) tonight. He got a fungal infection in his lungs that spread to his brain. Was having seizures all of a sudden and just pissed and shit himself. Fuck I don't even know how to process it but I just lost 2 dogs last year so this is starting to fuck with me.

I hope to god your dog gets better and is in no pain. Sounds like you are a god owner with the best interests of the dog in mind. Consider yourself lucky you got more than a year with your pupper!

That's really rough, man. It'd kill me if that happened to my dog so I can only imagine what you're going through. Never even heard of anything like that before let alone something taking down a pup so young.

The way you need to look at it is this - for all he only got 11 months, if you made those months good for him. In that alone he was lucky, luckier than many, luckier than he may have been and you should be glad you both had that opportunity and made each others time on this rock better while you could. Focus on the good and take care of yourself, man.

So I've noticed red spots when my dog urinates and it seems to be getting slightly worse.

A few things.

It's been happening for about a month.

Took her to vets about a week and a half ago. Urine test and ultrasound show no abnormalities.

Dog is behaving normally. She's extremely active and her appetite is very good.

Vet says next step is x-ray though nor sure why they didn't do that already. Me nor my family can afford it right now.

So I'm perplexed.

What is going on with her? She doesn't seem to be in any pain and like I said above is acting just as normal and healthy as always especially for her age. She's about 11 years btw and is a dachshund.

One other thing. She has lost a lot of weight. But her appetite is great. But it could be she's being fed better but the weight loss still has me concerned.
Your dog may eat something that may give the color of urine. For example: beets, carrots, these vegetables affect the color of urine. Have you changed your dog's food? Maybe the feed contains dyes. But it is better to try to contact a good clinic for diagnosis.
I wish you good luck.

So an update.

A few days ago my dad saw a lot of blood in her urine. He was up crying most of the night. He loves that dog, rightfully so.

We brought her back to another vet. He wanted $900 to start with full exams.

As you know, we're dirt poor. My dad is disabled on a low fixed income. I care for my dad almost full time and I don't have an income especially now.

Anyhow his VA social worker got him in contact with a place that helps people like my dad or at least she has connections.

So they got us hooked up and it appears we're going to be able to get the dog the full examination for free. They just ask for a donation which my dad is happily going to give.

The appointment is scheduled for Friday. Really glad his social worker knew someone.

How old are you, man?

Maybe it's time to help your old man and find a job.

I understand 400 is good money, but it's not that much money and you should have that value or more for emergencies...

If you guys are struggling and you're an apt man, then maybe it's time to get a job...

I assume the US minimun wage is around $2000 a month? I bet that would really help your family and mitigate situations like that...

My dog will have been in the vet for 3 weeks by Wednesday.

Anyways it turns out the blood in the urine was nothing serious but my dad decided to have this red lump she had on her chest removed.

For whatever reason, something happened or they botched the surgery as she kept bleeding from it after the operation.

It was pretty much a 1 or 2 inch hole in her chest.

She's been at the vet for almost exactly 3 weeks now. My father's social worker knows a woman from a charity organization who is helping pay the bills.

But I think it's really odd that she needs to be at a vet going on almost 3 weeks now. I'm not a vet so I dunno but I do know it's been making me sick and worried. I really hope they're treating her very well.

3 weeks? Can you go see her?
The vet is at the other end of town.

The doctor said she's doing fine. And they're very busy so they never remember to get back to people. Three weeks seems like an absurdly long time for this but I'm not a vet.

What happened is my father he wanted that big red lump removed from her chest. It was benign but not good looking.

What we thought would be a simple cosmetic surgery turned into a fiasco. They stitched her up but two days after, she was bleeding all over the place.

Long story short, we took her back and they mentioned that one of the problems was stitching was too tight added we the complication that she is a dachshund so the whole thing with having an elongated body, etc.

So they are supposedly fixing her up and it's been almost three weeks now. We check up every few days. If it were up to me I'd check up more frequently but my dad doesn't want to "nag" the doctor too much.

Last time we talked to the doc, which was last Wednesday, he said she should be good to go home in 2 to 3 days. Well it haa been 5 days now.

I called today and the doctor is busy. He'll probably forget to call me back but I'm hoping she is ready to take home by tomorrow.

Start a gofundme for your dog

Charity is helping.

But we heard from the doctor and she has a wound the size of a dime (his words) that he said is not healing and that they pretty much did everything that they could.

He asked as to call him again tomorrow night before they close for a further update.

My mother recently sent me a picture of a dog they had for a couple years now. The only thing she said was they had to put her down because they found a mass and she was bleeding out blood. When my cat had bladder stones, I paid close to $800 for their surgery and proceeded with the Urinary formula/wet food.

Pretty much. It was nothing serious.

But my dad wanted the lump on her chest removed and that's what is causing complications now. Vets botched up more than likely. Now she has a wound that is not healing.

stones in bladder likely. blood in urine would also point to the possibility of an infection. weight might be due to infection as it takes additional calories to fight off infection. you can treat with antibiotics but without the x-ray you will not treat the real issue.

I know all this because I just went through the exact situation with my pug but it was more serious because my pug had blockage when trying to urinate. 2 days before I took him to the hospital. he's all better now.

you gotta do the x-ray as it will cost you way more if left untreated.
