Dogs afraid of cats

Yep. I had a fat orange tabby that we found on the street and brought into the house in like 1984. Awesome cat. Like a cuter version of Morris. And he would come to you when you called him, every time you called him. Only cat I ever had that did that.

And he had absolutely no fucking tolerance for the puppy we found and brought home in '87. Cutest German Shepherd mutt ever. But the cat hated her fucking guts every day until his death like 19 years later.

No reason. All our animals were always treated with love, and all efforts made toward peaceful integration. Cat just hated the dog. If the cat was sleeping on the chair in kitchen, within like 3 feet of the doorway, then the dog didn't go in the kitchen. If the cat was sitting by the dog's bowl, the dog didn't eat until the cat moved on. If the dog got close, the cat would hiss. Too close, and the cat would rapid-fire swipe/bap/claw the dog's nose until she went away.

And every once in a rare while, the cat would act like it was turning a corner; sniffing the dog, walking near the dog (dog frozen in terror meanwhile), even once or twice actually rubbing up against the dog as if affectionately. The dog would lower her guard, bend down a little to sniff the cat, and the cat would lose his shit again, hiss, and take a swipe at the dog.

probably felt threatened that the dog would take all your love, what do you think?

My dog, German Shepherd/Rottweiler, was a little less than a year old when I scooped her up from East Detroit. Some family had claimed to had just gotten a pit bull and the pit bull kept beating the shit out of her so they wanted to off load my dog.

When I got her, her eye was all bloodied and red, and she had bite marks all over her fur. I paid them $50 and took my dog, Ruby, off their hands. Got her to a vet and sorta raised her back to being loved, etc. Now we're legiterally best friends.

It never sat well with me though that the pit bull was the asshole and they got rid of her for not being an asshole. Maybe they wanted a dog for self defense purposes, and she didn't make the cut? I just don't know.

EIther way, these cats are jerks and my heart really goes out to the dogs getting pounded on, especially the ones who could obliterate the cats yet decide not to. I couldnt even make it past 40 seconds into that video. Really got to me.

I get you completely bro, as I'm a huge animal lover too and my dog and cats are my second, third, and fourth kids. That being said, I think it's ok to have a laugh at a dog who's a little afraid of cats, not because they're actually afraid, but in my experience they're usually kind of holding back and acting afraid to make the cat feel comfortable. My girl Bella is a Shiba Inu/Lab/Boxer, and her two best friends are Nala and Mauer, my little feline girls. Bella acts like she's scared of them when they get feisty, but the truth is that all three of them sleep together with my daughter every night and they've all become sisters, there's nothing but love there and they're just playing. I'll be honest, I haven't watched the video in the OP yet as I'm trying not to wake up my daughter up right now, but if the situation is like I just described with my girls, then they may be just playing. Like I said though, haven't watched the video yet, just kind of popped into the thread to discuss more than watch.

Your girl is beautiful by the way, and I bet she's the best hugger. Dogs know how to hug in a way that just smelts the coldest of hearts.

You look like a real one. 😎

Yeah back when my ex lived here she had her two cats she brought with her. I bonded with one of em, Sneakers, as he was this black scaredy cat who actually got along very well with my dog after she quit running away.

The other cat was a bitch, straight up. Constantly swatting my dog, clawing furniture, knocking shit off the fridge, etc. Dont even remember its name, I hated it.

Yeah I get that. Some people just straight up don't raise their cats right. They're like anything else, they have to be loved with discipline as well. Mauer, the calico in those pictures, she used to be a bit of a bitch man. I found her on the side of the road starving, (she was three months old and under four pounds), and she didn't even have the strength to fight when I picked her up and took her to the vet, got her the shots and fed her and took her home. I mean she was a biggity biggity BITCH maynard! I tried to understand based on where she came from, but yeah it was hard to deal with. Over time though, she ended up becoming just the sweetest thing you can imagine. When we first got Bella, Mauer was awful to her, but she was just scared because Bella's so much bigger than her. I didn't let her bully Bella, and over time she realized she wasn't a threat and they learned to love each other.

Nala, the tabby in those pics? She has no fight or mean in her at all lol. I bring a moderate size dog home and she just immediately sleeps with her and starts kissing her ear, just way too goddamn sweet. They're inseparable now, but yeah cats, when not disciplined properly, can end up being shitty little cunts. Some cat owners think the way to have a cat is to just let them run the place, but I very much disagree with that. They're not dogs, and you can't treat em like dogs, but they don't run the house and they need to be taught that very early on.

I think it's more common than people realize. Most cats will display aggression / dominance towards dogs unless they were raised with dogs. If the dog isn't aggressive towards other animals, chances are it's gonna get dominated.

Couldn't watch it with sound but by looks alone I'd have intervened a lot.
Unacceptable for any animal in my house to not feel safe in their own space.

Every dog under 40kg is a cat that pretend to be a dog. (Ron swanson 2017)
I hear that a lot but I disagree.
I'd rather have my baller ass Jack Russell with me at all times, a dog very much inoffensive by size but very capable regarding brain and physique.
Mate has a Cane Corso and she tries to do the same but it's very hard to take her out and about, especially in a city. Even though not really permitted in most cities I'm able to have my pup off the leash 90% of the time and she waits patiently in front of stores she's not allowed to enter, doesn't cross any roads on her own accord and doesn't bark or run at other dogs, only shows interest until I allow her to engage.
Even if the big dog displayed the same mannerisms it would be unacceptable to let him roam free.

Depends on what you want from your dog, I don't want to leave mine home alone and she doesn't need to protect me or my belongings, so her size is a lot more convenient.

Pretty much this. And cats are bully if the dog doesn't bite back.

When I was in college one of my buddies had a couple of cats and a Rottweiler, German Shepherd something mix. He later got a second dog at the pound, Idk what it was, but looked like a terrier mix? I actually just think it was a mutt and much smaller than the first dog. Anyways, one of the cats was chill, but the other cat was always bullying the German Shepherd around. All I remember was the bully cat never fucked with the 2nd dog my buddy got. When I asked him why he said the dog fought it and bit it a couple of times. I presume the cat tried to bully and claw it and the mutt wasn't having it. The old saying of the best way to deal with a bully is to punch it in the mouth is true for animals too, I guess.

Inbreeding for multiple generations has caused most dogs to be extremely submissive.

I know the quote and wasn't taking it necessarily as your opinion, I still hear 'thats not a real dog!' a lot. Then I ask them where their dog is - always at home. Not what I want for my dog to experience.
(Different discussion: I meet their dog and they're always a bit shit, weird quirks, tendence to run away, overly aggressive)

dogs are the real pussies.

cats will fuck you or any animal up. they are bold brave little things. they'll take on a bear, shark, croc....a dog is nothing to them. they will fuck a dog up real good.

If one of my cats is blocking the path to where my dog wants to go, no matter how easy it is to go around, the dog will whine and chirp at him until one of us goes to rescue him from the sleeping dragon.

What kind of monster puts shoes on dogs.
One that goes hiking with her and hates to see her hurt her paw on sharp sticks and branches on the ground from the thunderstorm the night before? I'd buy just about anything to keep her safe and happy, don't give a shit what people think about it. When you have to pull a wood shard out of your dog's paw while she's screaming and clean her wound afterwards while trying to calm her down, you may realize that footwear can actually be pretty helpful for them too.

Absolutely beautiful dog.

Cheers dude, he's a testament to the breed, staffies are an awesome breed, dont think id have another breed, he's soft as shit tbh, doesnt bark, responds to pure hand signals when out, doesnt chew anything, doesnt steal food, doesnt even grab food, you have to place it in his mouth, before he'll take it.
He is treated like a baby tho, but thats what you get a dog for in my eyes, we even pay someone to sit with him, whilst we're at work (and clean)

A serious cat swipe maybe scars a dog, a serious dog bite kills a cat. Chances are humans will be much harder on the dog than on the cat on the topic of using violence.

Pretty much, to people it’s just fascinating to see the opposite outcome of what you’d expect. Dogs afraid of cats. In the natural order it’s almost always the other way around and for good reason.

whenever stuff like this happened at my parents I’d usually root for the cat. (my old meezer Jaeger would constantly get harassed by our...um...I’m not entirely sure what breed chewy was. Some kind of Yorker chihuahua mix but he was super aggressive. One day Jaeger finally had enough of that little shit, got off his fat ass and uno reversed chewy. Chewy learned to fear the absolute unit that day.)

I got scratched pretty badly by a cat earlier in the week, because I tried to retrieve my hat that he was sitting on. My arm was dripping a little blood even. Some cats shouldnt be messed with.

Makes me sick how people are laughing in the videos. Dog is terrified as cat swipes claws into its face
Fuck these owners and their jerk ass felines.

I like dogs and cats, but dogs aren’t predators cats are. So by default cats are generally going to be fearless with dogs, they know one nose swipe and they’re done. Most family dogs are pussies and that’s ok.

I've experienced similar cases: the cat mistreats the dog until it can't take it anymore and one day the poor thing just snaps. Best case scenario the cat learns its place, worst case scenario the cat dies.

Most dogs i knew have been afraid of cats.
They are only chasing after them when the cat runs. But if the cat doesnt back aways and instead moves the paw/scratches dogs nose the real pussy shows quickly.

What kind of monster puts shoes on dogs.
Try walking a dog at -20°C. The paws start sicking to the ground and it hurts the dog.
