Doing shrooms for the first time.

Have fun laughing!

Some tips:

- If anyone starts feeling bad/anxious, change something immediately. Be it the music, lights, or room you're in f.e., in my experience such changes help in getting back into a positive flow.

- If you plan on smoking weed while under the influence of the shrooms make sure you roll your joints upfront.

Or use a bong

Man looking in the mirror is such a trip, if you look at your own eyes they start swirling and doing all kinds of crazy shit, why do they tell you not to look in the mirror? Never heard of that before.

Looking in the mirror isn't recommended on psychedelics because you can hypnotise yourself.
I've still done it a couple times but it always was creepy. One time the me on the other side of the mirror started to look really devious and grew some devil horns out of his forehead.

I'm curious about shrooms, but I'm also afraid due to my history with panic attacks. I've been handling weed just fine though, sometimes I can feel the panic coming, but meditating really paid off when it comes to controlling my mind. One day I'll give a try.

A Panic attack is a panic attack. Can be just as unpleasent on weed as on shrooms. Difference with shrooms is how much your perception of time changes. A trip literally can feel like a life time or eternity and you know it's pretty unpleasent to have anxiety for what feels like weeks, months or longer. So in your case should you ever do it, only do it with an experienced tripsitter who can help you get back in the right mood.
The one and only time when i had a bad trip on shrooms was during a period in my life where i was suffering from panic attacks and depression.

Make sure you have a bottle of water (buying one mid trip can be harder than you think, money can look too big or too small). Orange juice or grapefruit juice beforehand will enhance the effects. I always need a safe space to go back to, and the only time I started going near a bad trip was when I wasn't close enough to home and had to pee real bad. I had an almost existential crisis when I realized I'd left my zipper down, and then like I'd taken the world off my shoulders when I zipped up. That's one of the few things that sticks with me, how we approach the scope of our problems in life can be pretty easily skewed. Time dialation is super crazy, try your best to avoid looking at a clock and be amazed how the week you just spent in the woods was only an hour and a half. Be outside for the most part, watch plants grow and watch the paint on buildings age. My first time I was up on a hill looking down at the city, and the next time I looked it was from 90 degrees a different way like some Sim City 2000 shit. Have a good time.

shrooms in mild doses (1-3gs) are mad chill
but shrooms in upper doses are very different in my experience, did 5+gs one time.... never again (was a good time after a while but ego death can be v. scary if ur not ready for it)

Talking about time dialation and ego death. During one trip i was sitting outside on a field with two of my best friends and we were tripping balls to the max. Nobody remembered who he himself or the others were. All i knew was what shoes are. One friend remembered what grass is and the other one remembered what a ball is or something like that. So we remembered each other in an endless loop what these three things are so we don't forget the very last things aswell while laughing our asses off because it was so absurd. Then we thought we were always there and trapped in eternity because it felt like we were setting there since forever already and during all these months or whatever the sun on the sky didn't move one bit. I tried to check on my watch to see if time is still moving but i couldn't make any sense of the watch hands. What brought us back to reality eventualy was my friends girlfriend when she arrived. She had to take care of us like three babbling babies for the rest of the trip.

That seems like sound advice. I'll stick with weed for now though :P

Peeing while high of shrooms or LSD is a whole new adventure haha.

I have never tripped because you have no idea what is going to happen. Having said that it makes you see life in a complete different light and that is intersecting to me. Perhaps if I make it to 80 I'll just say fuck it and trip old saggy balls.

My main memories of taking shrooms include a lot of laughing, vision that resembled an out of focus photograph with colour saturation turned way up, and watching my legs run away from me which was hilarious.

The toilet is pretty low to the ground, especially when you are feeling 5 feet taller and your hands suddenly feel huge. Enclosed spaces in general just have a completely different feeling to them.

Reading through this thread has been great. Having more knowledge about others experiences and what to expect from the trip really takes the unknown scary factor out. I can't wait for Saturday! My friends keep counting down the days.

We've got a lot of ideas and things prepared such as movies, music, and snacks but it'll be interesting to see how it actually goes. I'll make sure to report back on Sunday to let everyone know how it went.

Just imagine all the rules we live by, all the petty things people get into just become so absurd you just laugh at it, I suppose it's cliched but it's like the Matrix where you are unplugged from all the bullshit we live with. Then tou see the world like a child does, but it's more intense and you go through these different stages, I think when I get some time I'm going to type out one of my trips.

Man I remember feeling like a liquid on my friends couch, melting into the fabric and when I looked up at my friend, he was a liquid too. I was laughing so much and kept thinking I was pissing myself but couldn't find any wet spots on my pants and was like where the fuck does this liquid keep coming from lol, good times.

Exactly! It's cliched perhaps but I have the same feeling about it.

I'll never forget watching Planet Earth while tripping and seeing whales swim thousands of miles just to be able to eat f.e., all the petty things I could worry about in regular life seemed absolutely bonkers. (might be a tip OP, if you wanna watch something on TV, make sure it's a BBC nature doc haha!)

That feeling always fades away for me though the longer it has been since I tripped, regular life just catches up again.

Always made me feel somewhere between drunk and high. Never felt out of control or anything, and never had any serious hallucinations other than some color changes and slight perspective changes. The first time my mind had a hard time figuring out what I was feeling so that uncertainty was a little scary, but you'll be able to grasp that after a little bit and relax. Definitely try to get outside for a bit, and try taking a shower.

Everyone should experience at least one psychedelic trip in their lifetime. It will open all sorts of doors and windows in your mind and consciousness.

Have fun! Don't worry about the trip beforehand and don't build any expectations.

There are such cases. The syndrome is known as HPPD.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hallucinogen_persisting_perception_disorder

One particularly sad case I know of (we both posted on another forum) was this guy who got forced to take a ridiculously strong hit of acid by his "friends" when aged 14. It completely scrambled his brain and he had persistent visual and cognitive hallucinations ever since. He ended up addicted to heroin which he took to make the hallucinations go away. Then he got addicted to speed so he could get things done while high on heroin. And then he had a massive paranoid psychotic breakdown and had be be sectioned. I think he's off the drugs and slowly killing himself with booze these days :( :( :(

That is by far the most extreme example I've ever heard of. It was a massive dose and a still-growing brain. While I wouldn't recommend hallucinogens to a teenager, millions of them take them and make it to adulthood with no ill effects.

There is no such thing as a risk-free drug, but assuming you do things sensibly, the chances of a single psylocibin trip permanently affecting your brain are vanishingly small.

I ummed and ahhed about posting this, because now that you know the condition exists, you might worry about it while tripping. But I think it's important to do these things fully informed. Remember that there are hundreds of millions-to-one chances that you live through without a thought. Walk under some scaffolding? Cross the road? Go swimming? Eat seafood? All orders of magnitude more dangerous than eating a handful of shrooms. You'll be fine, and you should make sure all your co-trippers know to remind each other of that.

I appreciate you ultimately deciding to share it. And yeah you make a good point about how frequently we do things without even thinking about it that are extremely dangerous. I mean, even just with weed since it speeds up your heart, that can trigger a heart attack, yet I smoke/eat it with almost careless abandon. Last year my HDTV stopped working and I taught myself how to use a soldering iron to fix it, at any point in time something could have exploded in my face or the fumes could have killed me or when I turned it on if I had connected something incorrectly, it could have blown up. I replaced a battery in my friend's iPhone and it could have exploded.

I feel like at some point in my life I will try them, even a micro dose, my curiosity is much too strong. I just have no idea where to get them. Or how much they cost, actually. Are they expensive? I don't think anyone in this thread has mentioned prices.

Bought lots of shrooms in 2008 did them by myself; I don't think I ever recovered from it. Only telling you guys because my sister wanted to do them this week and I gave her the same "warning"; but then again I might just be looking for justifications. I really do feel like that was the turning point; all my stuff went to shit after a couple of bad trips, never even began to recover from them 8 years later.

If you don't mind me asking, what exactly do you mean by you've never/will never recover from it? Do you mean like it was a really intense trip and you can't get over the things you experienced, or do you mean like your brain is kinda wonked now and you're on like a perpetual trip? Either way I'm sorry to hear about your experience and I hope you're eventually able to be free from it.

Little piece of advice: don't plan for too many things. This can become a stress factor, especially if you push each other to try out new things constantly. It's your first trip so this will blow your mind even without special activities. The most mundane everyday things can become super interesting on shrooms. On my first trip me and my friend were crying tears of joy because the dirt on his carpet looked so beautiful to us. It had unbelievable depth and colors. In his bathroom tiles i saw a thousand tiny busy people building skyscrapers. One time when we tripped in the woods we got obsessed over a piece of rotten wood because it looked like it was made of solid gold. Just a few examples.

Probably one of my favorite drugs. Done them quite a bit at varying amounts (least 8th, most 1/4)

My first time I did it by myself. I've read so many times not to trip by yourself but I've always found it to be the perfect situation for me. No one else to affect you in anyway. Do what you want.

Haven't touched them in years because the last time I had a bad trip and yea. That's somethig that will put you off mushrooms for a while.

Have friends that swear by getting a decent buzz going with some beer and than taking them. The alcohol makes you happy/giddy which is a great frame of mind for taking mushrooms.

Worse comes to worse it doesn't last forever. Sucks you have to tuff it out if things go sideways but just remember it isnt permanent.

Done shrooms like 100 or so times. Only bad trip I had was the first time. I think its because I wasnt expecting to get so fucked up on it. Plus some bad shit was going on in my life at the time. I think if you are generally in a good mood and there are no big events going on in your life you should be fine.

I found that making tea was the best for me. Not eating them skipped the whole gut rot feeling you get. That sick feeling you get before the high kicks in sometimes might trigger some negativity. If you eat them and you start to feel sick, just remember thats normal and it will go away. I recommend making tea and doing them on a full stomach.

Realize that you are in it for the ride when you do it. At least give yourself 8 hours of time before you calm down. Nothing worse than not wanting to be high and still not even peaking yet. So I reccommend doing them earlier on and not late at night.

Outdoors is the best but you dont want to be in a public space. Being around sober strangers might not go well. I recommend you take a little hike if possible and be isolated in nature. I always found those were the best times on shrooms. Being in a tight closed space when peaking can be asking for bad news until you are more familiar with shrooms.

If you do them inside, i'd make sure you do a nice clean up beforehand.

Just try and be excited about it. Being nervous are worried about it before taking it isnt going to do you any favors.

If you insist on consuming visual media (television or movies), please keep it light!

Avoid anything with freaky creatures or a depressing plot - this applies to both animated and live action stuff.

Paprika, for example, is brilliant when you're smoking weed, but you're probably in for a bad time on psychedelics.

On the other side of the coin, something along the lines of Bob's Burgers (or your comedy of choice) is perfect.

If you're someone who generally likes animated stuff, I would really recommend going that route. It meshes extremely well with psychedelics. (Live action stuff can be great too - it really comes down to personal preference.)

Can you describe a bit what it's like/how it's different? I'm super curious but never had the opportunity to, as much as I think I'd like to.
My experience was during the comedown (shrooms and LSD have incredibly pleasant and mellow comedowns), and it was like everything was magnified a thousand fold. It was with my fiance (now wife) and it's hard to describe how overwhelming the feeling of joy and love was.

It felt like we were completely connected, even more so than we normally are during sex. Your senses are in overdrive, and as a result, I was incredibly sensitive. I came very quickly, but it was such that I could just keep going even after that. We ended up having sex for what felt like an eternity (in reality, about two hours), and it was honestly the most pleasant experience that I've ever had.

Looking to repeat it this summer for our anniversary.

The first time I did shrooms, me and a few friends walked to the nearest shopping center around two miles away, and my friend almost freaked the fuck out when he saw people's faces. He said they looked contorted, their features were overly exaggerated, and that everyone repulsed him. He had to go and sit down away from everyone. Lol.

It's probably not the best idea to trip alone but i've done it a couple times and those trips were very special. Having no distractions from others you can dive in so deep. You're less likely to have a happy trip with lots of laughing and joy but the feeling of spiritual awakening and profound religious experiences are something else. This was the only time in my life that i considered believing in god afterwards. Still remained atheist tho in the end. As real as shrooms feel, in the end it's just your brain chems having a party.

I know I'm late on input here, but I think 3 grams is a lot for a first time. I would do maybe half that, wait 45 and then redose if necessary. Good rule of thumb for shrooms around my area is 45 minutes to kick and a 4 hour high. Would recommend some outdoor walking adventures for the first couple hours and then getting comfortable with some good tunes (and headphones if possible) is a great way to level off at the end.

Also, these are 2 absolutely great albums to experience on shrooms

Don't have bad trips then? You should always be on a clear positive mindset when doing any drug.

The bathroom is always the weirdest part of all the trips i've been on. The room always looks like i'm looking through a super wide angle lens.

Just sit back, relax, turn out the lights, put on some headphones, and search youtube for this cool, trippy vid called "Begotten" and you'll be on your way to chillsville, population: you.

they didn't "go away" they crawled into your nostrils
Good. That just means that my partner in crime, Gradybug the ladybug, is with me forever.

I only knew him for 17 seconds, but it was 17 seconds of magical moments and outlandish exploits.

Shrooms are good, LSD has a smaller barrier to entry, I think people should try shrooms first though. I recommend both for different reasons - think of shrooms as a driver. They will show you the things that you should fix up in your life. Once you fix those things, try LSD a year later - in that case, you will be the driver. You will have more control of your trip and it will show you your next steps. The first is a step to improve your foundation, the second is a step to break some new ground in your life.

Shrooms are you v1.1, LSD is v2.0. You should probably get v1.1 out the door first, v2.0 is better for it.

Depending where in the world you live you can go outside and start picking them if you know where to look and what to look for. Seriously though I wouldn't recommend it unless you go with an experienced mushroom picker and forager as there are several varieties of wild mushrooms that will kill you dead.

You mean they don't look like this?

Now that I've finally had time to reflect, I would describe my trip as a spiritual experience which not only helped me better understand myself but gave me greater understanding and insight about the universe.

The experience was very positive and special for me. Glad I had the opportunity to try shrooms but not sure I'll ever want to do them again. I thank everyone here for sharing advice. The trip started to kick in after 30 mins and lasted a whole 3 hours. Would have been nice if it went on for the 6 hours people mentioned.

In my experience, shrooms don't generally last for 6 hours unless I've done a *lot* at once (like I accidentally did my first time). If you want a lengthy experience, I recommend LSD.

3 hours is good. Id say it takes me about 8 hours from doing them until I feel i am totally back to normal. Id love to hear details.
