Donkey Konga 2 Reviewed on IGN

I pre-ordered it today... I hope it's not as bad as all that... :-/

I don't know most of the songs on here, so I dont know what to expect.

Expect the worst. Seriously, Incubus's "Drive" is perhaps the only song I'd want to drum to on here. Matt makes a good point: who wants to be looking at CG monkeys and listening to Michael Stipe?

Does anyone know if the tracks on this are licensed? I can't imagine they'd spend the money, but...

If it's like the first one, the tracks are performed by sound-alike artists of varying accuracy, never by the original artists.

Song selection will make me stay far away from this. The first one didn't have many songs to write home about, but there were a few decent ones and the game was fun enough for me to grin and bear the rest. This, however, is just terrible.

I think I'm going to do the same thing I did with Donky Konga and Donky Kong Jungle Beat - go to Game Crazy, win the tournament, and get the game for free. Tournament is May 28th.

I'll still get it, but I just don't get why they got rid of the videogame music. That's WHY I got the first one. And considering the Smash Bros theme was in the European version of the first DKa, they didn't even need to do any work to put it into this one! Just... dumb!

:lol Good Charlotte, Incubus, "Losing my Religion" RIDICULOUS!

Also, some of the covers on the first version were absolutely unbearable - in particular the Supergrass ones (not that Supergrass are anything to write home about in the first place, but these were truly dire).

But seriously, is Nintendo trying to make Donkey Konga appeal exclusively to 11 year olds? If so, they're definitely on the right track. If they want the rest of us to play it, they're going to have to try.

By the way, you know what would be recognisable and simultaneously hilarious? Donkey Konga 80s edition - have classic NES themes and classic cheesy hits like "Safety Dance", "Take on Me", "If You Leave", "Don't You (Forget About Me)" and "It's My Life". +1 sale from this corner.

This was probably a response to all those idiots who complained about the first game having too great a variety of tunes. Instead, we get a cluster of things in all the same ranges.

Say what you will about the first Donkey Konga, but you have to admit that a man on the street would have a better chance of finding a tune or two he enjoyed in DK than he would in DK2.

Is there a song list somewhere? I have no problem with the lack of videogame music, but I hope it's not all current pop stuff....

EDIT: NM, found it, reposted here... can anyone ID who these songs are all from?

Habanera
The Minute Waltz
Donkey Konga 2 Theme
Trepak
Rock The Boat
Why Don't We Fall In Love
Hit 'Em Up Style
Full Moon
Send The Pain Below
Born Too Slow
High Roller
Predictable
The Anthem
Come Clean
Pieces
Drive
Wish You Were Here
No More Drama
Trouble
La Bamba
Boombastic
It's Been Awhile
Road Trip
Sidewalks
I Don't Want To Know (If You Don't Want Me)
Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye
Unpretty
Headstrong
U Don't Have to Call
Contact
All Star
Losing My Religion
Shiny Happy People

Doesn't look too bad EDIT: Scratch that... looks OK. I'd rather see a lot more classical stuff, but I'm not at all bothered by the absence of game tunes or the beginners'-style stuff from the original

That would rock.

I've got the original Donkey Konga - I got sick of it in about 2 days. Occassionally I'll get it out to have a round with my mum(!) when she visits - who loves it.

I couldn't believe how BASIC the graphics were on that game - I know graphics are not really needed but the 3-frame animated Donkey Kong Country characters are a joke. And it took about 30 minutes to discover that if you tap both drums at once it will register as a tap for either drum - so you can zip through the whole thing by just banging both drums instead of the appropriate one. Sloppy.

Overall I really thought I was going to love the game but I walked away going "meh".

And you can also hit any direction on the dance pad in DDR while still hitting the correct one, yet people still hit just the right one instead of just jumping on the pair. On that note, you could also just use the controller and hit buttons only (DDR and DOnkey Konga). But it's against the point. The point is to bongo it with the tunes, and have fun!

You people aren't hip. I'm excited by about a third of the songs off the Donkey Konga 2 list. And while I liked the Donkey Konga 1 songs far less than the 2 listing, the first game was fun no matter what song was playing.

I agree for the most part!

The list isn't too bad, I'm just glad they aren't doing a "Now That's What I Call Konga Music" kind of thing with some average songs that you hear all the time anyway... or ARE THEY!?

If it's as easy as the first one then I'm not touching it.

Did you even try the Street Mode on hard? There was some pretty challenging songs in there. Also the mode which required you to memorise each beat in every song! ;p (Not that I would have the patience to do this)

It's funny because I let a few of my friends try this game and while most enjoyed it, a select few had real difficulty in timing the beats and immediately said "this games sucks" when it was because they sucked ;p

You mean the "Jam" modes for the three difficulties?

Stupidest attempt to increase difficulty I've ever seen. Instead of actually making another level above Gorilla (which wasn't all that hard, for the most part), they just yanked the indicator sprites off of the barrels and called it a new mode.

Blech.

I'm sad to say that the song selection is most likely going to keep me away from this one. I could suffer through the selection in the original one, but just barely, and while this one seems to be straying away from the kid's songs, it still isn't doing it for me.

Didn't the JPN version have the Pikmin 2 theme, too?
