This seems to be a bit of old news but I don't know if it's been posted here or not. I imagine it has, but I figured I wouldn't be doing my duty to gamers everywhere if I didn't make sure everyone knew. If it's old news, just put the thread on lock down.

http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/6816/Doom-Movie-Casting-Update/

Rosamund Pike has signed on to star in Universal Pictures' upcoming video game adaptation "Doom." Pike will play a scientist opposite Karl Urban, who will play the leader of a special-ops team at the centre of the action-adventure picture. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson also is set to take a leading role.

If it wasn't directed by the guy that did Die Another Day, I may have held out hope. However, as it is, this is one Peoples Eyebrow away from the shit-house.

He just talked about this on The Daily Show last night. Apparently it's due in August.

They also allegedly changed the meaning of B.F.G. to something like Bio Feedback Gun or some bullshit. :lol

It's due out in six months and there's not a production still, news release, teaser, trailer, video clip, webisode, blog, poster or anything to show for it?

... Yeah, right.

Likely because it will suffer from the PG-13 effect. More like big fat ghay lolamirite...

Didn't the screenwriter post a bunch of info about the movie a few months back, and from what I could tell, it didn't resemble Doom at all any more.

If I recall correctly, it was no longer set on Mars. Might have been another planet or a moon of Jupiter or something along those lines, which isn't too major of a change. But, I believe the scientists are not working on a teleportation device that opens a portal to hell, but it's more like a virus that escapes the lab, and mutates the people. It sounded much more like a Resident Evil movie then Doom. Don't expect Cyberdemons or other creatures from hell. They're all going to be normal humans who get infected and become zombies and such.

This will be garbage and a disgrace to the Doom franchise. I've always pictured the character in Doom to be more like Hudson in Aliens. Just your average guy that goes off. Maybe the Rock as Master Chief or Duke Nukem.

Apparently it's R Rated as well.

And it's "wrapped" according to Duh Rock, who regardless of being the star of the movie apparently knows less about it than GAF aspiring Harry Knowless, Willco. :lol

Just watch tonight's rerun of yesterday's Daily Show if you're that interested.

From what I understand, Karl Urban is the "star" and The Rock has more of a cameo role as "The Sarge". Eitherway, this moive is headed towards the discount theaters very quickly. Released in August, on DVD in October.

People need to watch the Daily Show more.

Everything you are reading about it came straight from the Rock's mouth last night. The Rock IS the lead.

O, and the Rock said there will be the BFG in the movie.

You're joking, right? That's far from uncommon.

Uh, no, it's not common. This is not an independent film made with zero dollars. It's a Universal flick and it cost money, so not even having a website is uncommon. No industry releases for merchandising considering the name brand is uncommon. Not a single poster or teaser is uncommon. This is not some small outlet. This Universal, so - yes! - the lack of any promotion whatsoever is uncommon.

Hell! At least Uwe Boll's flicks have teasers, websites, etc. And those are made with blood money (my guess to how he secured funds).

However, imdb.com does state it's in post-production. Has to be one of the quietest wraps I've heard of.

Hey, I'm not arguing that it's going to suck, but you're completely wrong. There are bigger movies this summer for which the marketing hasn't even started yet (Michael Bay's next shitty movie, for instance).

If you're referring to The Island, there have already been on-the-set interviews and production stills released. So no, I'm not wrong.

I'm not talking about the absence of a trailer or a poster. I'm talking that the only things I've heard about Doom is that The Rock said it's done on The Daily Show and the screenwriter wrote a letter to the fans.

There have been set reports, actually...

It occurs to me that given that there's little chance of the movie not sucking, this argument isn't worth having.

I liked the scriptwriter's argument as to why it's still DOOM, even while blatantly agreeing that it shares little with the material's origins. Supposedly, the only real connection to the game will be a "first person viewpoint" sequence that takes place near the end of the movie. That might be wrong, though; I don't remember where I heard that one.

Oh, son of a bitch. >:|

First Person Imax Adventure!

Well that Karl Urban guy does bear a frightening resemblance to the Doom marine.

I hope it has gameplay footage interspersed throughout, just like my other favorite video game movie!

House of the Dead was done in a few weeks right? Right? It had to be! I'd still watch it over and over again if I could find the DVD.

After seeing The Rundown... I know Dwayne Johnson can act and I really think he needs to stay out of go nowhere roles such as this. I'm dissapointed he accepted the role.

COCKLES

being watched
Karl Urban .... John Grimm
Dhobi Oparei .... Destroyer
Ben Daniels .... Goat
Razaaq Adoti .... Duke
Richard Brake .... Portman
Al Weaver .... The Kid
Dexter Fletcher .... Pinky
Yao Chin .... Mac
Robert Russel .... Dr Carmack
Daniel York .... Lt. Hunegs
Ian Hughes .... Sandford Crosbie
Sara Houghton .... Dr. Jenna Willits
Blanka Jarosova .... Dr Hillary Tallman
Vladislav Dyntera .... Dr. Steve Willits
Petr Hnetkovsky .... Dr. Olsen

Dexter Fletcher from Press Gang and season 2 of GamesMaster. WTF?!

I find it quite funny that Rosalind Pike has to accept a paycheque in this like Sienna had to for RE2 - guess when the hollywood paycheque is big enough that classical RADA training goes out of the window. :lol

Honestly, yeah, he fits more into the action-comedy role than anything else IMO. Like Arnold in True Lies.

Actvision Europe recently went out to Prague to check on the filming. I don't think it's that quiet. Perhaps they're waiting to see the finished rushes before Universal decides on how they will promote it and with how much money.

On a related note, here's some recent news on the eternally in production MK Devastation movie...

Devastating Mortal Kombat news
Posted on Fri, 11-Feb-2005

Fling the joystick, press the power button off, and pull the dust-cover back over the mega drive, you can soon get your "Mortal Kombat" fix at theatres. Again.

After many a mixed-bag of rumours, Moviehole can confirm that filming on the third film, title "Mortal Kombat : Devastation", will begin in May.

Essentially skipping over the events of the second film, "Devastation" reunites the cast of the original - Christopher Lambert as Rayden, Linden Ashby as Johnny Cage, Robin Shou as Liu Kang, Chris Casamassa as Scorpion with Talisa Soto and Sandra Hess in talks to reprise their roles as Kitana and Sonya Blade, respectively - with the remaining parts being cast as we speak.

The film is being developed by Mink ["Into the Sun"] and Threshold Entertainment. The Asst.Producer is Neil James.

Game On.

They have to include Tony Jaa in some capacity.
