The International is an 11 day LAN event and for the time being the biggest prizepool tournament with over $24M. The prizepool is increased by buying cosmetics through the TI8 Battle Pass, 25% of the funds goes to the prizepool and the remaining 75% goes to Valve including next year's Pro Circuit season prizepools and hosting future events.

The format is four days of Bo2 roundrobin Group Stages. Each team plays 7 Bo2 matches.
One day off after the Group Stages.
The top 4 Group Stage teams in each group are seeded into the Main Event Upper Bracket (Bo3 double elimination)
The teams 5-8 are seeded into the Main Event Lower Bracket (Bo1 single elimination)
The bottom teams in each group are eliminated from the the Main Event.
The Main Event playoffs are all Bo3 except the Lower Bracket first round and the Grand Final which is a true Bo5 (no game advantages)
18 of the best teams in the world - 8 invited and 10 qualified from thousands of Open Qualifer teams.
I have ranked the teams here in terms of this season's Dota Pro Circuit points then by region, but unlike most other sporting events the best team is not necessarily the one that wins. Upsets occur all the time even for the best and most highly rated teams. Yearly winnings are dwarfed by the colossal prize pool which promises over $10M for first place.
I will make a revised team rankings after the Group Stages since a lot of team growth and meta development will occur during the Group Stages which show how well teams have trained during the last 2 months.

Time and Date TBD
This year the event has shifted to Vancouver (home of Areteezy) due to Key Arena renovations and a seemingly easier player visa process. Unlike past years every player has made it smoothly, except one idiot.
Work in progress
