Doug Bowser Retiring from Nintendo End of Year (31st Dec, 2025)

Nintendo has become a shit company after Iwata died. Reggie knew that and stopped bothering, retiring early to enjoy his life.
Doug Bowser is following suit. Smart move!

To put it with Reggies' words: If it's not fun* (*being the CEO of Nintendo of America, because Nintendo of Japan a) dictates everything anyway and you, as the CEO of Nintendo of Amercia, will never have any say in any major company decision ever and b) NOJ pricing and decision making has become worse than that of Playstation and XBox during their greediest moments) - WHY BOTHER?

Pretty sure NoA could make decisions on what games to localize. Which is why Europe got Xenoblade but it took a massive petition effort for it to release in America. Even then it was largely Gamestop that made the release possible.

Honestly this really doesn't matter. Most people had no idea who any leader of NoA was prior to Reggie, and since Bowser it's gone back to being that way. It's a marketing & distribution organization. It's a boring role at a boring office where it's all business. As it is most places. We'll simply go back to not knowing or caring who the leader of NoA is. Reggie was an anamoly, much like Iwata and Miyamoto. The very rare business executive people cared for/ knew about.

Bad take. What was good about his time there? You tell me, and I'll tell you what I didn't like.
He didn't add their IP to gamepass so you weren't able to leech off the rest of the industry to play them for a pittance, that what you didn't like?

In all seriousness he was very successful if you attribute NOA's success to the position he held over the time he held the role. He was in his position during the reign of the (soon to be) best selling console of all time AND he was at the helm during best selling console's release of all time.

He also could have been a stop gap as NOJ looked for a person with a "holistic entertainment industry" vision rather than just someone focused on games. What if ya boy Andrew W. left EA to steer the SS NOA ship?

Never mind...will be replaced by Devon Pritchard...but she will be president of NOA not the CEO.

Cool. Anyway, can you start lowering prices?

I don't have Gamepass, I think it's a terrible propostion.

I don't care about the company's success. I'm talking about my experience as a customer under his tenure. Jim Ryan was a very lucrative CEO for PlayStation. I think he was one of the worst things to ever happen to the brand.

Under Bowser, we got:
- NOA filing a lawsuit against Pocketpair, which has eviscerated Palworld's development with some of the most asnine patent trolling and abuse in modern history. The ridiculous patent seeking and litigation over some of the most basic gaming features has ramped up wildly and continues to this day.

- A great impression of Don Mattrick with the, "If you don't like the price of the Switch 2, we have a great product for you: 'The Nintendo Switch!'" dismissal. The attempt to normalize software priced at $80 was also done on his watch, lousy POS.

- The debut of game "keycards," which are neither fully physical nor fully digital, for a true "worst of both worlds" solution. It's essentially the format of planned obsolesence. You can say this was Nintendo and not NOA, but it happened on his watch and during his period at Nintendo, so I am blaming him as a part of that era.

- He also brought heavier edits to games for "cultural sensitivity" purposes, in contrast with Reggie's lighter approach, censoring them from the original versions for "modern" Western audiences.

- NOA ramping up DMCA takedowns for fan games/mods, including bans on non-commercial projects.

Yeah, as I said. Good riddance to bad rubbish.
