DPReview is closing down. This one hurts, had an account since Jan 1 2008, a great trove of photography and gear information. Any good alternatives?

Well that's sad. Their reviews were very detailed, but not too complex. And the forums could be very helpful.
That the post got over 1,000 comments in two hours shows just how popular it still is. I don’t see any reason why it should be shut down, at least not without trying for some sort of subscription first.
Though some of the forum members were absolute snobby jerks. I remember having a very long and nasty argument about AA batteries in cameras with one of them there.

There are some alternatives, like Imaging Resource, but lately I've defaulted to Youtube and sometimes adding "reddit" at the end of a search query... I'm currently using a Sony A7 IV and I found this guy on Youtube. His coverage and the comments are enough to form an opinion on lenses or whatever. I suppose every camera has its own content creator.

About fifteen years ago I spent like a couple of weeks there trying to decide which DSLR to buy.
I followed the site for a few years before losing interest in cameras (when smartphones basically replaced the point-and-shoot), but I used to still visit it from time to time.
End of an era, indeed.

Never came across this website despite having an amateur interest within photography. Turns out Amazon bought them and are now throttling them to death. Same with Wickr, they're going out of business too thanks to Amazon.

I do hope they reform under a different name.
Fuck Amazon they bought the site just to spam buy one n Amazon links in every corner. I assume now they’re mainstream they don’t need the traffic from the site.
