Dr. Mario 64 recomp is here

Is there any reason why we have more N64 recomp than PS1?

Probably because PS1 games emulate really well - See how good you can make MGS1 look with Duckstation.

N64 emulation on the other hand... still has the games looking like trash. Recomp lets them breathe.

What do you mean "trash"? Any N64 emulator can upscale games just like Duckstation. And they don't need perspective correction because that's already there, natively.

A more reasonable explanation is that a lot of PSX games have already been ported on PC. All Resident Evil games, WipEout, Final Fantasy 7, Metal Gear Solid, etc, all have official PC ports. Most of these ports already have very good mods. But N64 exclusives only get official releases on Nintendo consoles. And sure, you can still emulate them on PC but modding them this way is harder.

It would be great time for a new Dr Mario. Even a remake.

It is sad, Nintendo ran from it after the pandemic, and didn't acknowledge Dr Mario. But, it would be good to see it again.

besides what others have said, the main reason is the Mario 64 Decomp, that project made a lot of tools and documentation of how to decomp a N64 game, making it easier to decomp other N64 games. Take in mind that the Mario 64 decomp project took years, with a lot of people working on it, it was basically a professional decompilation project.

PS1 emulation is already near perfect.

most people wouldn't play the recomps because it's easier to just set up Duckstation, log into RetroAchievements, and basically have a near perfect PS1 alternative right there.

Everyone loves retro gaming decompilations and retro gaming recompilations, having given us The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask decompilation, the Star Fox 64 decompilation, the Sonic Unleashed Decompilation, the Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon decompilation and even the San Francisco Rush decompilation...but now lets talk about the Super Mario 64 decomp and Super Mario 64 PC port! Because the Ghostship Super Mario 64 PC port is here by the Ship of Harkinian team...Harbour Masters!

and this is hot on the heels of the Quest 64 static recompilation project...so its a good month to be a Nintendo 64 fan!
