Performance won't be an issue with a 980..Curious about this as well even though I don't really want to hear it -_-
I'm getting a 980 this week so maybe that will soften the blow.

Oh my God, I've gotten so fed up of the crashes. They always happen either during cutscenes or when I'm in the War Room. I also get a notification that the drivers have recovered from a crash so I tried doing a fresh install of the drivers. Nothing. Tried reinstalling Directx and VC. Nothing.
I've updated the game to the latest version, also didn't change anything. If anybody has any suggestions, I'd love to hear them. (This problem happens exclusively with DA:I, does not happen with any other game or app)
OK, so I finally fired this bad boy up. Immediately noticed the stuttering in cutscenes, then as soon as I had control it was a smooth 60fps.
What's the best way to smooth out the cutscenes? So much has been written I can't even remember the supposed fixes. Is one of them to disable mouse smoothing? I'm using a gamepad, but the mouse is still active. You disable it by taking it all the way to the right, if I recall?
Quoting myself here for anyone else starting out - setting the 'mouse smoothing' to the far right does seem to eradicate cutscene stutter.
So far, in fact, the game runs very nicely indeed without any other fixes.
Wow that's a weird fix
unfortunately I hate mouse smoothing lol
The slider is apparently backwards, so putting it to the right disables smoothing.
Anyone on an AMD system having problems with the recent patch+hotfix? I've been playing in offline mode to avoid the patch but if there's not going to be any other fixes until patch 3 I've been thinking about letting it update.
Anyone else tried using MFAA? My benchmarks give me a very small but consistent advantage when I turn it off in the NVidia control panel, but the edge aliasing looks way better to me when it's on (I only tried with 2x aliasing).
My fiancee has an r9 290 and has had no problems since the update.
Perfect, thank you!
...I think maybe I'll backup my game folder before I patch, just in case.
Yeah I guess I am not the only one all of a sudden getting hard locks. It happens at random times. It's definitely not temp related either. I played 100+ hours but randomly a few days ago it started happening. I wonder if it has to do with the patch.

Performance has been amzing since patch 2 hotfix and omega driver. I'm on HD 7870 Ghz edition. Getting 60 fps on most area & 50 fps in Skyhold on ultra texture & everything else on high.
What's this hard locks are you talking about?
I have my guess based on my experience, but can you elaborate?

I've an FX8350 and R9 270X, my gf is on FX6300 and R9 280, I'll post back here if we get really noticeable improvements. Already running Windows 8 (upgraded from 7 just for this game, lol) and the omega drivers.
This is on DirectX, btw. Mantle had stutter problems pre-patch so I never used it; I haven't tried it post-patch.
That's definitely caused by HBAO, it looks like shit in this game. Use SSAO or HBAO Full. I get that exact same thing when using HBAO. It flickers and looks terrible.
Game is running fine for me, no glitches on SLI 980's at 1440p.
Always above 60 maxed out, with no MSAA though.
I'm on the green team so no Mantle for me. SSAO and HBAO Full do the trick for me. I'm guessing HBAO uses lower resolution shadowing vs HBAO Full which leads to the flickering, and because of the way the grass is laid it it sort of forms a pattern. It seems pretty consistent with what I've read online about HBAO. They really should have implemented HBAO+, maybe we'll be able to force it through drivers some day.I had HBAO on also and was confused about the lines showing up in the grass - trying SSAO caused lines of another sort to appear on Leliana's face when a certain someone walked in on the meeting in the war room. I think I'll just disable it for now.
Edit - Hmm, the lines remain... maybe it's Mantle...?
Performance won't be an issue with a 980..
I meant as far as AO is concerned, the performance between HBAO and HBAO full is not worth mentionning (versus image quality), sorry for the confusion..i have one, its not a solid 60fps, also redclif brings tears to my eyes, drops to 40 fps.

The game will just randomly freeze up sometimes. Sometimes I can play for 30-40 mins, then it freezes. Other times it will freeze my computer after 5 mins. I don't get it.
It only started happening a couple of days ago since I played 90+ hours with no issues.
I have the same card and similar settings. Performance is solid using DirectX, but completely unplayable using Mantle. For example, I tested spinning the camera in a 360 in the Skyhold throne room. With DirectX, there was no stuttering. With Mantle, the stuttering was so bad that it took over 2 minutes to complete the 360.
I know everyone complains about Redcliffe framerate, and yes even on my 980 it drops a little bit there
But the point I'd like to make is that Redcliffe is just one small town in the game, and you're there for less than 5% of the entire time you play. I mean is it really a big fucking deal if you drop to the 50s or 40s for such a small part of the entire game? Cmon everyone
I think some people on GAF are way too picky and prone to hyperbole in cases like this. Like saying it's a dealbreaker even though you don't spend much time in that one location. That's silly!
Why does a game have to run at 60 fps for 100% of the time? So if it runs at 60 fps 98% of the time, that game is unplayable?? I don't understand.
I only saw two people comment on redcliffe in the last two pages and they didn't seem like rants...?

It hits people hard because up until that point the game is usually in ~60fps for most rigs. Then all of a sudden its WTF-mode. But you're right, its a tiny area that you don't spend much time in, so no big deal.
I get 60fps in redcliff using mantle. The moment i switch to direct x, it drops down to 40-50. There generally is abit more stuttering with mantle on though. There are occassional split second pauses when you roam the open world with mantle on. Doesnt bother me much- but its quite obvious

I'm totally the opposite. Mantle give me about 100% boost (yes, 2x fps) compared to DX11. Camera spinning is fine. Have you tried moving your mouse smoothing slider to 75% to the right?
What's your hardware? My girlfriend is just starting this game but she only has a modest GTX 760 and a stock i5 3570k. If the difference is still huge on weaker hardware then she should definitely upgrade to Windows 8.1.In Windows 7 I was getting 47, 48 FPS in a scene and in Windows 8.1 I'm getting 60-62 FPS in the scene. Same graphics driver. Same sound driver.

Anyone else having an issue where Origin doesn't log in? It keeps telling me that I need to take Origin online in order to login but it is online. 0_o
I'm using a 360 controller, so mouse smoothing isn't an issue. I tried changing it anyway, but it's still the same. To me it feels like a severe memory thrashing issue. (I have 4GB system RAM and 2GB video RAM.)
I've seen other people complain of split-second pauses with Mantle, but that's not what I'm experiencing at all. My pauses can often last several seconds, and the worst lasted nearly a minute.
