Dragon Age: Origins |OT| Letting The Fade fade out of memory

Sorry to double-post...

For those playing warriors, what are your favorite specializations and weapons focuses?

I feel really drawn to the 2H for warriors, especially since Alistair starts with high DEX, making him a good sword+shield guy. I guess I'm wondering if anybody has done dual-wielding warriors and if they like them or not. I just started a third character ( :lol ) and it's a human warrior... I guess I'm just wondering if I should stick with 2H again, or try dual-wielding as a warrior.

So far I've done a 2H warrior and a dual-wielding Rogue. Really enjoyed them both but I wonder if it's worth doing a dual-wielding warrior.

Planning on my party being Hero + Leliana + Alistair (tank) + Morrigan as usual :lol

My main is a dual wielder and I'm enjoying the heck out of him. Some of the dual wield skills lend themselves to combo-ing and dealing good DPS. I'm sure my DPS likely isn't as hefty as a 2H warrior but I like the look of my character dual wielding and some of the moves look brutal.:) Also made him a Berserker/Templar to boot.

I had Sten tanking (Shale wasn't enough fun just standing there and Alistair too whiny) and me as a dual hand warrior. I really liked some of the moves, although they probably could do more damage. Ended up with two awesome main hand swords.

Dalish elfs don't have a side story in the forest ?

they do and while it was an interesting story... it was a different tribe. My character had no direct link to anything that happened other than "hey we know your tribe" etc. Bit different to being a dwarf amidst all the political wrangling I imagine. I purposefully chose this one first for this reason, its a lot like playing as Link in that you start off in a little place and go off to see the big wide world where no one knows you and everythings new to you.

Ugh, this is really annoying. I notice I'm 2 trophies away from platinum. One, being reach level 20 rogue, and the other, "succeed 5 difficult persuasion attempts". This is however impossible for me to get, since I already have the "succeed 25 difficult persuasion attempts" trophy. It completely leapfrogged a trophy tier, does anyone know a fix to this?

I wanted to add that my first game was as an archer and the only other character I would ever manual control was Morrigan to cast certain spells - both ranged and both worked nicely. I don't know why people say archery is broken. the ranger skill is awesome for an archer by the way, summoning a bear or spider basically adds an extra party member who is surprisingly capable in combat.

However when I was forced to control other characters, it was bloody weird trying to use melee! do I mash the button? selecting certain abilities would make my character walk off somewhere and attempt something which seemed awfully woolly about whether it was going to work or not. I never felt comfortable and I certainly didn't feel like a sword wielding killing machine. any tips on this front?

Maybe if you delete all the game data and save data and start a new game after you're done with everything else.

And by the way, I'm around level 14 and it seems the game is getting annoyingly hard in a lot of random situations and I'm only playing through on Normal. I don't have terrible gear and for most characters I've been just using "Auto Level" because I couldn't be bothered to put that much thought into everybody. It seems that I just get my ass handed to me once in a while with seemingly no chance to survive... is that normal or should I not be expecting that every encounter that I run into when randomly playing through the game should be winnable at whatever level I happen to be at?

I pretty much gave up on
going down stairs in that abandoned building
in Denerim, for example.

Also the only way I seemed to get out of
the building with that assassin with all of the hidden guards
was to talk my way out of it. Same goes for
bringing the dragon blood to the ashes, trying to fight them on the spot in the cave ended with embarassing defeat
.

Eh, I didn't really run into that, except on my nightmare playthrough. Even then, after I got to level 7 with all my specialization classes, I had no problems whatsoever.

its sounds like you arent using strategy to deal with certain dangerous threats that have to be neutralised. for example in this case looks like mages are a prime culprit (this goes for mage, emissary and arcane horror) - you have to take out mages from the fight immediately before they mess you up (or have something like dispel magic or templar cleanse area if they hit you with something nasty like mortality)

a stealthed rogue can sneak up and kill a mage easily, your archer can use arrow of slaying to take them out, a mage could crushing prison them (or if you scout with a rogue, put a blizzard/inferno etc before even being detected)

also another thing thats fun is giving a rogue poison skill and combat/master stealth, make grenades (shock, fire, freeze etc) and use from stealth with high stealth rank means you dont even leave stealth and can wipe out enemies. I completed the game without a game over on normal, and one fight took me by surprise and this saved me from defeat after all my companions were wiped out at the start

Just finished getting the ashes for Arl Eamon. So glad that part is done with. It was getting to the point where I would save after every battle because of the frequency in which I was dying. Maybe I'll finally tackle some of those side quests I've been ignoring, just to see if I can earn some levels. I'm tired of having 1-2 party members go down in almost every battle : /

So, would doing sidequests be beneficial? Or is that done mostly for money?

It would be beneficial. Sidequests make up like 2/3's of the game anyway, and who would want to miss out on 2/3's of a game they payed hard money for (shit I ended in a preposition).

So, I got raped in the Bracillian(sp?) forest last night. I have no healer. At what point can I obtain a second mage to help heal(I have Morrigan doing DPS)? Or should I just restart the game as a mage?:lol

There is only one healer in the game and this is in the mage tower.
But like some already said in the thread you can finish the game without any healer if you play on normal.

Go to the circle of the magi to find a healer mage but as a precaution, don't take Morrigan with you. And dammit, Bioware, release the console patch already. I want to start my second char.

You can get another at the Circle of Magi, at Lake Calenhad. She's the best healer, too, since she already has the Spirit Healer specialization. You might be fine by teaching Morrigan Heal, but that depends on how desperately you need it. If your average battle takes a while you might still find yourself chugging potions like nobodies business. (You might want to revise your tactics (not the game's feature) if that's the case.)

After you
complete the broken circle
Also Make sure you have everyone in your party with some sort high priority healing tactic placed at slot 1 or 2...I like self heal with least powerful poultice set at <50. You can always dabble or have someone dabble in herbalism if you find that you are running out of potions, just make sure to buy a shitload of flasks (the cheapest place is from the bartender in Denerim).

Thanks! I chose the Bracillian forest as the first questline after Lothering, I'm guessing I should just leave and switch to the
Magi storyline
to get my healer?

Well you can turn any mage into a sort of healer and at higher level when taking 2nd spec give whatever mage you have in the group the spirit healer specialization.

I'm at the
Bracillian Forest where I can't beat the Revenant from the Gravestone you encounter in the West side (the second time you encounter the Revenant and his skeleton minions). If I decide not to beat the Revenant, will I be able to come back to the forest (after I help the elves and do other things across Ferelden) to kill the Revenant and any more Revenants I may have missed - I already killed one?

Sure this has already been answered, but the side quests in this came are not typically your standard vapid RPG side quests. Gold in this game actually holds a bit of value so collecting the rewards is often worth it. Also you can score some pretty solid loot (by DA standards) on a few of them.

None of them really stood out as amazing, but on the same note none really struck me as tedious or annoying and more often than not I was satisfied with the reward.

You right click once to select a character to attack. Then you use your hotkeys to lay into them with special attacks(I'm assuming you're using a PC here).
Once you gain some decent special attacks you can start to hit multiple enemies. Couple this with Berserker specialisation and you'll be mopping the floor in no time.
I actually thought the dual wielding warrior has made the game a little too easy for me compared to what I'm reading in here but then maybe it's because I spent a lot of time setting up tactics and making sure my party wasn't on auto level up.

The whole point of the arcane warrior is to convert your magic into strength. By the end of the game, I was wearing the superior dragonbone armor, had a shield and an enchanted sword, and around 4 or 5 defensive shield spells on me. The average enemies can barely scratch you, you do insane damage by attacking normally AND you can cast spells if you feel like it. Even better, if you specialized in blood mage, you can use your life points to cast the higher-end spells and use "sacrifice" on your ranger's summoned animal (if you have one) to regain your life points. I always cast inferno, crushing prison and sacrifice Leliana's freaky spider before I go hacking foes. :lol

Just completed the Dalish quests and even though I really sided with the Warewolves, I got the Poacher achievement which is for siding with the Elves (I ended up fighting Zariath but he ended up conceding and giving in). Anyway, there were 2 Revenant vials in that area that summon a lone Revenant so I killed all them - now I just got the two that summon the Revenant and the skeletal warriors, one outside the lair/ruin and the other inside the Forest itself. I'll probably do those later once I level up some more. So far I killed 4 Revenants (3 from vials - one at a random encounter in Denerim, and one from a gravestone that summons skeletal warriors with it).

I also got Alistair to agree to teach others to be a Templar but he doesn't seem to want to teach me when I'm in the camp with him. :(

You don't really get taught any of the specializations, they just get unlocked. If the specialization is compatible with your class (Templar is available to the Warrior), you can learn it by using a specialization point (you get 2 for the main character, one at 7 and one at 14; while other party members only get 1 point you can spend at 14). Once you unlock a specialization that dialogue response is useless and you can learn the specialization with any of your compatible characters across any of your playthroughs.

As for the Warewolves, you didn't side with them. You need to have Coercion 3 and give a certain response to Switfrunner to side with them. Kinda big spoiler/how to convince him:
You need to convince Swiftrunner to get revenge and kill all the elves to side with the warewolves. You need to have Coercion 3 for Swiftrunner to agree with you and follow you out of the ruins to slaughter the elves.

Oh, ok -
I was able to do that, but that's not the decision I wanted to make for my character. I was going to do that again with a character who was....more vengeful. One of the first things I did when I created my first character was level up my coercion because I knew I was playing a BioWare game.
:lol

You should still have the point if you didn't use it on any of the other specializations. If you're playing the PC version you can use it by bringing up the level up screen in the character menu. If you're playing the inferior peasant version :) P) you'll have to wait till you level up again before you're able to use that point.

Huh, I didn't notice it when I leveled up, I guess I'll have to look for it. It is possible I chose to specialize in something else (maybe Berserker?)...I'm not sure...I did remember seeing a special talent set that I had that I dismissed as a Warden talent specialization but it may have been the Berserker talent spec that I may have chose earlier in the game.

Alright, I finally finished this game!

-Across 5 full playthroughs: 153 Hrs
-Finished all sidequests in the final playthrough: 35 hrs (Skipped alot of the dialogue)
-Fucked anything and everyone
-1100/1100, though for some reason it's not giving me the DLC achievement points =/.

I still need to play through the Dwarf Commoner and Dalish Elf but I need a break from this game :lol.

Overall, probably one of my favorite games of all time right after Mass Effect.

There's 4 specialization options for each class. Warrior gets Champion, Berserker, Reaver and Templar. Sounds like you specialized in Berserker, guess you do have to wait till 14 for your second specialization point.

Say peoples. Does anyone know if the various DLC codes that came with the limited edition can be redeemed on other platforms, or is it platform-specific?

I ask because I have a 360 limited edition but I'm thinking I'd rather play on PC now.

Thanks!

You may have to have someone further clarify this, but I know the Blood Dragon Armor is not platform restrictive (you get a 360 or PS3 Blood Dragon code but want the game for your PC? You can input the code for the PC version). I assume it's the same across all of the codes.

Ok, graphics comment pretty much withdrawn. W7 apparently has a problem with changing shit in .ini files because nothing happens when you do. I thought I had full AF but I actually didn't, so I applied it using CCC, except I had to do it during the game, not before otherwise nothing happened either. Anyways the game no longer looks muddy as fuck and is much better now. Still some of the textures look like crap, but I'd rather than than what was the equivalent of smearing vasoline on my screen.

I really reccomend the DA Redesigned mod to everyone, it fixes the Oblivion effect on all the playable characters and over 160 NPC's. This isn't a 'make everyone a movie star and chicks porn stars' mod though, the guy stuck to the lore very heavily when making it. But, if you want, he has the option for some of the characters to be porn stars/movie stars. He has a pic of the before/after for every character that was changed so you can choose one that suits or none at all.
Oh and the White teeth mod fixed my gripe that everyone looked british, I know its kinda loreish etc but meh it was pretty gross, especially on chicks.
Link http://www.dragonagenexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=55

Anyway, that's enough whoring for the mod. Back to playing the game.

Nothing seems to work for me to force AF with an ATI card an 9.12 drivers. There is no difference in image quality.

Strange, changing the .ini files on my laptop with a GeForce and my PC with an ATI, worked fine.

This can happen when you have an unused special attack on one of the hotkeys and it is queued to be unleashed next time you attack. You should notice that your stamina won't go all the way back up as well. You can left click the talent to unqueue it. or right click other to queue them up.

just use greater warmth balm, don't engage in melee at all, and let flemeth focus on your mage (your high magic = effective, cheap lesser health poultices; hence, you heal much easier). i would use reduce resistance, death hex, cone of cold, blizzard (since she doesn't move at all), glyph of paralysis
