you ain't hardcore bro. I own all the original individual DVDs except the saiyaman arc which I have on VHS. :lol

I'm never gonna watch those damn things because the filler is tough to watch.

Those the redone ones with original Japanese audio? I was looking at them earlier and was thinking of picking them up.

Orange Bricks: Faux-widescreen with both both English Broadcast (Bruce Falcouner) and Japanese audio options.

Dragon Boxes: 4:3 with better redone tracings and Japanese audio only.

The only advantage to the Orange Bricks is if you want the broadcast audio that aired with the dub.

Some of the filler episodes were good :( But there's a reason they invented the fast forward button.

Yeah but I don't like to break the viewing experience by fast forwarding every few minutes.

But Goku learning to drive is badass, I own 2 copy's of it.

Getting the Kai bluerays for now would probably be the best choice for now. I'll probably get the boxes some time next year. How many episodes do each blueray include?

13 per set

Unless you already love Z to death, its pretty obselete for new fans. Kai has significantly less filler and a much better dub. I'm sticking with the Dragon boxes basically because I want the entire show intact, but I think most people won't miss all the fat.

I do wish the boxes had the dub soundtrack on it though, then it would be perfect. Not that I'm in love it, but I feel like I'm missing something. The English track with the original score feels like a waste, because I don't think the majority of fans are really interested in that, dub fans or fans of the original. Personally, I just want it for comparison's sake.

Like Kagari said, there are some fillers that are pretty good that I wouldn't mind watching again, and that is why I'll probably end up getting the DBZ boxes sometime.

I would have supported Kai if the animation were completely redone, or at least the episodes with crap animation redone.

Nnothing seems to be different besides some of the voices, and music. If Kai looked like the intros, then it would have been awesome.

Honestly if that doesn't happen after kai is milked dry I'd be shocked. The cash cow that is dragonball won't end after kai, it'll be redrawn and after that I bet a new show in all cg.

Same shit is gonna happen to one piece if it ever ends.

Toriko will be replacing DragonBall Kai in April on FujiTV. At that point, Kai will have likely have reached the end of the Cell storyline.

Dun Dun Dun...

Someone's going to say "Toei's finally doing what Toriyama didn't, and ending it at Cell!", aren't they? :(

April? Aren't the Cell games about to start? They'll be well past the Cell storyline by then, methinks.

They should really just do Boo saga.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO~

Kai is much better than the original for me. I've been watching the Goku vs. Freeza english dub and it's really compelling. I didn't care so much the first time around.

Still no news on the future of Kai, but Sean Schemmel said something interesting on Twitter, it was in response to a fan asking for more Dragon Ball:

Anyone who knows what GT is, and what Kai aims to be will be very confused in regards to that tweet. Maybe he just means a redub?

Ok I know DBZ Kai is meant to be more faithful to the original source but can someone explain to me how this is an example of that? :lol

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3v30HToswDs

There's nothing non-cannon about that, the Ginyu Force is a parody of the tokusatsu genre (Power Rangers, Kamen Rider, those things), they also have all their names based on milk products.

hah I'm actually confused. Kai is suppose to be like the manga. so if they are doing Kai GT, what is it suppose to be like? Is there a GT manga?

Kai version of GT= new dub (new music?) and maybe some cut scenes (unnecessary for a 64 episode show imo).

Basically, it would be really stupid, especially if it is done by FUNimation. From what I can tell, the Kai Blu Rays are selling well in Japan, so if I were Toei, finish the god damn series and sell it on Blu Ray if, for whatever reason, they lose that 9:00 timeslot.

Yeah, Japanese music with English dub in 5.1, English music with English dub in 2.0 and Japanese music with Japanese voices in stereo.

Did I ever claim I was trying to be hardcore, "bro?"

No way... That would actually be awesome. I support this move 100%. The kids don't need to see the garbage that was Buu saga anyway.

Has Toriyama ever stated his opinion on GT in any interviews? Does he consider them canon?

There are some comments from Toriyama about Goku turning into a kid and early GT, saying that he enjoyed the direction it went and might have done something similar.

As far as continuity goes, he hever talked about GT directly, but he did say that the movies are alternate dimensions, and GT considers the movies canon (Dragon Fist, movie villains cameo in the group shots during the Super 17 Saga)...

A gag manga featuring some DBZ characters made by Toriyama (Neko Majin Z) also had different designs for older Uub, Pan and Goten in the final chapter, rather than the ones used by GT.

So recently solicitations for a "Dragon Ball Kai Complete Song Collection" have appeared... The release date is just after Toriko begins airing on FujiTV.

More confirmation that Kai will end at 99? 99 episodes because Dragon Ball Kai's home distributor lists only 99 episodes for the series, and has the end of the Cell saga listed to go through the end of 99. They were right about the episode counts for the Saiyan, Frieza, and Artifical Human plots...

He probably sees it the same way he sees Evolution, as another person's take on Dragon Ball.

whats going on in this thread? is anyone actually watching the japanese subs?

shit is going down. goku vs. cell was fucking dope.

so stoked. i felt like some of the sequences in the goku vs. cell fight weren't even in the original air. so good. goku was a badass. but now we got the real shit coming up. STOKED.

Pretty pumped for it. I can't exactly remember all the details of this fight, so this one will be really exciting to watch. I remembered most of what we have seen so far, but I'm really blank on what occurs from here until the standoff when
Gohan and Cell measure their dicks and Gohan wins
. Can't wait for it. Spoilered in case somebody doesn't actually know how it ends

I don't mind filler when you can skip it (i.e. filler episodes), but my problem with Dragonball filler is that a lot of the filling material is Vegeta standing there with mouth agape at something the opponent just did.

Kagari said:
So is this thing ending soon or what.

Hopefully not. They have been doing great so far. Hope they include Buu saga as well. If you don't want to watch it, don't watch it. A lot of good fights in that saga ie. Goku versus Vegeta that I would like to see edited for filler, plus in nice quality.

I'm taking the "wait for the english Blu-ray release" route to watch Kai. It really sucks. The next part doesn't come out until March while most of those episodes are streaming on Nicktoons' website.

The price I pay for unedited and better quality Dragon Ball.

um.... toriyama came up with the premise for GT.

No he didn't. He came up with the character designs, and in one of the guide books he states how he's excited to see how the story unfolds because for the first time he'd be able to sit back and watch it as a viewer, and not the creator. Later on during the Dragon Box GT release, a note he wrote actually says how interesting the concepts in the show were, and that he would have never thought of them.

You can read a transcript of that letter here.

Kagari said:
If they decide not to do the Buu saga... that would be the most amazing thing.
agreed. Kai would be, like, the definitive version of DBZ, including the manga chapters, in that case, haha
