I'm speechless.

Understandable given the circumstances, but it's just never-fucking-ending with this show. First it's canceled, then the music thing, now they're not even going to air an episode. Crazy.

Toei just doesn't give a fuck. Kai was the cheapest cash grab possible, and when they learned people knew that they decided to run away.

Pre-empting One Piece for one week wouldn't have killed them. Nor would it have killed them to push Toriko's premiere back a week (though admittedly they'd have scheduling issues since a One Piece x Toriko special is supposed to air on the Friday before the premiere).

For anyone who loved the Bruce Faulconer sets , Scott morgan ( Who worked on the dub OST) still does DBZ Music on his youtube account.

Future's Sword ( Trunks ) EPIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Vegeta's SSJ3 theme

I wish they hired this guy to do the Kai sets :( , sucks he doesnt get much credit but he was the original creator of Trunks/vegeta/Pikkon themes.

And Kai concludes. Fuck, this is depressing. I didn't even watch the "finale" but apparently Trunks just left, and Goku patted Gohan on the shoulder as ChiChi cries for the death of her husband. This is not Dragon Ball.

Instead of a next episode preview they showed ads for One Piece and Toriko. I hope you Toei and Bandai don't whore out One Piece and Toriko as bad as they did Dragon Ball. This is disgusting. Fuck you Toei. Seriously, fuck you.

I don't know why, but I just burst into laughter after reading that. Now, I really want to see the last episode.

Apparently ChiChi crying is done just as the credits with Dragon Soul being the close out insert song. A dagger through my heart as I read that.

To be fair, in the last episode of GT ChiChi cries out to Goku to come back to her, even bribing him with food. But that is obviously a lot different from this. Toei must hate poor ChiChi, they made her a bitch in the anime, and makes her cry all the time.

Err what's with the outrage about Chi-Chi crying when Goku died? It happened in the manga... This last episode was also exactly how it went in the manga. I'm guessing the real last episode was suppose to have been Trunks going back to his time and finish business there but that's all. What more were you guys expecting?

apparently it's what they choose as the ending for the show. Chichi crying while the credits roll and dragon soul plays. I suppose it just comes off as weird.

What the hell, the ending of the Cell saga was supposed to be happy, or bittersweet at the very worst. Goku passes the torch on to Gohan! They should have ended it with this:

176-49.jpg

or something to that effect.

Also, judging from how this episode ended, it looks like they're scrapping episode 98 completely. It's Trunks going back and saving his future, so it's not entirely necessary, but still... would have been nice as an extra on the Blu rays or something.

Hopefully the next time Toei tries to milk the series while making as little new material as possible, they actually commit to it and treat it with some kind of respect. That means no plagiarized music, actually finishing the series, and none of those distractingly cheap looking re-animated scenes.

And kudos to Funimation for actually making a respectable dub this time, that was one of the better things to come out of this Kai thing.

Sadly, they weren't all awesome like that song :P

There are a lot of terrible songs/pieces of music in the DBZ dub, but I'll take them gladly if it means I get to keep the good ones.

Ox King Consoles
The Dragon Theme
Gohan Fights Frieza
Super Saiyan Vegeta Theme
Mystic Gohan's Theme
Vegeta's Theme
Gohan's Anger 2
Babidi Casts Spell

Bruce definitely got a lot better as he went along. My biggest complaint for his music has always been that it is way too random, and at times, obstructive. It needs to learn to take the backseat and simply be background music. This song is a perfect example---it has a lot of great ideas in it, but they end up being thrown together into this jumbled mess that is damn distracting.

Rips off Cells Tail

I'd be really interested if someone would post some songs from either the Ocean dub or original Japanese that they think are good. I've never really gave anything else a listen, and am very interested in what the other versions came up with.

The problem with almost all of bruce's score is that, while there are some good beats in his songs, there is a bunch of random ass generic gutar rifts that you never notice, that contribute nothing to the song overall, but that act as a volume amplifier. His entire score is an attention whore. always trying to grab the spotlight of a scene.

I mean, listen to hell's bells. Does anyone fucking notice the guitar parts when watching the show? No, you hear the bells and the drum beat, and that's it. You think "Hey, that's a pretty sweet track." And then you hear it in isolation and it's like "why is there all this guitar crap in the background ruining the song?" Almost all of his songs sound a lot better in the show than they actually do on their own, since the dialogue covers up the almost universally shitty background noise in his songs.

The entire sound editing is kind of a mess in the original funi dubs from Z. Between Bruce's random sequences in his tracks and all the internal monologues the characters had, it's almost like the voice actors/director and Faulconer were in a shouting contest with each other, trying to talk over the other. The voices tried to drown out faluconer's music, and falcouner's music tried to drown out the voices.

You can thank Christopher Sabat for that, since he's been in charge of it.

Now that's just bullshit.

Does anyone know how the Kai dub is doing in ratings anyways?
They might just replay the regular buu saga if it is doing good enough here.

Fuck. I knew something was wrong with episodes 96 soundtrack. Totally killed the episode for me. FAIL.

ARE YOU HAPPY KAGARI!!!! IM A BROKEN MAN NOW!!!!!

I partially expect Dragon Ball Next to be Naho Oshii's take on the franchise via a weekly serialization. I feel like Shueshia's prepping her for it.

I've got a question with saiyans getting stronger. The last episode where Krillin blasted Vegeta he said Krillin had to because self inflicted damage on saiyans doesn't make them stronger but when Goku was training in the little space pod thing he kept blasting himself and then using senzu beans and getting super strong. Is vegeta just mistaken or why would it work for Goku and not Vegeta? Even if they never say I would think it's assumed he's tried it before to see if it makes him stronger.

Assuming Vegeta's statement is true, I think that Goku's power-up was because of his extreme training to the point that he was blasting himself (to build up his defense maybe?) and in 100x gravity. Not necessarily because he was recovering from a near-death situation.

Goku was blasting himself? That does not sound like Goku at all, and cant remember that part.

I remember him training, and I think I remember energy balls, but not him purposefully shooting himself with energy.

This. It was simply intense training.

There was a scene where Goku shot 3 (I believe) kamehamehas at himself. I forget if they showed it in the manga, though it could have just been filler.

Dragon Ball SD Chapter 2 was released.

It's okay. The major change is that
Vegeta's death is the catalyst for Goku turning Super Saiyian. Even though that completely invalidates the importance of SD Chapter 1 even existing...

Cutesy super deformed retellings of various events in Dragon Ball history created by Akira Toriyama's assistant Naho Ooshii (who previously made a manga adaptation of the 2008 anime special). It's full colour, and published in a bi-monthly (IIRC) JUMP anthology aimed at youngsters.

So Dragon Ball Z Kai is basically perfect for me from the music to the editing to the remastering to the recasting. It's seriously like they made all the changes to the show with me in mind. I've got all four Blu Rays currently available.

The music plagiarism stabbed me like a knife because I really fell in love with the soundtrack. Faulconer's soundtrack had some legit songs on it despite being a little overbearing at times, and I'd take it over the awful soundtrack from the original Japanese show any day, but Kai really nailed it for me. Do we know what's going to happen to the show's English release yet? Particularly the DVD and Blu Ray versions? I didn't watch the show on NickToons cos I didn't want the censored version, but since they took their sweet time with the home releases, now it looks like the good music has to be ditched before Frieza even dies. I really feel ripped off.

And to top it all off, now it seems like they're ending the show prematurely with Cell? I realize why a person would prefer that ending, and you could make a serious case that that's how the manga SHOULD have ended, but how can you sign on to make a definitive remastering of the series and cut out the entire ending story arc? The Buu saga is when Vegeta finally matures in a meaningful way, between Babidi's mind control and his epiphany during the fight with Kid Buu. Plus I really liked Buu as a villain. :(

I basically only heard all this news as it first happened. Have there been any developments since then? I heard that it was canceled in Japan because the ratings were poor, while in America it remains the second best rated show on Nick Toons or something huge like that. I heard a similar thing happened with Big O: poor ratings in Japan, great ratings in America, so American companies funded the completion of the last season or something. Any chance of that happening here? Has it been said if this was Toei's plan from the beginning or if it was really canceled due to ratings? Is there ANY good news at all??? :(

1. Yamamoto music will be replaced with the Kikuchi score. I believe they even delayed some of the blu rays for this very reason.

2. It's ending with Cell because it's doing shitty in Japan. It has nothing to do with Toriyama's original intentions (despite what the fans may think).

3. FUNi isn't funding shit. Kai is going to be 98 episodes, no more.

Worst possible outcome. Damn.

Kai's ratings were never bad. It's just that nothing Dragon Ball is being bought. No one in Japan is buying Dragon Ball merch.

A representative from Toei Europe apparently said the jury was out on any potential Boo saga in Kai.

Yeah, anime in Japan is really a vehicle for selling toys and other merch. Seems like Japan was willing to watch the show for free on TV, and nothing more.

Encouraging to hear that it's at least a possibility, though it's hard for me to get excited about anything with the original Japanese soundtrack. Hopefully something good will come out of this trainwreck afterall.

I finally picked up the blurays and watched through episode 52. I haven't watched much DBZ since the original dub that was on cartoon network, and even then I mostly just watched the Namek part. I know basically how the cell and buu stories go but I never had the patience to watch them. Kai's pacing makes this way more watchable although the Frieza part still takes forever. I'd seen/read a little bit of uncensored DBZ before, but watching the whole story through uncensored is a big improvement too. Everyone's meaner than I remember them, I love it. Some of the tactics make a lot more sense uncensored as well. Like the scene where Gohan is paralyzed after getting his neck snapped by a ginyu force dude. In the old cartoon network version Gohan is just lying there like an asshole cause he's tired or something.

One thing I'm wondering now is, if it was common knowledge that saiyans get way stronger after near-death injuries, why wasn't it standard saiyan training before the show even started to just let yourself get clobbered once a week?

Bye, bye Dragon Ball AF, hello Dragon Ball Hoshi:

Akira Toriyama is rumor to be making a new Dragon Ball series alongside mangaka Naho Ooishi, The creator of the 2008 Dragon Ball Z special "Yo! son goku and friends return". called, Dragon Ball Hoshi. Ooishi will be making a manga that continues the Z Manga past the Buu saga. It will have a newly designed Super Saiyan 4, and even a Super Saiyan 5. Akira Toriyama will be assisting her and backing off. The events in japan (earthquake, tsunami) slowed this down now Toriyama is taking care of that. It's rumor to be out later this year or early 2012.

Saiyans don't heal quickly after near death experiences. Thus it is not effective to have a race who's devoted to be mercenaries out to kill/enslave other planets taking sick days.

lol so fake

As cool as it would be to have more new Dragonball, at this point it would be better to just go the oav route than on-going(even though any new thing is fake till proven otherwise). Even then, it would likely have to focus on Goten and Trunks since almost everyone else is so strong, like the last movie.

So question:

Why do Raditz/Vegeta make such a big deal about the Earth fighters being able to raise and lower power level when Vegeta and Napa themselves both clearly power up on several occasions during the invasion?

I believe they can't hide their maximum power level, although they can adjust their....output.

Ok then, here's another tough question.

Why does the scouter that Bulma fixes break when it senses Goku break 21,000 with Kao-Ken x3 when later on scouters can read like 400,000 or millions?
