LMAO..true.. Piccolo fused with Nail and he went toe to toe with Frieza's first transformation. Imagine combining with 1/3 of the Namekians

Nail's power level was 42,000. The other Namekian warriors were only 3,000. Merging with Nail was probably worth more than merging with all the other Namekians combined.

How come all of Goku's useless non-Saiyan/Namekian friends never used Kaioken, despite training with King Kai for a year?

Stop posting crummy Multiverse pictures. Everyone knows it's about Toybles AF comic anyways, lol.

No way, Multiverse is probably the best one just because it's answering a decade's worth of fanwank questions.

Toyble's is ok but so dang slow.

These fighters are so bad at strategy. If I was fighting, I wouldn't let my oponent spend 5 minutes charging up to full power so he could beat me. I'd just beat him while I was stronger than his current form.

It wouldn't be Dragonball Z if people didn't allow their opponents to do ridiculously long powerups.

Is there any reason why they decided to stop Kai after Cell Saga but left out all the Boo stuff that comes after?

Dragon Ball's no longer an automatic license to print money any more in Japan. The parties involved decided to run with a new property in hopes of striking gold. Of course, the only reason Dragon Ball's no longer a money printer is because of the abuse those parties put the franchise through.

cause Goku is natural with it. King Kai who invented the shi*, said at one point that he himself couldnt master it the way Goku did

and, there is also a theory that who ever invented Saiyans (never seen Kaioshins) pretty much "tuned" all the skills to be fitted for saiyans.

WTF

Why would they release the original Dragon Ball Z on Blu-ray when Dragon Ball Z Kai is already on Blu-ray and is better?

Surprising no one, FUNimation continues to milk the DBZ cow by releasing the original on BR.

After they are done with that, they can do DBGT and then maybe DB before they start putting Kai on BR. :P

Somewhat of a plothole I just thought of:

When Goku was just sitting around on Kami's tower waiting for Vegeta and Trunks to come out of the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, he instant transmissions to pick up Tien and Piccolo from form 2 Cell.

My question is, why didn't he instant transmission Android 18 to like Pluto or New Namek or something until they defeat Cell?

Androids don't have Ki, so he couldn't locate her.

Plus Android #18 would just kill him anyway.

Not so much a plothole as a "why didn't the characters think to do this?".

She's a cyborg, so she'd presumably have some kind of life force presence that he could track. It'd just be fairly unremarkable like a regular human non-combatant.

Well he knew they were with Piccolo. He could have done it after Cell absorbed #17 but before #18 left, around when Tien first showed up.

OR he could have instant transmissioned Cell to as far away from Earth as possible, then spent a bunch of time in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber powering up, destroying 17/18, etc.

Instant transmission kind of raises too many questions...

It requires a vast amount of concentration though. I don't think Goku would be able to use it in close proximity, especially against a vastly superior opponent.

I'm actually piqued by the Orange Box -> Blu-rays. Perfect for those of us who grew up watching this on Toonami with the Falconer music, despite it not being the original music. A way to relive some of my childhood I guess.

Only (most likely) uncut. Bonus.

Yeah, that's probably true. I guess it's best not to dwell on these things. :P Usually I just dismiss them but I thought this one was a pretty big gap in judgment on Goku's part.

Is it confirmed they'll have the broadcast music? I mean, there's no reason not to in terms of space on the discs, and it'd be good for the people that want it (I prefer the original score but do have some fond memories of some of the dub tracks), but I figured Funimation were moving away from it.

The release will have both the Japanese and English soundtracks.

Well, I HOPE this means both dub and score, but could just be dual-voice I guess.

Yeah, I'd guess that it's just refering to the "English voices over Japanese music" track that's on the orange bricks and Dragon Boxes. It's the audio track they used for episodes on PSN as well.

I'm looking through the original non-Kai episodes right now, having only read the mangas before, and holy fuck do they drag things out. Filler included, these episodes are ten pages at most of a manga volume. The first few episodes were pretty good, but volume #18 was dragged out over half a fucking season. I'm still enjoying this though.

"Soundtrack" almost definitely means the Faulconer score. And it'll most likely use the orange box transfer. I'm just curious if it'll still be cropped, and what price they'll push it for.

Also 17 eps per set is good compared to the (non-bundled, non-reissued "season") Kai sets, but still pretty lame compared to the 35 episodes per orange box set. I'm sure that's where most of the sales came from, there were lots of eps and it was cheap. Kai gets by having fewer eps per set because it cuts the filler and the overall series is (almost 2/3?) smaller. These new DBZ Blu-rays, it'll be interesting to see if they sell.

I also don't blame Funimation. It's good they're putting DBZ on a new format, Kai or no Kai. It's just, I don't know how many people will rebuy an upscaled series when they already have it all on DVD, and it was a completely SD series to begin with.

That's where Kai shines. Even discounting the filler arcs, they pick and pick at each individual episode so it's clean of the fat and only the bone's left.

I think it's a near perfect set for me since (some ifs) it's

English dub
Falconer score (I saw it with this score first and now it's stuck that way in my head)
Uncut (Never airs in the US uncut it seems)
Not Cropped (I hope)
and if the Remaster is any good, yay for remaster on Blu-Ray

Now my never-to-be-granted wish would be if the falconer music was somehow put into Kai, I know not many people want that but like I said...my brains stuck into wanting that.

Also, I don't have any of the orange boxes.

I wish Kirby Morrow wouldn't do Goku anymore. He's a decent VA, but there are better, more suitable people to voice Goku.

Lee Tockar doing Freeza sounds awesome, however. Loved his Vile in the Megaman cartoon.

He did the early movie dubs right? (Before Schemel or whatever his name stepped in during the Namek saga in the first run?)

I remember in the Tree of Life movie when he's talking to his lookalike guy and oddly shouts "My NAME is goKUUU!" Always laugh at that.

edit: Hmm, seems like Sean also did Tree of Life, maybe I'm misremembering..

Sean Schemmel is the one and only Goku. <3 Yes nostalgia blinds me but he's a fantastic VA who not only was good originally in DBZ, but has grown by leaps and bounds by Kai.

Uncut aired on Cartoon Network in 2005 for like 20 episodes, and had like three DVDs before that line was cancelled. Thankfully the orange bricks didn't cut or alter any footage (aside from the up-resing and cropping, as mentioned.)

I also have a nostalgia-on for the Faulconer music, and I think I will get the DBZ Blu's when that set completes (no way I'm jumping in at full price when it's unknown if Funimation will even finish the series.) Until then I'll pick up the Kai sets, they're almost done (3 or 4 sets left I think?), so there should be enough time between when the two are finished that I won't feel like so much of a consumer whore for buying both.

And I've actually (somewhat) tricked my mind into thinking Kai is a new show. The new music and couple of new voices have helped with that. Then a few years after Kai I'll go full nostalgia with the DBZ BR's.

Yes, I too have been watching Kai like I've never seen the show before. The faster flow really helps.

Yeah, that too. Although going back to the old dub will be a bit painful, not only because of the filler but because of the old script which is probably showing its age now.

And I know I'm probably going to rush through the series until I get to Buu, because by the time I rewatch DBZ it'll be like 14-15 years since I'd originally watched it. Jeez. Typing that makes me feel old.

There were two Ocean guys that did Goku before Funimation took over VA production in-house, Ian Corlett (voice of Megaman, Cheetor, and Bob from Reboot), who did the first half of the series, then was replaced by Peter Kelamis.

Both Cortlett and Kelamis did the Tree of Might interestingly, enough. Corlett did the version with Shuki Levy's score, and Kelamis did the uncut version and the first two movies.

Personally, Corlett's my fav Goku ever. :)

Also, I think I hate Andrex.

Kai stopped interesting me once we got more solid details about it. If it'd been a proper "true to the manga" redo with new animation instead of just hacking away the fat of the original series I'dve been down, but the product as it is doesn't really appeal to me.

What I've heard of the new dub sounds great, though.

Yeah, honestly I think it's one of the best dubs of all time. Not only because it stays true to the Japanese material, but it still keeps some things a little American where they need to be, like the special attacks.

Also I think if they were going to do new animation, I'd want a new series or set of OVA's out of it. Like a continuation with different characters. Treat Dragon Ball Online as canon, and make a series out of that. :P

Oh, I'd absolutely prefer proper new material to retreading old ground. But as they were doing it anyway, I'dve liked to have seen it done properly.

If we could get something like Yo! Son Goku and His Friends Return once a year, I'd be more than happy.

I don't begrudge Kai for not having new animation. The old animation, even if it was 20+ years old, still holds up decently today. And considering Toei, they'd still go ultra cheap on the re-animation (lol), so we'd end up with quality like the redrawn scenes in Kai, which are downright horrible. So I'm decently satisfied they didn't do that.

Who wouldn't be happy with that?

The only things we have now are fanmanga...

Okay, don't ACTUALLY hate you, but still man, Sean Schemmel? Do I NEED to invoke godwin's law?

Who?

He manages both the lighthearted Goku moments and the angry ones with ease and without sounding like an 80 year old woman. What's there not to like?

OT but what DBGT dub was shown on Toonami when it debuted in the UK 6+ years ago?

It had different voices compared to the Funi version I've seen, I mostly remember SSJ4 Goku's voice, Baby's voice and Omega Shenrons voice which was very deep.
