Cali works fine without Kale. It’s Kale that needs Cali, otherwise she’s just a Broly clone. In honestly, I can live without Kale since I find her the weakest of the U6 Saiyans.

last week's preview confirmed it. Caulifla saves Goku from a U3 fighter. She challenges Goku, Goku says he's too weak, tells her that fighting her will help him regain his stamina. It's also probably how he taps back into UI.

The way it's framed makes it look like Beerus tells him to powerup because he's trying to get Goku to impress the Zenos after the earlier fight that they couldn't really see, so Goku going three gives them a bit of a show (plus he only stayed in SSJ2 for a short amount of time, so perhaps the jump from 1 to 2 bored them because it wasn't much different)
