Dragon Quest 11 releasing July 29th in Japan for 3DS and PS4

There is still a change that Nintendo wants to announce this. You know, there is a direct coming. Probably not gonna happen but possible.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
No im just assuming it will be. Do you think it will be a unique version all its own?

I dont know - they havent talked or marketed the Switch version at all. Considering the later release date - i dont know if they would bother if it was just a port. NX getting a version was in the plans for a while - so i think it being more unique or having exclusive features might happen.

Switch installed base is rather small for a title like DQ right now, so they are in less of a hurry to release this version. After Splatoon 2 and this Holiday season they will be 5x as much Switch consoles out there.

I guess we will see if it being late will impact it at all. I could see exclusive features being a draw i suppose.

I only wanted the Switch Version to be day and date with everything else so we could see the battle for supremacy between the three versions.

My hypothesis is SE see the switch as a handheld, they see a handheld port of the ps4 version then as direct competition to the 3DS Version (which will be the biggest selling version), and to maximise sales if the 3ds version they are holding off on the switch port for a later date. They then hope to capitalise on double dippers who bought the 3ds version and bought a switch afterwards.

Pretty big blow to the switch. This would have been an incredible coup to big up a game of this calibre so early in its life span.

It is a missed opportunity for sure. I think the game is still coming at some point, but this is what Switch needs right now.

This release makes PS4 even more attractive than Switch. The 3DS version will likely be the best selling version by far, regardless.

No Switch means I'll probably hold off on importing then, and just wait to see what they do with an eventual western release.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
Pretty good date and not too far off.

Methinks that the PS4 version and Switch port will come next year in English, not the 3DS version.

What if Nintendo announces the switch version in the direct, then announce DQ XI is switch exclusive outside Japan.

Realistically would this even help the PS4 in Japan? Figuring its on 3DS and the massive install base there, most people would flock to that one.

Speak for yourself, this stream makes it obvious that it will be released later. Switch is on the market now. If that ver. was coming day and date with PS4/3DS then they would have said so.

Oh i wasnt talking about the release date.

One obvious thing would be the Switch version featuring all 3 graphic styles - if thats the case it would make even more sense to drop it later because right now people will need to get both versions for to experience classic and more modern DQ gameplay.

Especially if they dont wanna bother with a western release of the 3DS version - Switch version featuring the oldscool setup as well would be rad. Switch version will have to be ready for the western release - but in Japan they can afford to launch it later because of 3DS/PS4.

I figured it'd be around that time given the recent media blitz for the game. Nice.

It's cheap compared to other high profile 3DS releases, is what he meant.

Wasn't that the same price as DQIX? Though it's weird seeing it cost basically basically the same as the VII and VIII remakes.

I would be interested to see if they decided that aiming for PS4 spec was too much to ask for of a Switch version, and instead will go with a premium port of the 3DS version instead. Which might help for localization chances (and after Blaster Master Zero it WOULD be pretty neat to play that kind of RPG there when it comes to the classic style.)

But, hopefully this means we can hear what's going on with the NA release by the end of the year, since I'm assuming this is going to be following a more traditional localization schedule than the kind a major international release has.

nothing so far made DQXI look unachievable on switch. nit after Zelda botw

Reading these comments...it's like they delayed this Switch version and the PS4/3DS versions don't even exist.

portability is a factor. people are excited for the system etc. etc.

im going to wait for the switch version too
I think I'll pick up the 3ds version upon release and then wait for switch version to come out

yeah pretty much what i will do

There are some people who aren't interested in the game itself, only in how it will help the Switch.
Say what now? This can't be a thing going on with Nintendo fans.

Umm...so why not get the 3DS version? We don't even know what the Switch version looks like yet.

I wouldn't be surprised if this is the case. With the NA/PAL version most likely only happening next year, I wonder if maybe the Switch version will be simultaneous for them. The 3DS version will probably have its lunch eaten compared to the other two outside Japan but still be released as a token to the hardcore. Like Persona 5 on PS3 or BOTW on Wii U.

Ah well. Anyway, end of July is a lot sooner than I thought. I was thinking Q4, so hey, that's pretty cool. Glad there's finaly a release date for this.

Say what now? This can't be a thing going on with Nintendo fans.

Games being used as ammo for console/list wars is nothing new, unfortunately.

Pricing was likely one factor why DQIX sold that well on the DS. Is this cheaper than past DQ handheld titles for DS/3DS ?

I dont think any mainstream + mio seller on 3DS has been priced higher. When you wanna sell multiple millions on a handheld you cant really afford Atlus type niche market software prices.

We have all the information about PS4/3DS - there is less left to discuss there...both versions have been prominently featured in leading up to this event. Dont know what you are expecting.

Why wouldn't it be a thing? Hoping games you're not personally interested in do well seems like a logical thing to do if you want the games that actually interest you (by that dev) on the platform.

Isn't that what I just said at the end?

PS4 isn't the dominant platform in Japan, but the game will do big numbers there. Of course it well help.

Anyway, I'm glad the game is coming soon. I'll keep my 3DS around in anticipation of the eventual localization. I still have to get through DQ V and VII.

would have been nice to get a release window. maybe tomorrow.

I'll admit I'm only really interested in how DQ performs sales wise (though not only on switch). I live in Australia so I'll be lucky if the game ever releases so it's hard to be excited about the game itself.

That is literally what is happening here. People are prowling every thread about a game that should launch on the Switch because it doesn't exactly have a robust third party lineup. I'm actually intrigued by this for PS4, unfortunately I live state side so looks like I'll be considering at the end of the year or next year.

I feel the delay might indicate the opposite.
If it was the 3DS game, would having it ready by launch be as difficult?
It might be better to just upgrade the 3D side to be more high end, which would also help make up for a delay and make it worth rebuying.

I'm just kind of assuming we've reached the point where it's not so obvious anymore whether or not something isn't doable on a gameplay level. Although even then it might be too much of a pain to make satisfactory visual cuts anyway.

Or just want the portability/TV switching. I've played all of them since 4 except 10 and will be waiting for the Switch version. I'm excited for it so want a release date.

Will buy switch version when it gets released. Guessing the Switch version will come out a year after release possibly with bonus dungeons or something and extra playable characters

I'll say that i'll get the game on whatever platform it comes to here in america. I was just curious about the Switch version ever since they let it slip back then.

If that's all you want, you can do something similar with the PS4 version and remote play on a Vita.
