Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen Comes to PC This January

I will agree with you that the first stages of the game can be a bit dry past the novelty of seeing everything for the first time. This is especially apparent when doing NG+. That could have been done better. BUT I love the endgame stuff and how it rectifies many of the complaints you might have before that point (weak enemies, same enemy placement, underwhelming loot, etc). Its hard for me to complain.

I liked the "refresh" of t he enemies in endgame. I only wish there wasn't
perpetual twilight
throughout the world in endgame. Really made me not want to play anymore. Maybe a mod can fix it.

I thought the traditional mythological monster design was a fresh breath of air. Too many games try to "innovate" on top of iconic designs, but end up with something blander.

Not talking about Souls monsters though, they're legit awesome.
Agreed. I'm playing ffxiv right now and its terrible. souls series always had an elegance in its exagerated designs. DD just kept it very folksy and true to "legend" aesthetic.

Both Guts's pre-eclipse armor and Griffith's armor are already in the game.

This is so crazy. I never new those designs were inspired by berserk... I only just started watchig it recently after hearing how bad the villain is.

I would assume it happened because they had to port the engine for DD:Online to PC in the first place, and since the game seems to massively reuse everything from the original, I guess it wasn't too hard to make a PC port of the original, which will let them both make money and test the waters for a western release of DD:Online(which sadly so far looks kinda garbage, especially if you've played the original already since it reuses everything with very few new things and a lot of things removed). I don't feel it's a coincidence this is being released only a few months after the DD:Online japanese beta started.
Original DD was made using MT Framework, so they always had an excellent starting point for a PC version. As far as I understand it, any MT Framework game has a target build for PC set up, so a port would primarily involve adding PC-only features (like mouse/keyboard support), porting specific features (like the online stuff), and fixing PC-only bugs.

The only surprising thing is how goddamn long it took. It's really hard to make sense of Capcom sometimes.

Anyways, I've had it on PS3 since it was on PS+ but I've been waiting for a PC version.

Only Red Dead Redemption and Vanquish left to go!

Is Vanquish/Bayonetta owned by Sega? I really thought they of all people who know that its a smart idea to put those games on the PC, since they make most of their money on the PC now. It doesnt cost them much and its a long term revenue source considering PC digital sales.

Sega ported Valkyria Chronicles after a popular petition, and by all accounts it was quite successful.

They will likely continue doing this as ports have proven to be very cheap to produce and long tail profitability on the back end.

Are there petitions for Vanquish or Bayonetta yet? I neeeeed Kb+m Vanquish at 60 fps before the world ends..

Is the PC version version missing DOF effects? I know some people hate DoF, but I thought they were put to good use in Dark Arisen and worked well given the longer distance asset quality (something I doubt will get too much overhaul). I'm not talking about the softness inherent in the image quality on PS3 that really was atrocious due to the resolution, but the actual DoF effects.
The PC version obviously has DoF, just look at this screenshot at its full size. It might be toned down a bit in strength compared to the console version, but that might also just be a difference in overall blur. Hard to say.

I can't fucking wait. Dragon's Dogma is about the only reason I have my PS3 still plugged in.
The PC version better come with multiple save slots though!

Could very well be DoF doesn't compensate for the different resolution. Wouldn't be the first game with a PC port that overlooks the possibility of multiple resolutions.

That's a possibility. Did any earlier MT Framework games feature DoF, and what was their behaviour?

So what's the general opinion on DD? I only ever played the first 10 minutes of the original and didn't think much of it.

My favorite game of previous gen. Combat is incredible no matter what class you choose, but you can change easily between classes if you don't like your current one... But let's be honest: you won't change it because it sucks, but because you want to try those sick moves the other classes can do.

What about the rest of the game? Presentation in great, story is serviceable, and the pawn system rocks... although all of them are masters of the obvious.

That isn't from the Dragon's Dogma team is it? It's from Capcom Online Games.

It's the same team that made Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen iirc and they started working on DDO soon after finishing that game (which is why it's cross gen). Both have the same director, Kento Kinoshita.

I still have a small hope that Itsuno is working on DD2. I know everyone believes that it is DMC 5, but he must have already started working on his new game way before the western DMC was released, and at that time they still would have thought it could possibly stay with Ninja Theory.
He also didn't work on Dark Arisen as far as i know, so i'm still a bit hopeful that it is DD2. He was so glad that he finally could work on his dream game, If it would only be up to him, i believe we would get DD2.

Ah, yeah, it's so toned down from the PS3 (or is just less noticeable with less overall blur present) that I just didn't notice. I could have sworn there was always more DoF present in distance landscapes that seems absent in the screenshots (distant mountains). If it's there it's so toned down as to be barely noticeable.

hmm then what about the team that did the main game, are they working on something major right now?

Oh, cool. I've received some heavy recs for this game before but never played the plunge. Hard to say no to PC though - Modding can fix all the rough design spots.

Next-gen remaster confirmed :-p

At this point it would be stupid not to. Dragons Dogma needs to be on as many platforms as possible in order to drive sales. Ps4 should be able to do medium pc specs at 1080p 60 fps for a last gen remaster. They also need to confirm DD Online for PC and next gen systems to NA asap. And Sengoku Basara 4....,,,

*Digs through subfolders on computer to find the .txt file that had my meticulously detailed settings/armor combinations for each of my character/pawn's physical likeness*

Yup, still got it. Makeshift Maximo & Mercedes shall venture out again.

Great news, though I hope this release will somehow support save games from the consoles, or at least after some save editing.
I'm not too big on replaying rpg's.

I doubt an official save conversion tool will be released, but this might be doable with modding. The save file for Dragon's Dogma (on xbox 360 at least) is a compressed xml file. So if the save format stays similar, it would be doable to make a converter.

I doubt there will be official support for transferring saves from PS3/360, but I wouldn't be surprised if some enterprising players figure out how people can do it on their own. There are a number of cross-platform games (Fallout, Skyrim) that people where able to transfer their saves over. Hopefully there will be a Nexus Mods community set up for the game where stuff like this can be collected and easily found.

Yeah I wasn't being completely serious but I do hope there is a workaround of some sort like you guys mentioned. Not trying to sound like a spoiled child, but there are some things in the game that I don't particularly care to do over. Not that it ultimately matters in the end, it's still a guaranteed purchase from me.
