Driveclub PS Plus Edition Delayed by Server Issues

I'd hate to see how you react when your toilet clogs up or when any other real world problem happens.

But yeah this is a mild inconvenience , I was pretty hyped about playing this a month ago. I'm also waiting for Sony to fix that PvZ issue.

Any video game problem is a mild inconvenience show so should we not call out developer when they release a shit product.

He probably copes better than those in this thread that think no one gets fired in the real world when a product is released as broken as this.

Exactly. If I promised a customer something a year ago, had to delay it, and then at release still didn't give them the product promised, you're damn right I'd expect to be fired.

Why are basic expectations considered entitled? Stop worshiping anyone who calls themselves a game developer.

No one is worshiping anyone, but even though I am also a consumer I am not going to hope that a studio full of people get fired because the game that I have been a paying $5 a month subscription for isn't perfect at launch.

I'm being a downer today (Splatoon/Sunset Overdrive thread) and I'm sure this has been mentioned in earlier pages but Driveclub is a complete failure/disaster at astronomical levels (business wise). Besides the majority of reviews saying the game just isn't that fun - it doesn't work!

This is one of (2? 3?) fall exclusives Sony had and they delayed it a year to get it right. There are meltdowns on the Driveclub Facebook page. Sites have revisited their reviews and lowered scores. People paid for this - its crazy. The studio doesn't need to close for this - but the folks in charge of the launch? They're accountable alright.

Driveclub is DOA and its a shame.

Exactly. I don't expect the folks at Evolution to be treated any differently than I'd be treated if the team I was on failed to the degree they have. Granted the software I work on facilitates actual business, but at the end of the day it's about making the company you work for money. Driveclub has been a huge embarrassment for Sony, but I don't think anyone outside of Sony or Evo knows yet if it's been a financial disaster as well. For all we know it could be doing quite well.

I think we've all made mistakes on the job. Let the bean counters at Sony make those decisions if they have to, but I'm not going to sit here and cheerlead it.

Not working perfect I can accept.

My issue is that I was promised a product and have received no product. That's not the same as there being issues.

Calm down, bro.

It's not a great situation, but they are undoubtedly trying their hardest to get the game working and to deliver on their promise to get the Plus version out as soon as possible.

It's an inconvenience at best and it's one you'll probably receive access to some free DLC for.

So just relax. No need to call for anyone's head or call for the studio to be shuttered.

They have been 'trying their hardest' long enough. Time for some Sony & Evo heads to roll. The current situation and state is unacceptable. Let's not forget they only delayed the game last year a couple of weeks before launch and only because it leaked. Sony should be ashamed of letting things get this out of hand.

I really do feel for those who are missing out on this game... it is fun as hell, kind of hard to describe...but when you are playing online, and you are like...just one more game before going to sleep...

after a race it takes you to the multiplayer race menu, and there are various races that are about to start, with countdown timers... and you are like... oh man... just one more..LOL. I stayed up till 6:30 am yesterday playing it...and stayed up till 4:30am this morning. (Today I started work at 9:30.. >_< )

but when it doesn't work, yes it pisses you off like no other...but again.. you see another race that is about to start and you try again.

anyway, I was wondering if the new Share Play feature can help those who just want to try the game for themselves before buying... I know some just want to try it.

for others though who just want their free Plus version...yeah, it's disappointing that the Plus version is no where in sight or being updated about.

but again, does anyone know if Share Play works with DriveClub? I'm sure it is off for Online events...but I would think Off line or time trials would be fine.

If I made a mistake as bad as Driveclub's launch at my job I wouldn't have one anymore.
That said I wish Evolution the best, I bought it (traded it in now), but this is a monumental error on their part.

No need to call for anyone's head

Nobody is saying they deserve to be put to death for this. Just that they should be fired, then sued. And then their families be put to a slow, agonizing death while they watch. And their houses burned down. And when every single one of them is cold and alone on the street, only then will they understand the pain they've caused.

The pain of waiting more than 2 weeks for a demo.

Seems reasonable, right? No sympathy, let them all burn and die horrible deaths 'cause I ain't waiting for a demo.
Perfect!

Oh wait, this isn't facebook, this comment should find a home on there with others just like it on their wall.

Is this even still planned to come out.
Nope, see below.

They won't, because it's obvious reading all of you that this game is doomed.
It couldn't even be a slow burner if they fixed the server issues, because we all know that racing games are a genre that's quickly out fashioned, right?
As Sony cannot do anything but closing Evolution Studios down in the short term, I don't think it's even necessary they try to fix the current situation or release the PS+ edition of the game.
Sony can refund us all and get us Knack as a compensation, I mean.

Yep, ps+ version cancelled. Retail game abandoned. Servers shut off. DLC canned. Studio closed.

Knack offered as compensation. Feel better?

I like that post of yours le-seb!
Made me chuckle.

Seriously though, hope it comes out soon for people still willing to give it a shot on PS+. I understand the frustration, and there probably will be layoffs or cuts, but it's still a really fun game driving wise.

I'm not going to say you aren't entitled to your view, but I wouldn't be so quick to fire people who fuck up or to sack whole studios. Institutional knowledge of a fuck up on this scale, and the fixes needed to get back in good graces (provided that happens) will actually level up these devs. Its the fundamental difference between experience and wisdom, and a difference between writing software that works and engineering it so that it has some flex to it, accounts for exceptional circumstances and fails gracefully.

If you fold all the studios that fuck up you're just replacing them with fresh new faces that are either overly optimistic or ready to make the same mistakes.

At the end of the day I'm personally grading Evo on a very forgiving curve just because the core pumping heart of the game is still fucking stellar. Its in everybody's interest to get this thing fixed and out there rather than breaking out the pitchforks.

But hey, if your pitchfork is already at the ready and you've done the proper stretches (don't want to pull a muscle while raging. When flipping tables use your legs, not your back.), go for it. But if you were to get your way none of us would get anything - no fully functional DriveClub and no Evo and you'd still be right where you are right now - shortchanged. Only with empty offices and pink slips to show for it.

You know that Sony reserve the right to delay and/or cancel any product they want to that launches on their services (PS+/SEN) right? You accepted their Terms of Service.

If anything happens to Evolution as a studio it's going to be because they messed up the full game launch/features, not because the PS+ version was late. Surely you can see that fixing the full versions is more of a priority than launching the PS+ version, right?

No I don't. I was promised a version as part of my subscription. Purchaser were promised a more complete version. I have nothing despite said promise. Purchasers have a game to play regardless of how "broken" it is. We both paid money. I have nothing and they have the product.

It's a really good game. It will still be a really good game when it's finally released. Until then play some Pix the Cat.

And you will get your "free" version in time. Its not like you walked in the store and paid for it and the case was empty.

You should contact Sony about that and see if they won't remove your PS+ subscription as you're clearly unhappy with the service.

Based on what I've read over the years and more commonly recently the likelihood that they will refund you seems higher than 50%.

Still no ETA for the PS+ version? Now I feel bad for getting a friend of mine excited for it...

The optimist in me says 'well, at least there won't be as large of a gap between when I get it and when the weather patch or whatever comes out'.

I really need to stop checking in on this thread. The level of hate is hilariously high.

Hopefully the PS+ version comes out soon, guys. Waiting for a game is obviously an incredibly stressful experience that not all of us have been equipped to handle.

Seriously. This is a bad situation for everyone from the studio to the players but I wouldn't want anyone to lose their job just because my driving game fix was temporarily inconvenienced. There's tons of other games to play right now.
People losing their jobs is bad. Yes! But we're talking about business here.
If I were Jim Ryan / Shu Yoshida, I would close the Evolution Studios and try to acquire a new talented studio like Ready at Dawn, Sumo Digital or Playground Games. All three of them are very good studios with a nice history (just check their latest games).
Evolution Studios? Well, just check their latest games! And just look at the whole Driveclub fiasco. The whole story about it is hilarious!

So when is Dice closing?

I think its more Sony's mess up than the developers. It seems like the developer has no prior experience doing a project like this, they are owned by Sony. They likely werent given the proper support or advice. Not that really would have made a difference. Sony doesnt seem to know what its doing with its own Server network so how could the developer be expected to get it right.

I mean with the season pass, DLC, how much money they've already invested. Closing the studio would cost them more money than it saves.

It's sort of like he walked in the store and paid for it and the case contained an IOU, though. And I'm hoping they'll honour it for people who had a PS+ sub active in October even if it doesn't release until November.

So when is Dice closing?
Seems like... never.
Because their games are making money and they are receiving great review scores.

A different studio could handle this (with a small team).
No reason to keep a big studio alive for more years, for more bombas, for more bad PR.

Has the version of the game I paid for and was promised been made available yet?

No?

Then things are not vastly improved.

Earlier this week MP was quite unplayable. Today it's perfectly playable but still missing features not yet stabilized.

Like you, I would rather enjoy the complete game with all features functioning but shit happens in software development. And those problems will be sorted

Employees shouldn't lose their jobs but I think someone like Rushy probably should be on the chopping block. The launch, management of time for a timely release and communication after the issues have all been horrible.

Say you were an exec at EA or Acti and you saw this guy's resume and under products you've successfully launched you saw DC, would you want this guy leading your team? Sorry but I sure wouldn't.

Their next game is going to bomb?

If ANYONE was going to get fired for this wouldn't it be whoever was responsible for the server bug that is causing these issues? Not saying I want even those people to be fired, but I don't see how a director is directly responsible. Without more information anyway.

I didn't say that I hope they close. I said I have no sympathy and deserve to. That isn't the same thing as hoping for it.

benny covered it, but yeah, you totally did.

Not cool. I can understand there's anger about everything that's happened, but that shouldn't be turned into calling for sacking or for Evo to be punished or closed down.

That's just poor form.

At the end of the day they need to be held accountable and that might require some people to lose their jobs. I don't want the studio closed but this situation is absolutely insane. Its basically a case study on how not to launch a game.

I don't believe people need to be fired. There are other ways to 'sanction' them, but this isn't something that people should even be thinking about,

I'm sure they already feel pretty bad as it is. Their brand new IP is now suffering significant damage in the minds of gamers and will only get worse the longer this continues. No need to punish them further.

They have been 'trying their hardest' long enough. Time for some Sony & Evo heads to roll. The current situation and state is unacceptable. No, it's really not the time for heads to roll. It's the time for gamers to accept that sometimes things happen that are even out of the developers control and they are working as hard as possible to fix it.

Just as you and others are angry, I'm sure they are just as angry at themselves over what's happening with the game. I can't imagine any scenario where they are currently happy with what's happening, why do they need to suffer further?

It helps no-one.

Nobody is saying they deserve to be put to death for this. Just that they should be fired, then sued. And then their families be put to a slow, agonizing death while they watch. Hehe.

It's depressing to see a witch hunt against Evo. I really expected better. It's a bad situation, but it's not the end of the world and it's not like there isn't plenty more to play to pass the time.

It really is.

Well after looking at their last four AAA bombas like Motorstorm 1-3 and Driveclub, my guess would be "yes".
I'm pretty sure the first Motorstorm sold over 4million copies. Or did I just make that up? Lol

Also I'm sure Pacific Rift did fine too.

Apocalypse was unfortunate tho :(

I hope drive club survives and evolution too. It's such a great game!!
when the online works

No one deserves to lose a job over this don't be crazy. I don't know how you come to the conclusion that the game development was "out of their hands" though. They are the company that developed the game and released it. It's all on them.

If I remember correctly: MS1 (3.5 mio. because of bundles / PS3 launch game), MS2 (slightly over 1 mio.), MS3 (slightly below 0,5 mio).
What are these numbers based on (my request should have been more specific) and where is the Driveclub number?
