Driveclub PS Plus Edition Delayed by Server Issues

You would think Sony would have learned from the Twisted Metal launch. Hopefully this game isn't damaged from the very poor launch like that game was.

I still don't understand the concept of having people pay when the biggest portion of their game is not functioning. They have people paying $60 to server test for them, why isn't this a bigger issue?

Buuuuulllshit.

More like they regret ever promising part of it would be free on Plus and now they are dragging their feet on releasing it to squeeze out some more sales.

All we need now is to organise a twitter campaign. Because if there is one thing we know, it's that executives of huge corporations really respect twitter, and hashtags. Sony made a huge mistake today. Like Genghis Khan who was unable to manage the logistics of supplying his armies with their essential needs, Sony, too, has let down their army.

The Playstation Nation.

So it is on this day. October 8th, 2014. A Wednesday. The day of Mercury, the closest planet to the sun, and we all know the story of Icarus. A day, which is associated with the colour green, representing life and the one behind the All-in-One. A day, which for some, commemorates the betrayal of Jesus. It is written, in history. Sony's army is about to fall.

And so it begins. The turning of the tides.

Some arbitrary obscure post on a facebook page is supposed to suffice for customer support?
Maybe for some random free service, not for a global gaming platform with millions of users.
When Sony announced the demo they accepted responsibility to let it's customers know on the demos status.
They need to step up their service, people expect more from a pay service. I don't *demand* the demo, but I do demand to know what's going on and what is being done to remedy the situation... or at least let us know they're aware of the issue. No one can deny that Sony is doing a terrible job informing it's customers what it's doing. It's been how long since a system update? Have they recently even mentioned wtf they're doing in that regard?

I don't want to be rude, but I sort of have to laugh at anyone who ever took Sony at face value and thought their PSN+ money was going exclusively toward server maintenance.

Delaying the PS+ version would boost day one sales. They should have announced ahead of time that the PS+ version would come out a week after the game is released or something.

lol this actually got a good laugh outta me lol

Was looking forward to playing a AAA game (at least part of it anyway) on PS Plus, a service I now am forced to pay for to play online. I like indies, but to an extent, some AAA games would be nice too. I understand that they can't give away the big games soon after launch, but I am surprised launch games like Knack and Killzone (which is hurting for players and could use the influx PS Plus would bring) have still yet to make it onto Plus.

Right now, feels like a bit of a bait and switch. Make everyone like Ps3 Plus with the big titles so much so that when they announced it would be mandatory on Ps4, people were ok with it because of the insane value it is. But now, all we've mostly gotten is smaller indie games. Some may defend this, but you know it was NOT what you were thinking you'd get when PS Plus became mandatory.

Delaying DriveClub's Plus edition seems very lame on their part, especially doing it without any notice.

Straw man? I don't know of anyone making such a point of view including Sony. The features in firmware 2.0 where you can have someone take control of your game points to more than just server maintenance.

While the Driveclub facebook page had an announcement on it I find it terrible customer service that Sony themselves have been completely mum on the issue. It is SONY's store, not evolution's. Sony should be the responsible party here when the issue is game availability on their store.

This really is par for the course though. Sony never jumps out in front of issues to curb customer frustration. Instead they remain silent and maybe occasionally giving vague details about potential issues. All of this outrage is really Sony's fault for the way they consistently mishandle service issues.

It's a PR issue. Are they suppose to tell us Evolution told them to not release the PS+ version? Sony's best course of action was to let Evolution to explain their fuck up and that's exactly what they did 2 hours after they store updated. People should be outraged at Evolution.

That's about 14 hours after the blog post when the store update was finalized.
That's not 8 hours.

5pm on launch day. 2 hours after the game was suppose to be on the store.

https://twitter.com/DRIVECLUB/status/519637892490985472

so you are saying Sony has dropped the ball on this one?

Metaphor: Evolution shit the bed. Sony caught with their pants down.

Evolution underestimated on how demanding their game is and servers went to shit. Told Sony to hold the the game until to get the situation sorted out. Sony now can't deliver on their promise.

Have you made one serious post on this or have you only made light of the issue this whole time? Is it truly that insane for people to want Sony to have commented on the matter instead of sweeping it under the rug?

All I can say is I hope the PS+ version comes soon. Being a System admin, I know software launches don't always go smoothly. All we can do is wait and hope they've identified the problem/s causing the network issues.

But I agree. I've already said my sincere feelings. They should apologise. They should communicate. Communication is key in any relationship.

I'm now just speculating on what could happen, in the future. And also providing ideas on how to pressure them.

what's the opposite of the driveclub...maybe we can petition sony to change this game to offline only and change the name as well.

driveclub ps+ offline edition*

*must have online subscription to play
;)

so you are saying Sony has dropped the ball on this one?

No, I think they are saying that s*** happens and they are working to get things squared away and people need to stop overreacting. Are some people disappointed? Sure. And I am all for giving a company grief when it is warranted, but some of the reactions in here are ridiculous.

Buuuuulllshit.

See what I mean?

Everyone should already have one already, surely??

I was looking forward to trying driveclub today, if I'm honest though pix the cat is filling the gap.

I'm not kidding, game is pure crack.

My problem is backwards compatibility. How do I play old forzas? I heard the new one was awful?

So say we all!

Definitely disappointed that I didn't get my "free" game.

Their online infrastructure obviously still needs improvement, but I wasn't expecting a turnaround instantly. Good thing I'm not like some people on this board, and have actual patience. Also, black friday is around the corner, going to stock up on 5 more years of plus so I can support their infrastructure. ;P

I'm contemplating purchasing it anyways. It has to be better than Forza 5. (Not getting Horizon 2 because of that.)

I would imagine for that 'amazing' feature to work... They'd have to receive your game invite first, no? Or does 2.0, the newest of the sooo many cutting edge updates from Sony, also add telekinesis?

At this point, IMHO, they can keep their crazy badass 'let someone else play your game' if they'll just let me play MY game WITH others that are playing THEIR game as well. That's the real 2.0 I'm looking for.

Entitlement, this thread thrives on it. I am not saying you aren't allowed to complain, it's a really situation we don't have access to the PS+ Edition yet, but some people... It's like they are on a downright crusade against Sony and/or Evolution.

Yes PS+ is a game subscription service. As good as it is an MP paywall on PS4. If you bought PS+ especially for Driveclub, along side it's other benefits I understand you feel robbed. However there has not been given a specific release date for this edition. Only that it's part of the October content of the service. October is not yet over. It's a technicality, but a factual technicality nonetheless.Therefor Sony and Evolution are in full control over when (in October) the release it.

If you feel entitled you should have access to the singleplayer content as of right now, you should have informed yourself better. Maybe you should have even waited to get a PS+ subscription if getting the PS+ edition of Driveclub was your soul purpose.

People thinking that it was all pre-planned... Do you really think they wouldn't have seen this shitstorm coming, the PR disaster it has become? You really think they went "We'll take that damage." and with this outcome still think they would sell more copies of the game? Maybe you should watch this

Also it isn't delayed because the amount of downloads would hammer the PSN servers, as some are lead to believe, but by the fact that the game servers for driveclub are experiencing difficulties. This demo (you can call it what you want, but the main purpose it exists is to sell people on the game) would simply not give you the same experience you'd have if the servers were working. Yes you would be able to drive on 5 tracks, have some minor singleplayer progression, but none of the social interaction. It's called DriveCLUB for a reason. I'ts not in Sony's or Evolution's interest to release a broken demo (certainly when some reviews called the driving experience lackluster) and thereby unsell you on the game.

I do really believe the PS+ edition will be released as soon as possible, for all this to go away as soon as possible.

If it will release beyond October... I will be right there with you. wiith a pitchfork in my hands.

Hyperbole??? You can do that right now, I finished playing Madden online a few minutes ago. The launching of one game, and Evolution fixing the problem does not mean you loose your ability to play games online. Ludicrous.

I believe it, only because PSN is still a mediocre effort and seemingly getting worse. It feels like they aren't adding servers to account for their success in the past year and the more popular PS4 gets the more its network struggles to keep up.

It's 2014. This isn't the first year Sony has had to deal with servers and digital content. By now, developers should be well aware that by not releasing beta software to test game stability and server load, these things are bound to happen. The other problem for Sony is that upon the release of a big title their network doesn't handle it very well. These type of problem shouldn't be discussed in 2014 since they have so much experience in dealing with digital content (sales and servers). Yet, here we are, discussing online problems that Sony continues to face and unable to fix or doesn't have the funds to fix.

Yes, hyperbole because your experience does not match mine or others right? 'Ludicrous' indeed. I didn't play anything with friends the entire day yesterday because invites were either never appearing, or appearing anywhere from 15-40 minutes after being sent. Yesterday was by far the worst thus far, but it has been a problem for many for over a week. Keep marching to that Sony drum though!

And really, did I say anything about the launch of Driveclub being the primary cause? Nope. Did I say it was the launch of one game or even any game at all? Nope. I responded to what you said, which also said nothing about what you're spewing now. Well done!

As far as I am aware closed beta testing has been in place, just not with any for the public to become accepted in the closed beta test. I do not know if the problem of the connectivity issues is netcode or server side, but no matter your testing, unexpected things can happen (for all I know, maybe lizardsquad might be DDoSing the servers( I'm not seriously thinking that)) To be honest, we simply do not know what the problems are and speculating on it does not make things clearer.

Good thing that they are now charging for online gaming so that such issues can no longer occur.
They started charging less then a year ago, you expect Xbox Love caliber service already? (yes that's what I'm assuming you're comparing the service too) because they been asking for your money for over 10 years now

Was this the same way The Last of Us multiplayer on PS4 was handled: meaning, the connection issues?

I honestly don't recall exactly how they handled that issue. From what I can recall I believe it was Naughty Dog that addressed those issues.

I am speaking more about PSN issues though. The connectivity issues for Driveclub absolutely suck but that should be for Evolution to address. The way Sony has handled the PS+ debacle however is squarely on Sony to address. What do they do? They stealthily remove it from the Tuesday Store update and then act like nothing happened.

They have a history of silence when it comes to these issues. I love my PS4 just like I loved my PS3 before it but I hate how Sony handles issues whenever they arise.

MS has Major Nelson who is usually quick to address these types of issues on the MS side.

Actually, they've already announced another free location for both paid and plus versions of the game, along with a handful of new cars.

That's good to hear.

People already wanting some kind of compensation for their "pain and suffering". Only a matter of time.

My DriveClub purchase will solely depend on my experience with the PS+ edition and from what I've seen so far, the India location is unflattering, so yes they should atleast include a location that would be good and can leave a good impression on me.

You make great points, but the release date for the PS Plus WAS announced for the 7th.

Sure, a let down. But s*** happens, right? I am sure that Sony isn't doing it to piss people off. I honestly can't think of a single major release that depended heavily on servers that launched smoothly.

Against all odds, Destiny was pretty goddamned smooth from the start.

Then again, Bungie knew what they were going into with the response to the beta, so they did have a good idea of what they needed to prep for when the final game came out.

We waited 16 years for a new Star Wars movie.

And three come along at once, there is more on the way now, the original three were fine, all the rest are rubbish.

Anyway back on topic,

How many server locations does PSN, Xbox & Steam have & where are they located?

It would be interesting to find out the locations & also the capacity of each location.
