Driveclub PS Plus Edition Delayed by Server Issues

Haven't heard anything back yet. Its possible the facebook update (which was a fairly extensive explanation IMHO) may be all we get until they are ready to put it up.

Hi everyone. As many of you are already aware, the DRIVECLUB team has made the decision to postpone the release of the PlayStation Plus Edition due to multiplayer connectivity issues following the game’s launch yesterday in North America and today in much of Europe. See here for a full statement on the situation from Evolution Studios.
The team is working around the clock to rectify these problems, and we apologize both for the delay in delivering the PS Plus Edition and for any difficulty that you may have connecting to the game’s multiplayer servers.
For live updates on the situation direct from the studio, visit the team’s Facebook page and Twitter feed.
This is BS. Ridiculous.

It was extensive and clear. But perhaps it would have made sense to put it on th PS Blog too? I didn't even know there was a facebook page

Edit: ah they linked to it.

Sure, a let down. But s*** happens, right? I am sure that Sony isn't doing it to piss people off. I honestly can't think of a single major release that depended heavily on servers that launched smoothly.

The Destiny launch might have been the most stable online game launch I've ever experienced.

It's probably already been answered here...but if they sort out the server issues before the next PS Store update (ie next tuesday); will they offer it for download or do we need to wait for the next store update ?

They won't even need to wait for the next store update, they can add the game regardless.
First they have to sort out the issues though.

I'm almost positive they'll make exceptions, it's probably not even unheard of as is.

They can update whenever they want throughout the week, so it's not bound by waiting for the weekly store refresh.

My goodness, relax guys. I'm sure this is not intentional. Driveclub Ps+ was just a bonus anyway, if you want to play the game so badly, then buy it and support the devs.

I'm on mobile now, but it was on the PS Plus blog October 1 and in the email to subscribers.

Well in that case, I think Sony could reimburse those who have gotten a subscription for the soul purpose of getting their hands on the plus edition (at least for the EMEA region), for the lenght of days they miss out on their content. I think that is fair. How to organize such a thing without attracting to many "golddiggers" I do not know. I would advise people who feel mislead to contact their local PS support.

But than again... I still feel delaying the plus edition is a better step, than releasing a broken demo (especially if this could impact the online experience for the players who payed for the full version. This would be worse for Sony, Evolution but also paying and non paying players of Driveclub.

For releasing an unstable game at launch? That's silly, there are players in the OT who feel like they hit the jackpot just for connecting to the servers.

What the hell is this game even doing that would hit servers that hard?

I was under the impression its just live leaderboards constantly updating... should that really be that fucking hard in 2014?

Is there even real time competitive racing?

Its really hard to stress test servers when theres no one playing on them.

wow, here is an idea, why not release the free + version as a beta then?

Since it's something for which i'm not even (directly) paying, i ain't even mait for the delay.
Also, i'm sure they'll make up for this (maybe more tracks or cars).

Yes there is real time actual racing. Also you can send challenges based on your performance on any track to any of your friends (I think there are ghost cars but I could be wrong.) Also during the course of any given race the game offers up challenges like best drifts or best cornering on certain parts of the track, and compares your performance to your friends. There's a lot going on.

I agree, there should have been an open beta at some point. I believe there was a closed one.

I wonder if the issues mean they oversold what they thought they would, or if they just didn't allocate server power properly for what they knew they would sell.

This isn't the first game or developer that unestimated the need for servers at launch, WoW, Diablo 3, GTA Online, SimCity, Guild Wars 2, all suffered similar issues. It sucks for gamers, but I think from a price standpoint, it's probably not worthwhile for developers to bulk up on servers when the number of people playing online will sharply drop off after the first 7-10 days. It wouldn't surprise me if Evo pushed for more, and were just shot down for that very reason.

Hopefully by the weekend, this will all just be a memory and things will be working properly. I want to check out the Plus version as well, but I'm fine with being patient at this point, plenty of backlogged games to play in the meantime.

That is not a lot of data though, unless they really fucked up...

Its not even uploading full telemetry for ghosts right? It doesn't store replays online? (there are no replays I've heard?) just point values for speed and drift combos? Lap times? this shit is literally a few kb of data.

There are full replays of ghosts for challenges and they are storing every race you've ever done if you want to create a challenge from it (not sure if that's client side though). I suspect there's more going on that a few kb's.

Could be trying to open millions of database connections at the same time or something stupid, no way of knowing really.

It does have ghost, no replays yet (though I'm not sure this will become an online feature)

Holy shit the level of entitlement on here, the PS blog, and other forums is palpable. It's a delay of a matter of days, get over yourselves. I'm sure there are other games you can play in the meantime whilst you wait for your free retail game.

Can you get the PS+ upgrade version ($49.99 discounted version) before they release the PS+ version?

Highly doubt it ....purchasing the upgrade would no doubt check to see if the PS+ free edition is already tied to your account, and seeing as though it isnt released yet it wouldn't be
