Driveclub PS Plus Edition Delayed by Server Issues

Has Sony said if we're getting it this week or not? This is getting a bit ridiculous now. It went from same day as the full version to like 2 weeks and still no word on its release. Wouldn't be a big deal if they weren't flaunting it so much
Nope:

PS Plus Edition news will come as soon as we have concrete info - sorry to keep you all waiting.

That's from a comment they wrote on their own Facebook page. Apparently Evo itself doesn't have any idea.

Pretty sure it's going to be awhile. They're still working it out for the people already bought the game. They just worked it out so people can connect regularly but leaderboards are shaky and challenges aren't really up yet. Don't count on the plus version until all that gets fixed.

They must have had some major problems with how their systems handle information. It doesn't seem like it's just a server issue. It's a shame because it really is a great game. It stinks that what good work was done on the base game is being tainted by the work of the online infrastructure.

My assumption (and someone else's in this thread) is that their servers are not equipped to handle millions of of PS+ users play the game simultaneously. I hope I am wrong.

Yup I'm setting my expectations for February now. I wish they would just offer an option for a replacement game that I can play now. Im not touching this game when Bloodborne comes out and likely will never even download this game.

Driveclub is software that runs on code. Software and networking is sometimes buggy. Go figure. Movies are not software.

Well, the actual content is already done for the show, correct. Now, releasing that content to millions of users all over the world on multiple devices? Yeah, that's software and networking. They knew they'd see an increase and I'm sure they planned for it.

The PS+ edition wasn't even released, so how could it be all of the PS+ people causing the problem?

You took a condescending tone of "software being buggy sometimes". You already know that this is beyond your standard bugs that occur in games. And no need to continue the condescension that you're "more patient than some". It's not about whether you personally have enough patience to pay full price for a game and then have to wait for 2 more weeks because the game's launch is botched. Congrats to you on that. But don't come into the thread and pass this off as run-of-the-mill launch bugs because that just simply isn't the case.

Nothing I said was condescending to you or anyone else. Saying software is buggy isn't condescending, it's a fact. Saying I probably have more patience than you or other people who are upset about the PS+ version/waiting for the game to work is also a fact. Again, you can be mad all you want, that's your prerogative as a consumer. I'm just mildly annoyed at the whole situation. You guys will eventually get your game.

I haven't turned on my PS4 for over a month, so I was gonna buy the upgrade for the PS+ edition, but now I won't anymore. This is taking way too long and my interest dwindled considerably with zero news about the PS+ edition. Also, in the meantime I got a GTX 970 and my games money went to PC versions of the following games (Shadow of Mordor, Alien Isolation, FFXIII, Evil Within) and this friday to Bayonetta 2.

As has been pointed out to you a few times now, nobody disputes software can be buggy. That happens and people are pretty forgiving. This isn't a case of a minor bug though.

Saying you have more patience also isn't a fact. It's not patience. It's tolerance of bad service.

What you call patience, other would call basically being a bit of a pushover, or at worst, a mug.

I didn't mean to imply that the PS+ edition was causing the problem. The current problem has been the following:

"We are seeing a lot of activity and new social behaviours right now, but unfortunately this is pushing the servers to their absolute limits." (link)

"We can see that the majority of you can now get online, but we know that at peak times of the day it can still be hard to get connected, so we are still working to improve connectivity with every update to the servers... These connectivity issues stem from the same unforeseen server problem that we've been working to get on top of since we launched Driveclub," (link)

These problems exist with only paid users (several hundreds of thousands of customers). Adding millions of PS+ users to their servers, that are barely able to handle a "few hundred thousand players," leads me to believe that their servers lack the capacity for millions of players simultaneously. This is why the PS+ version isn't brought up by Evo that often.

EDIT

Sony is in a tough spot right now. If they admit their servers can't handle it, they admit that they were not prepared. What if Sony doesn't see a huge percentage of Plus users buying the full game? Meaning, what if they will lose money if only a small percentage ends up buying the full game and they still upgrade their servers? Are they willing to take a gamble spending their money on an investment that might not see a significant return?

I said it before and I'll say it again, Sony's mute behaviour on this brings me back to spring 2011. The arrogance certainly has never left.

Two weeks and still nothing? Why should I even care anymore. What a colossal fuck up this whole thing is.

By the time If the PS+ version is ever released, I'll be too busy playing other games anyway.

I look at it like this.

If you bought the game, I really sympathize with you. You got jipped and Sony should really have something ready for you for compensation.

If you're just someone with PS+, im sorry for your temporary loss but please, get over it. The game/server setup is/was obviously insufficient for what was about to come back to them. If they could've shipped the game perfectly working and on time, Im sure they wouldve. But that didnt happen and you have to wait a wee bit longer for your free incentive for purchasing a service with regular free incentives.

What really makes the whining ridiculous is that if Sony/Evo did what they shouldve did and delayed it, the PS+ users would still have to wait to play.

All in all I hope Sony learns what is gonna happen this generation when they bomb the launch of one of their hyped games. Think of the shitstorm that would ensue if this was UC4.

This is what I was talking about earlier.

Look, I'm sorry but you don't get to tell people how to feel over this. Call it "free" all you like, it's still a product that Sony and Evo flaunted loudly since the moment the full game was shown. It isn't worthless, because Sony and Evo certainly didn't treat it as such prior to launch. It's still part of a completely botched launch, and Evo is still being very uncommunicative about the entire process. You can't simply throw around the word "Free" as a shield for any of the missed deadlines or truly dreadful netcode. Contrary to what you may think, there are still standards to these so-called "free incentives". Unreasonable wait times and non-existent ETAs are below these standards.

Game launches can be rough.

I'm totally sympathetic to them. I bought it, and still enjoying what I've got so far. I'm looking forward to more online play and challenges.

I hope they get out of the trenches soon, and will probably still support them even after this. I'm glad they've been pretty open about it on Facebook and tried to keep in communication with us the consumers.

I think there is a growing possibility of no PS+ edition at all. There's an obvious problem with scalability in the game and I don't think it's something they can fix easily. They may just release a "we are sorry", throw some indie game and only make it work for the players that paid. I really don't see them going from their current connectivity problems to being able to handle both the standard and the free edition. This has to be more serious than a couple of bugs to fix maybe a major design problem in the way the game works, something you don't fix with a patch but with a back to billboard approach.

That would be really fucked up. They have been promising us this for 1½ years. The substitute title, if this happens, had better be something really nice, not some random indie title. And nothing I've already bought (since I've chosen not to buy DC before trying the PS+ edition, so getting something I already own would be like getting nothing). So they would really need quite a few titles to choose from to make it fair for everyone.

That would be a debacle they'd wear around their necks for years. They've had this game front & centre for several trade shows as the jewel in the PS+ crown. It would have to be some kind of apocalyptic issue for them to do that.

As this generation goes forward, I think online infrastructure and the ability for firmware updates are going to be the main holes in Sony's armor. Both items are not a problem for Microsoft: in terms of financial resources for servers and manpower for software updates. Sony will never be able to compete with them on both of these fronts (unless something changes in the future).

Lately I have come to the conclusion that the main reason Sony didn't go with "Always Online" is that they did not have the financial resources and infrastructure to take on such a massive undertaking: as seen with Driveclub. Microsoft should have an easy time with nextgen since the digital world (Always online), where our industry is headed at lighting speed, seems to be perfect for the infrastructure (not to mention manpower) that they have been building for over 20 years.

So called free eh?

Its actually getting pretty comical. Honestly dude I dont give much worth to however you may feel about this grave sin committed by Sony. I just gave my two cents. Do whatever you feel need to do to help yourself through this trying time in your life.

Sony have invested huge amounts of money into buying a game streaming company distributing servers racks full of PS3 tech for use with PS now. They can certainly spend it when they want to..

Dude, you're on a game forum telling people to not discuss the very topic of this thread. Get on with your life bro, why are you so concerned about what people talk about in this thread? You seem to have a weird infatuation with what others do or do not do with their time. It's odd.

Sigh...

Part of what makes this whole damn thing pretty annoying is that PS Plus on PS4 doesn't hold a candle to what they release on PS3 on a regular basis. Too bad some of us had our loyalty on PS3 rewarded by still having our launch consoles with hard disks not big enough to take advantage of it :/

So yeah, Sony, don't have much good to say about this, and no, Spelunky doesn't hold a candle to something like Sleeping Dogs or Nu-Raider.

Spelunky is a hell of a game though...

sony's just a failure in services this gen. their firmware updates are pretty paltry to microsoft too.

console itself is great though, but it's really lacking features.

Well, the PS4 hasn't even been out for a year. It took quite some time before Sony started offering retail PS3 titles when Plus was introduced.

And I think Spelunky is absolutely better than both off those games. Tomb Raider was fun, but forgettable, and I just couldn't get into Sleeping Dogs at all. Different people like different things, but just because those are big budget titles doesn't make them automatically better than Indie games.

Not sure what you mean about loyalty and HDD space on launch consoles though. Isn't it easy to upgrade the PS3 hard drive?

All you guys waiting, you're not missing out on anything - multiplayer still royally screwed.

Aprox 6 mins between each race, if you're lucky enough not to lose connection between races. Online total junk

What an absolute joke this has been.

Ontop of this PSN has been fucking horrendous recently too especially now that i/we are paying for the service now. (and it has nothing to do with my 120 down/120 up wired connection)

Has anyone tweeted @yosp or anyone at Sony about the issues we are having? Have they even been acknowledged?

Spelunky is a good game, don't get me wrong. It's not really the specific titles that are important here so much as the amount of money they're spending on making the program worthwhile. There's a pretty obvious difference between the value of the service on the 2 systems. Delaying this feels like a giant middle finger in a lot of ways, since it's the first they've sniffed at anything even vaguely resembling a retail title... which was delayed a year... and now who knows when it'll show up.

Upgrading the HDD is scarcely worth it these days if you have a launch unit IMO. You're better off just getting a used PS3 slim unit and transferring as much save data as you can using PS+. You're free to disagree of course.

How has the ps4 version of Destiny been? I haven't had any issues with PSN myself other than the recent slowness in friends and messages. I think this is squarely on Evo and has nothing to do with the quality or quantity of Sonys servers. You can have the most kick ass hardware ever, but if you throw crap software at it, it will still break.

Other than a couple of hiccups it's been fine (I've been playing it since day one). This is definitely an Evolution/server bug issue, not a PSN issue or simply a player load issue.

Man fuck the full version, i really want to try the demo at this point. I am not following this thread but any news on when we can expect PS+ version?

Has there been a update or date announced when the PSN+ 'free' version is going to be released?

I am hoping to get it before i get Forza Horizon 2 on 1st Nov :/

Seriously I wouldn't hold your breath for this year. The online is already broken in the month of October, the load doesn't get any better in November and December when people: 1) buy lots of games and receive lots of games as gifts; and 2) have lots more free time to play said games.

It simply doesn't make sense to then allow a potential 10 million new players online in those months to ruin the experience for retail purchasers (the people they really should care about).

Like I said earlier, February 2015 (Bloodborne to draw players away and a good distance from the holiday season) makes the most sense for a PS+ release, unless they change the PS+ version to be offline only.

At this point since they've already failed to meet their promise of concurrent PS+ release with retail, they can just treat the game like a normal PS+ game. Like most other PS+ games that are fairly recent, expect it months after the official release of the game.

Don't think so, the paid version is still a pretty shitty experience just now, it's imagine getting the plus version out is way down their list.

I have the paid version. Let's just say. If your lucky maybe next week. Things still not connecting very good.

But what I will say is when this game is at 100% it will be my favorite racing game of all time! It's so good when it works.
