DS games $30? or $35?

You apparently missed the launch with a slew of $40 titles.
TRU jacked up Nintendogs to $31.49, so hey, the whole system is fucked.

Yeah, EB is selling the new Mega Man Battle Network game on DS for $40. Talk about a kick in the cock.

Games like Mario Kart, Advance Wars, and Castlevania are worth the $35, honestly, but $40 for Lunar: Dragon Song or Mega Man is absolutely ludicrous.

most titles at launch were 64Mb.

most titles now are above 64Mb.

my guess.

edit - advance wars for example IIRC has one of the biggest flash saves of all time.

Yeah, what the fuck at Lunar? Christ, I'd snag it for $30, even though it's terrible, but now I'm just waiting for its price to crash and burn.
Mega Man I can see, because Capcom are dirty, dirty people. Even though I love them so. *sobs*

MegaMan Battle Network 5 on DS is 2 games in one.

It seems like Nintendo published games are $34.99 (and some EA titles as well) and the rest are $29.99.

Most Nintendo published games are $29.99. Most EA games are $39.99 (Sims 2 at $34.99 surprised me).

1st tier nintendo games = $35 (Advance Wars, Wario Ware, Kirby)
2nd tier nintendo games = $30 (Yoshi touch N Go, Nintendogs, SM64DS)

prettymuch anything hyped up is $35

I'd say it's more dependent on where you shop, more than anything else.
That and how soon it is after release date. Games like Lunar and Lost In Blue were $40 at an EB Games here, $35 at a Gamestop, and $30 at a Best Buy, for example.

And Circuit City often has $5-10 discounts the first week of a game's sale. I got Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald/Fire Red/Leaf Green all there for $25 each and still laugh when I see places trying to sell them for $35 even today. On the other hand, I guess I did lose out on Metroid Prime 2... I wouldn't have bought it for $50, but picked it up because CC had it at $40 the first week, and now I wish I'd actually waited until it was just $20...

For the record:

FutureShop - Mario Kart DS $49.99
Amazon.ca - Mario Kart DS $34.99

Amazon's release date is a week later...it's like they're saving on shipping in order to offer lower prices. At that INSANE exchange rate price, it's definitely smart on their part. Stupid FS.

I buy a lot of my games at Fred Meyer's. I get a discount.

I thought the deal was Nintendo published = $30?

Oh well.

At first, Nintendo's games were at $30, but now they have creeped up to $35. The good news is a lot of big Nintendo published games sell for 5 bucks off at best buy/circuit city in the first week of release.

I've noticed that Nintendogs price has increased to $35 almost everywhere I go. Interesting because it launched at $30. Anyways, Lunar you can get for 29.99 from Ubi's site, along with free shipping and 10% off your next order.

Im pretty sure Nintendo games are 29.99 MSRP but stores are jacking them up.

Im almost positive that Advance Wars DS came out at 29.99, but EBGames raised it to 35 and everybody else copied them.

EDIT: Post above me seems to confirm this. One store raised the price on the dogs and everybody else followed suit.

Im trying to think of the first game I saw this happen to. I know Meteos and Yoshi were and are at 29.99

This (edit) seems to be correct. Though I disagree with your labeling of the tiers.

Generally the $35 price reflects the depth (Advance Wars), fervent niche audience (Wario Ware, Kirby), or hardware gimmickry (Wario Ware Twisted, Metroid Prime Pinball).

Shallower, simpler, cheaper games (Polarium, Meteos, DK King of Swing, Yoshi) and surefire million sellers (Nintendogs, Mario 64) start at $30.

Fry's for the win, though that's only for the first few days and then after that it's full price - $40 for Lunar, just like almost everywhere else.

Most games up here in Canada are going for $49.99. WTF?!?! I'll give another $10 and get a home console game.

Hurry up with the Players Choice DS lineup...

Amazon is infinitely cheaper if you don't mind waiting.

you can get any game at best buy for $5 off every time as long as it's 19.99 or more. just use their gamer gift card, put $5 on it and use the $5 off coupon inside.

The only problem with amazon.ca is that the free shipping is only on orders over $39 CAD before tax so I'll wait to get it along with M&L:PiT (also $35 CAD) to save on shipping.

I agree with the original poster. DS games should not be more than 30 dollars. When did Nintendo first party releases become 35 dollars?

Pay the $5 shipping and make it $40 instead of $50; still quite the deal, even with a week long delay.

Back when the GBA was released.

That was right around the time I stopped playing handheld games religiously too.

I've bought a couple $35 handheld games, but that's the most I've spent on handheld titles, and they have to be cream of the crop (Minish Cap, Dawn of Sorrow). Anything more is too damn expensive for handheld gaming period.

Oh really? Wow.

All the GBA games I bought I found on sale for $24.99 or less. I only own 5 GBA games total so I'm not too much into the portable scene. I notice DS games don't go on sale like GBA games did.

Actually, I remember that Sonic Advance was $39.99 when it was released, and a couple Pokemon games were the same price, I believe.

About a month ago, I picked up Lunar Dragon Song, looked at the receipt, and asked for a return immediately. Looks like I dodged that bullet.

At launch, GBA 3rd party games were 39.99 but Ive always rememebred Nintendo games being 29.99. Only Pokemon was 34.99.

Most Nintendo GBA games I have I payed 24.99.

At the Nintendo World store in Manhattan, most DS games are $30, but everyone once in a while one hits at $35, even NoA published ones.

Lunar is garbage, don't even consider considering buying it period. Just don't touch it! Don't look at it! Let it DIE.

Actually I'll pick up Castlevania DoS with MKDS since I still haven't picked it up. I'll get M&L:PiT with something else.
