Datel is releasing a 4GB hard drive to turn the Nintendo DS into a full multimedia device!
Datel DS Hard Drive

Datel has announced an accessory for the Nintendo DS that will transform it from a gaming device to a full multimedia powerhouse. The 4GB MAX Media Player for the Nintendo DS is a fully functioning 4GB hard drive which attaches to the Nintendo DS via the Game Boy Advance game slot at the bottom of the handheld. With the Media Player cartridge in place, you will be able to listen to all of your favorite music files, view pictures, and watch movies right from the hard drive. The hard drive runs off of the Nintendo DS internal battery to minimize its size and weight on the system.

This accessory will come with the DS cartridge which will allow you to play the files off of your attached hard drive, as well as the Media Player for your PC so that you can easily transfer files from your computer to your hard drive via a USB cable. This device puts the Nintendo DS right up on par with the multimedia capabilities of the Sony PSP, with the bigger storage medium of the 4GB hard drive. The 4GB MAX Media Player for the Nintendo DS will retail for $225 and should be released by March so it is coming soon!

couldn't care less

1. Okay, I just searched and read the other thread. I'm an idiot for ever having posted in this one.

2. THE HDD THING COSTS TOO MUCH

I STILL LOVE THE NINTENDO DS

SHUT UP

For reference, a 4GB iPod Nano costs $249. An iPod Video 30Gig costs $299.

Still very expensive though. BUT its size is good, capabilities like video are great, [but it depends on the FORMATS it can take. If we can install codecs or something, it'd be awesome], AND, it looks like it might play homebrew applications, which may mean ROMS [Any chances of a MD/SNES emulator? GBC games again!], and loads of other stuff. Imagine a small text program to write txt files, or something like that? Little organizer? I mean, the only thing stopping it IS the lack of HDD.

I wonder how it's recognized [ie; seperate program, or more like a thumb drive? Having to install iTunes is a pain for iPod], and I wonder on the battery length of the thing. How long does the battery last on an iPod video while playing?
