DS March release lineup comparisons (aka bitching)

Not to whine or anything, but look at the DS release lineups for Japan and the US next month. Which country would YOU rather live in?

Japan:

10th: Pac-Pix (Namco)
10th: Meteos (Bandai)
17th: Harvest Moon (Marvelous)
24th: Kirby (Nintendo)
24th: Masquerade Lullaby (Genki)
24th: Egg Monster Hero (Squeenix)
24th: Space Invaders (Taito)
31st: Yakuman (Nintendo)

US:

14th: Yoshi (Nintendo)
14th: Pokemon Dash (Nintendo)
15th: Retro Atari Classsics (Atari)
22nd: Rayman DS (Ubi)

Seriously, what the bullshit is this.

ds rosebuded total

DS is totally gonna get bitchslapped by PSP in the US. They better pump those games out faster

In this day and age, the Japan-gets-everything-first system is becoming less and less of a good idea. The PSP comes out here in March, in case anybody forgot, and that lineup is not the answer.

I suppose there's always THE BIG REVEAL coming up in March, but that needs to be accompanied by some games.

what's Yakuman? Its by Nintendo,

I've said a long long time ago that the DS lineup for US is shit but no one paid any attention. :) Guess I was right. I wonder what's with the delay? 3rd parties don't seem to be coming home with their titles. I guess they don't like money? Games Vacuum = potential sales hike.

I think the big reveal is either

a) price drop

b) better bundles. Pack in Mario 64 DS with DS = winnah. Let's see how aggressive nintendo is in combating PSP

Yakuman is Nintendo's Mario-tinged beginner-oriented mahjongg game. Not the sort of thing that audiences outside of Japan are going to jump on, but still.

I wouldn't be surprised if the DS game releases are currently slow because they are holding back to launch a bunch of games within a week of PSP's launch.

I believe there's a thread about the bad one on the front page...

I can't tell, that magazine is Nintendo Power?

Anyway, is it confirmed true then the 57% score? I don't know, I'm holding out hope... really...

So you think Nintendo is telling all the publishers to simply not inform EB/GS that there are numerous games coming out in... 4 weeks?

One of the big problems with the DS is Western dev support isn't really that strong. And you know the touchscreen thing really hasn't been recieved as enthusiastically here in the US, most devs want the extra horsepower and bigger LCD display.

On the PSP you have stuff like Wipe Out Pure, Grand Theft Auto, and NBA Street already announced ... on the DS most Western devs are just phoning in their projects.

This is exactly why I dont have a DS and likely won't get one ever. The rate of releases is just too damn slow.

The DS in general isn't lacking software, but the US market is. I'm really stuck wondering how the US lineup could be so anemic when the Japan one is so asskicking.

Plenty of titles on launch day (remember they had Band Bros., Wario, Pokemon, and Polarium among others), a few releases in January and February to keep things going (Yoshi, then Another Code), and then what could only be called a third-party explosion in March.

That's some good work. Why the NOA lineup pales in comparison I have no idea.

I think soundwave 05 made a good point by making the distinction between western and Japanese 3rd party support. I've said it a couple times before--western 3rd parties aren't getting the job done right now. I don't know whether or not the lull in Nintendo's support is from time resources or from Nintendo wanting to give 3rd parties greater space in a market that has been pretty much dominated by Nintendo and few elite 3rd parties like Capcom or Square. In any case, Nintendo needs to step up before the gloss of the PSP buries the DS. With such a difference in technology, software is the only thing that levels the field.

Yes, they need US games stat. When crap like Robots (Direct GBA Port with Inventory Touchscreen) sells out, you know there is a serious draught.

Yoshi & Pokemon Dash are there so it doesn't matter if the US lineup lacks 3rd party games, its mostly just the 1st party games that sell on the DS anyway

US lineup is horrendous. Frankly, the Japanese one isn't all that awe inspiring. What's going on with a localization of Band Bros.? That at least looks interesting.

That is pathetic. It will be 2006 before the DS is truly worth the price of admission. Its western lineup is poor from western developers but the PSP's western developer support doesn't look a great amount better but its Japanese support seems more compotent in getting software out on time.

To be fair, you can't really compare a launch blast with a console that's out getting a few early year releases.

Kobun, with your gaming journo status, and your rather spiffy Nintendo mushroom cover for that book; don't you have more of a connection to Nintendo staff so you can ask them about this. If March doesn't clean up.. PSP will wipe its ass with DS.

new zelda suck up all resources? :P

pokemon dash is going to sell like mad regardless. The fact that pikachu is on the cover is automatically going to move some systems as the younger crowd begins to pester their parents.

Wow, 15 of those games are sports or racing. So much for variety on the PSP. Just another platform for EA shovelware. Makes the system look appealing for the masses though with a pretty beefy looking list of software.

But yeah, they need to do something about the lack of DS titles in the US. I love the system and the 4 games I have already, but looking at the release calendar - it's not pretty. Hopefully alot of those big games hitting in Japan this month will get a speedy localization.

The Japanese schedule is about as good as you could realistically expect a March lineup for a system that launched in December to be. Maybe even a bit over the top. Considering the established norm for a system is to come on strong with a pile of launch titles for the holidays, then slow way down in the first few months of the year (basically the situation in the US)... what they're doing next month in Japan is nothing short of a slam dunk.

It's also foolish to assume that the only games coming out for the DS between now and the second half of the year are the ones we know about. I mean, everybody knows by now that there are big DS announcements next month. Regardless of the main thrust of said BIG REVEAL, doesn't it make sense that they'd hold off on release date announcements until then?

Here's a concept: wait until later in the product life, and pick up the larger library on the cheap. :p

The only thing Nintendo will be revealing in March is how incompetant they are.

I'm usually not the type to nitpick I don't think its a good idea when calling someone incompetent to mispell the word in question. Although we get your point the irony is deafening.

Looks like the DS has more in comman with the n64 than just visuals.

I'm still skeptical teh PSP is going to sell like gangbusters though. It'll definitely sell well to the technogeek crowd, but I just don't feel it's going to get super mainstream success like the GBA or PS2.
