I got the US version of the game and just love it. the levels somehow remind me of some older sonic games. in some levels pac man gets a pretty fast speed and shoots through the levels :)

I can recommend it :D (don't know about the japanese version, though. but besides of the story there is not much to read in the US version)

As the resident Pac 'N Roll pimp, at that price there is no reason NOT to buy it. It's a fantastic little game, and some of the later stages are damn challenging too.

You won't need to know any Japanese to play the game. The only thing you might miss out on is the "Story", in which Pac Man looses his arms and legs for an adventure when he was jump [80's] and must battle a Rock 'N Roll Ghost.

All the challenges are set out in pictures [how many ghosts to eat, how many Pellets to or not to get, time], so you'd be all set.

Wing Cap = light Pac-Man, allows him to float / go faster
Knight Cap = heavy Pac-Man, can go underwater, slower

That's basically it :)

BUY IT

Hmm, I might get this now and skip Mario Kart.

That's amazing! I've never seen anyone switch the spellings of "skip" and "get" before and do it in the same sentence. Ridiculous! You'll have to watch that grammar from now on.

I had a great time with Pac N'Roll... I even paid full price for it (Jap import).
Its greatness resides in the fact that I didn't expect anything really outstanding from it, as I really bought it just because it looked fun in the screenshots, and had a great time playing it (I completed it, with challenges and time trials). I got the feeling of a sincere game: what you see is what you get.

Quick question to Rlan: a 00/08 counter appears in the ending credits (Top screen, bottom right corner). Do you have any clue on what it means?

The credits show a backward sversion of the credits on the touch screen. In each page, there is a Pac-Man or Ghost which is in a different position than the one on the top. By tapping around, you'll find it, and the counter goes up.

I don't think it actually does anything. Although when I watch the credits and it ends, I get a little Blue 80's-Rock-N-Roll-Boss on the title screen instead of Pac-Man. Whether it did this when I finished the game, I don't know. Try going to the credits and getting out of it by pressing start.

I think this is what you unlock when you get all the 128 gems, as I also have it.

And thanks for the clarification on the 00/08 issue, I'll check it when I get home.

I paid full price and don't regret it at all. I have some reservations about recommending it to everyone else at that price (especially with so much other great DS stuff out lately), but I'd say it's a must-buy for 15 bucks! It's a lot of fun, has lots of cool unlockable goals to attempt, and becomes very (possibly "too") challenging later on. (Anyone who has played it knows the exact level I'm thinking of.)

Ooh, tempting.
I'm also curious about how much Japanese there is in this game.

Yeah this game is a blast. The worst part is the slow moving storybook (just tap the screen to speed through) so dont worry about the japanese, as long as you can figure out basic moves elsewhere
