DS WiFi USB adapter availability

FlyinJ

Douchebag. Yes, me.
Is this available for sale in the states?

I can't find a listing for it, even a release date, on any major US retailer sites... and Lik-Sang is backordered.

I'm assuming import version is compatible with US DSes?

Why would you get that when it's almost same price to just buy a wireless router?
Cause the DS' range sucks so it is useful to have even if you already have a wireless router to plug it into your laptop or whatever.

A lot easier than lugging a wireless router from home to work and back.

I don't want a second wireless router. My current one is tailored to my current hardware setup but is thus made incompatible with (the very picky) DS. The dongle is the least annoying solution by far.

how about availability in Europe ? I need one.

Amazon (.de)
I've got mine now, but Mario Kart DS isn't available anymore. (Well, I think it's still buyable in stores like Metro or MediaMarkt)

Apparently better on the continent than in the UK. I got my pre-order on Saturday from Amazon UK, a week after it was meant to have shipped because of a total lack of stock in the country. It's not available on the high-street at all in the UK.

I picked mine up from a local Microplay in Toronto a few weeks ago. It works great.

I already had a wireless router (D-Link514... not compatible), and to get one that was compatible was $70+... at least the cheapest I could find. The microplay had it for 29.99(CAD), so I picked that up instead of a new router.

I've heard rumours that nintendo wasn't releasing the rumourdongle widespread until animal crossing hit the markets. Dont know how true it is, but try now, since (i think) its out now.

I'd like one just to bring around my dorm, so when I go into a friends room I can just bring along my USB thingy and play on his bean bag chair.

Its not quite that easy.. There is software you have to install on the computer, and then you have to grant permission to each DS that tries to connect. Its not the end of the world, in fact, its pretty easy. But the point is, you need to carry around the CD to install the software too :(

FWIW I'm using a third party USB dongle. You don't have to go the official route.

Anything special you gotta do to get it to work as an access point that the ds can use?

Ya I'd just install the software on his computer and and then I'd be good to go whenever I went over there, no need to carry the cd around.

Or just get your own beanbag and you won't have to deal with hanging out with that loser.

Actually, once a DS is registered with the dongle's Windows software, you can "auto-grant" permissions to that DS from then on.

Yeah, I'm interested as well. I assume I can get a regular one at CompUSA? Anything in particular it has to support?

Nope, not really. Just set it as an access point and set it to Channel 1, basic rate: 1, 2Mbps. Even have WEP security enabled.

The likelhood is that you're not posting from the UK, but just in case you are or anyone reading is interested, I bought the dongle for £20 at Argos and it's Cable & Wireless branded. The software it uses is called ZDWLAN and I think the chipset may be called wnc-0301usb. Hope that helps.

A heads up for Canadians, Toys R Us is having a 20% off all DS accessories sales this week (ending Friday December 16th) so the dongle is only $27.97 CAD + tax (regular price is $34.99 CAD + tax). It's out of stock on the TRU website so you'll have to check the stores.

in holland I couldn't find any on release in the gamestores, Media Markt had tons though. So yeah, check the bigger stores.

I've been googling like crazy and reading the Nintendo threads, and I can't figure out how to make this third-party USB dongle to work. A poster above said they got it to work... can anyone help me out?
