DS4 thumb sticks might have a problem?

Super weak if this problem is as widespread as it seems. My DS4 is fine with about ~5 hours of use.

Hopefully Sony offers some kind of refund or replacement deal, or there will be a lot of unhappy people in a couple weeks.

Extra? I've ordered the Killzone full bundle.

Gonna cancel it this week. Fuck piss farting around with dud controllers. I wasn't in that much of a hurry for a PS4 anyway. I can wait to see how this controllergate plays out.
Do whatever you want to do, but I'm not that worried about it, personally. It sounds like there's some crap controllers out there, but just keep your receipts and hopefully you'll come out fine.

And yeah Fracas, Sony implementing an extended warranty or exchange program would be awesome.

Does anyone have a guess of what the problem exactly is? I dunno about why R1 buttons would malfunction like that, but it seems the rubber on the sticks is different than other controllers.

I'm only cancelling but I wasn't THAT eager for a launch day PS4 anyway.

I'd rather wait and see how this plays out and let the game library get better anyway. I have $500AU down too so I get that back. Silver lining.

Just cancel it now... why bother waiting?

Yeah lots of people. Keep in mind he's been busy at the review event, he probably doesn't want to make a definitive comment before he can talk to someone about it.

And if this is a big deal, he may not even say anything until a possible fix has been decided on. I would gladly take replacement sticks, and install them myself. The DS4 really isn't that tough to put back together once you figure out how to get the triggers back on.

On a side note the 360 analogs will not fit correctly in the controller.

Both of my controllers still look and feel great. Intetested in post-launch and seeing if this is actually an issue, and if so, for how many.

So this is starting to spread to more and more reports, just like expected. We'll see what happens after the console actually comes out and people actually are using the thing.

Has no one tweeted yosp? He's been so responsive about shit

I doubt he'll say "Oh yeah, DS4 might have crappy rubber on the analogue sticks. We'll have it fixed later though don't worry."

He answers some controversial questions but I don't think he'll answer this one.

I really can't believe this. Didn't controllers go through stress testing first?

If I had to guess I'd say something happened in manufacturing. Specifically for those sticky R1 buttons.

The rubber, I don't know. Maybe they changed the type of rubber between stress testing and actually making the controllers, thinking it would be fine.

Damn that material they use on the PS4's sticks look horrid. Hopefully there isn't a mass amount of controller problems come launch. If there is, I hope for it to be fixed quickly.

Man this really has stinks to hear. This could be disastrous if it is widespread and as bad as it seems.

No it really wouldn't. People are making a huge damn deal about the sticks when it's looking like people are gnawing on them. The R1 button sticking is a potential problem, but nothing tremendous. It's almost launch day so people are hyping up issues to great heights when they are slight inconveniences at best.

Nobody wants a refurbished controller, especially right out of the gate. If this is as serious as it's appearing they better offer brand new controllers.
It's also a pain in the ass to ship off a controller and wait for a replacement.

Just because you have a bad one mean the others are defective?
"Others" doesn't imply "all others".

Dammnn with the analog stick placement already in an unnatural position
That's a topic for another thread, lol.

Even people who've been using it normally have reported issues. It's weird to me that some of yall feel the need to misrepresent what people have been reporting.

its called a warranty
I don't want a new controller if it's a design flaw. Fix the issues and give people refunds. Getting a controller right is basic; I'm guessing DS4s were tested for thousands of hours, and it's weird that these kinds of problems are popping up.

Have you used it? I've played 360 for 8 years and adjusted within an hour. Vast improvement over the Dualshock 3.

Multiple people here and outlets are having issues. It may be a pretty small percentage, but it appears to be a problem.

as ive stated before...this is a COMPLETE non-issue...

if yours falls apart...get a new one...if it becomes a widespread issue...Sony will fix it...just play your games and enjoy them...if your sticks crumble...you'll get a free controller

If they did then I think they only did stress testing on the center. It's the rim area that wears away. Simply going back to the DS3 plastic may fix the issue.

ehh I disagree, the center on plenty has worn away. Friction is made so easily with this type of rubber and it affects it fast.

This is the problem... it looks like it's been beat up, but it's barely been used.

How are buttons on your controller not working correctly not a big deal?

No one wants to ship off their controller for a replacement and not be able to play their new PS4 for two weeks.

like i said...if its widespread then it will be fixed...i assume as well that they were tested...but you know Gaffers...probably chewing on shit just to prove there is something wrong...

the buttons work just fine...the analog sticks look like in some cases the rubber can be worn off...big difference...

You call crumbling sticks a non-issue? And we have no idea if Sony will step up and replace them if the problem is widespread. Hopefully they will.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

II don't know what to do. I dont' WANT to cancel my order, but I don't want to go through the fucking hassle of replacing controllers every god knows how often. It's not something I should have to worry about.

I'm thinking I'll give it a bit more time. My PS4 doesn't arrive until Christmas Eve in Australia.

That gives well over a month for the Yanks and basic console Aussies to be the controller beta testers for me.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU.

I don't think this is a widespread issue but I hate people trying to downplay problems as user error. Why would someone ruin their DS to prove a point? Makes zero sense.

Man this really has stinks to hear. This could be disastrous if it is widespread and as bad as it seems.

It's not disastrous. They'll have a repair/swap program if it gets to be a meme :). It's also good that this is getting out before launch, it means that the problem is evident in most controllers so Sony will work to fix it faster.

I would think they will. If I remember right, wasn't Microsoft pretty aggressive with their refurbing of red-ringed consoles?

For what it's worth, the people having these issues seem to be in the minority.

What I'm seeing in these videos is not "just fine."

There's a difference between a button to working correctly and a button being non-functional. They're functional, sure, but they aren't working right. And this is before launch, who knows if the issue will worsen.

yes its a non-issue until its actually proven to be one...and yes, Sony will replace them...even if they never do a redesign (they will if its really that bad)...your controller is covered under a 1-year manufacturers warranty...just keep getting a free one...

eventually Sony will get tired of losing money on free replacement controllers...

The hell does that mean? People aren't gonna ruin 50$ worth of an accessory to prove a point to win an imaginary war.

you obviously dont know NeoGAF lol

Yes, while a vast improvement over the DS3, imo the XO controller is still better especially how cool the impulse triggers feel (this feature really feels innovative one you use the controller, hard to describe) and not to mention the better sticks.
