Yeah, looks like this can/will happen if you play in a certain way. Not trying to defend anyone , but it probably won't happen if you don't push the sticks too hard? It's like there's a sharp edge which damage the rubber.
Hmm. I got some "grip-it" pads to put on my sticks, but in a way, I want to also be able to claim that it's broken when they finally get a new version with better rubber out there.
Decisions, decisions.
You're holding it wrong, 2.0?

This is not flamebait but I remember seeing a video on the Xbox One controller on how many millions they spend on R&D for it, and how they had the controller machine/robot tested for durability, using 3D printers, and how this compared to Nintendo's approach to building the Wii:U controller in a much simpler way. Kind of makes me wonder if Sony didn't do these things.
got my ps4 earlier today have been playing resogun and knack for last few hours... my controller is fine... the rubber on the sticks feel great... having used the controller i can't imagine how some of these sticks are getting butchered like in those pics...
*shrug*
I can't quite figure it out either as mine is rock sold still and not wearing at all. Maybe sasquatch hands or guys just manhandling them. I don't particularly trust reddit after all the reports of Microsoft shilling the last few months. I guess we'll find out today and in subsequent days, if it really is just an isolated issue.
Yikes. From a poster on Reddit:

Lol nice.
Just been in town and popped by the PS4 demo setup in Argos, both pads have wear to the left thumbstick just like the OP
The Console has been there for about 3 weeks so I imagine it's taken a fair bit of abuse, but it's still not really looking good for those thumbsticks![]()
The rim is so sensitive that I just mostly keep my fingertips in the middle just like the DS3.Nah somebody obviously sandpapered them... lolrite?
I had to ask this for half a day before getting an answer
Long story short - the DS4 at least is ever ever so slightly smaller, so my speedfreek may fall off![]()
Where do you get these grips? Who makes them?My left stick is slightly less "grippy" than my right. Bout to slap some grips on that bitch.
The reason the thread is big is because we're having a huge product launch with potentially defective hardware. That's a pretty big deal.

I think I see something.
I see a market there. :-D![]()
Yeah... This is going to be a problem. I don't even play that rough, and already the controller looks much worse than all of my dualshock 3 controllers.
The fuck were you thinking, Sony?
A market for dead thumb stick? I agree.I see a market there. :-D

Thinly rubberizing any plastic thing that requires finger contact is just dumb, especially something with excessive instances of contact like thumbsticks. Hell, the rubberization on my Harmony remote has almost completely peeled off and I hardly handle it more than a couple minutes a day. Really disappointing and short-sighted, Sony.

Market for thumbstick rubber caps. The rubber has nothing to do with the stick itself. Pretty basic knowledge mate...
Mine's mutilating itself too, after 2 days of use :/
