DS4 thumb sticks might have a problem?

We still have no word on a new version, right?

Was it really just the 11F1 batch that has this problem? Or do we have cases regarding other serials, too?

I need to send in my second controller soon, but I'm not quite sure if that's helpful just yet.

Mine is basically destroyed at this point. One entire edge has peeled off. I keep my stuff in pristine condition, no issues like this ever before.

Any thoughts on what to do at this point? Who should I contact in Canada?

Problem is people is not making enough noise for Sony to openly discuss the matter, the same way gamers rally against online DRM people should take to twitter posting pictures of their torn DS4 joysticks so sony knows this is a serious problem

Can it be that some people sweat is more acidic than others? I have the 01 G batch controller, it's still like new for me except for a bit sticky R1. Sticks are as new as well.

I got my ps4 from Amazon, launch day. my ds4 left stick is going to shit too, what are people doing about it? I read one guy got refunded some cash from Amazon, is this a common thing people are having success with? I'm fuming about it, so bad.

I just got some of those stick covers today as mine were coming apart. I am using the concave ones that are the same as 360 and straight away the DS4 felt so much better to me and my thumbs don't slip off anymore. They only cost about £4 and I think they are well worth it, thumbs up from me.

I bought mine in December. My hands sweat easily, and while playing today my left thumb slipped all of the sudden and I noticed that my sweat must've broken through a film of the top layer of the stick or something. It felt really oily (whereas it wasn't before -- I clean my controllers) with a thin film of black sludgy... rubber? It didn't smell bad, but it has never happened to me before. The edge hasn't cracked, yet, but I can see it start to peel now.

I never had this problem on the XBOX 360 (but the stick concavity warped after years of use).

After 200+ hours of use, the rubber on my sticks is great.

Unfortunately I have a different problem, the left stick is starting to spaz out. When I constantly press forward it will sometimes stop for a split second. It's very noticeable in BF4 when I'm sprinting and suddenly go back to walking or stop altogether. I've noticed it in Warframe and the FFXIV beta as well. I'll be running, suddenly stop, then start running again. Sometimes it happens several times in a row and my character looks like it's having a seizure. At first I thought I was going crazy or maybe it was just lag (BF4 has its fair share of stuttering/rubberbanding) but it keeps getting worse. I'm resigned to the fact that I'll have to buy a new controller three months after launch.

Which ones did you get? I cannot for the life of me find concave ones. They all seem to be convex... esp those white topped gel ones from GameStop. They're not bad but i'd love some deep concave ones that fit the DS4's concave sticks.

I got the Orbz ones off of Amazon. Here is a pic, they come with a set of the concave ones and convex ones in the pack. I really like the concave ones they feel so much better than the original stick to me now. I am tempted to put a convex on the left stick and keep the concave on the right to see how that is.

Good thing I now have 19 replacement thumb sticks in addition to an extra second controller...I'll probably be an expert in DS4 assembly/disassembly by the end of this gen.

An option to replace PS4 thumbstick rubber could be ripping all of the old rubber out, pouring some glue and putting replacement rubber on there. This would not require opening up the controller. Any rubber replacements on there that are designed to be glued on to the bare plastic?

Why use glue when you can just put grips over the sticks? No mess, no fuss.

It has nothing to do with the a bad batch, it's a bad design imho.

I finally got my controller stick covers from China a week ago, but they would not fit over the broken joystick cover, so I had to remove all the rubber left on them and to me the problem to me was clear... There is there is only a minuscule amount of rubber, it's probably less than a tenth of an inch, and it's positioned over somewhat sharp plastic edges. It's pretty much inevitable with constant R3 and L3 pressure and usage, that they would break. They need to go back to the drawing board, either making the coating out of hard plastic... Or making it so there's more rubber, in a way that ensures that it can be pressed on for years without breaking apart.

On a side note, the joysticks cost me like 1.50 on ebay shipping included, and after sanding the small dots for them to feel less inconfortable, it's okay. I still much prefer the old feel of a pristine DS4, but hey, at least it won't degrade overnight.

Just noticed a lil slit in my left stick. What the fuck is that from? Using Netflix? Ive barely even played any games. What a piece of crap.

Today I noticed the rubber is starting to break.

Damn it, what a shitty controller.

It's the best shitty controller ever though.

Both of mine have slight wear but nothing too bad. I can't believe Sony is completely silent about this, Yoshida ignores every tweet I throw at him regarding the sticks. Fucking absurd, I know he sees the tweets but only acknowledges the "thank u sony luv ps4 so gr8" tweets. Bastard

It really is a great controller. So comfortable and done right. They just need to sort this out. I'm on my 3rd and they've all had this issue. But it's easily fixed if they can just get on it before infamous and metal gear gz because then we will really see some complaints

that looks good. I may order a set for the sake of diversity.

Went into game today.

they had a ps4 unit hooked up with 2 controllers, both controllers had the left analog stick completely ripped of ( rubber part was gone)

One of the reasons why I am delaying the purchase of the red ps4 controller.

I also have these same ones, and they are awesome. The convex ones are much better than the concave, and much better than the naked stick. I bought two packs. As I have two controllers I wanted the convex on both controllers.

I think i'll order some today, then. My Grip-ITs are doing the job nicely, but hey...maybe these are an upgrade? Let's find out.

I got the same rubbers and my left stick started to peel when I was putting them on. Well, at least now they won't get worse and I really like the convex version. It ended my problems with hurt fingertips because the original sticks weren't comfortable.

But this is not the quality I expect from Sony products. I am disappointed.

Here's mine, bought on the European launch day in 29.11. Platinum'd Resogun with it, completed KZ:SF, Flower and Tomb Raider, and played some FTPs on top of those. The sticks still look the same as the day I bought it.

I might buy those caps for the sticks just in case though, as they're so cheap.

Mine are doing fine. I've put 70+ hours into Battlefield 4 and probably 15+ hours in other games.

My R1 was giving my problems, but works pretty well now.

Could be the image quality, but the left one certainly looks more flaky than the right one. That's how it started for all of my DS4's and then it escalated quite quickly.

I did same thing - I tried both and prefer the convex ones (the ones that protrude outwards from the stick in the centre) with the nobly bits on.

Thought I would prefer the concave ones but after a day with box the convex felt better...

Remove the "l" before ".jpg" to see a bigger version. The sticks look the same, for now.

EDIT: On a closer inspection, I noticed the texture on the center of the right stick feels a bit more smooth than on the left one.

I'm sorry but I think it's just a matter of time, too :/ Much clearer in the bigger version.

This will probably be the next step (made that photo a while ago, it looks much worse now):

Which batch? 11F1 or G02?

Paid for a new one, and it is already showing signs....

Still waiting for the one I got replaced..

Wow sony do something about this please?

Its the best controller ever otherwise, such a comfy feel to it.

That happened to my controller as well. The down-left direction does not register properly, and will completely spaz out as well. New controller time, as sony said they could not cover it.

My sticks on my first controller are getting smooth and slippery. Only had it since Christmas Eve. I ordered Geltabz stick covers. Should be here Friday. For such a great controller design, the build quality is suspect. PEACE.

Those orbz look much nicer than the grip-its. How is the actual grip on them? Bought the grip-its but I the grip on them was worse (to me) than the stock ds4 sticks

Hmmm, I got mine at launch and I haven't had any trouble. I have been worried about it though, so I do clean my sticks maybe once a week hoping it doesn't happen to mine.

Hmm. No problems here other than losing some texture. Maybe obsessively cleaning is wearing these things out?

I mean, they're gonna wear eventually. my 360 controllers use to have their nubs wear out pretty fast..

Yeah, so mine was stable for a while then quickly got a whole lot worse. I now have a cut in the rubber on my left stick. Is Sony still offering replacements (EU here). Either way I'm gonna have to run to the store to get a second one, don't want to be controllerless for that long. What bullshit. Is it a early/release batch problem or do I run the risk when buying a new one that I get the same problem again?

I feel it depends on the physiology of the user. I have 2 controllers that both became smooth and slippery after ~ 100 hrs each. I get sweaty hands and feet all the time, this could have easily attributed to the decay of the sticks.

I'd love to get a PS4 but this issue and the lack of OS updates are really holding me back. Why don't we see the press cover this like they should? 2 friends of mine are already on their 3rd ds4 and it's a shame because the pad is great.

The press are too busy focusing on stories like of that 1 guy who found a weird liquid on his Xbox.

lol at first its because were too slobby, now its because were too clean. it has nothing to do with cleaning the controller.
