DS4 thumb sticks might have a problem?

I never claimed them to be identical I said they're handling it in similar fashion. Both were sent out with an expiration date far sooner than anybody ever expected. I'm saying this hypothetically as a reminder before everybody jumps down my throat. I'm not even trying to press this issue I'm just sick of hearing "Hyperbole! RABBLE RABBLE! 360 cost 400, ds4 cost 60".

You're still at it in this thread?! I gave up reading your conspriracy theories hours ago. First, prove it is a widespread problem. I'm still not seeing mass amounts of consumers complaining about disintegrating toggle sticks. I'm looking around and can't find much at all. Not saying there is no problem at all, but you are blowing it way out of proportion.

I don't know. We've sold many PS4 controllers already(they aren't street dated), we haven't had any returned with this issue. Customer satisfaction has been glowing for the most part.

That's what I was saying earlier in the thread. The DS4 has almost perfect reviews on Amazon and other retail outlets online. It's the 30th most sold item in the US games category for all of 2013 and it hasn't even been available for purchase very long. That's quite a few that have been sold. How come we're not hearing bitching and moaning from more people? I guess we'll have to wait until next week to see if it is really an issue or just a small minority experiencing problems.

Picked up one of these today. Its a lot smaller than I thought it would be. But at the same time it feels good in my hands. The sticks are a bit small for me since I'm used to the 360 pad, but I think the transition to DS4 will be a lot easier than I imagined. The triggers are a lot better than the DS3 that's for sure (360 triggers are still better imo). All around a great controller. I can't see the damage in the OP ever happening through normal use.

I'm always skeptical about damage like that too. Especially showing it within days of a new product's launch. It may be legitimate damage or he saw some slight wear and then performed some "stress tests" to make it look worse and then posted on reddit for all to see. It appears he let his dog have a go at it.

That there is exactly why people shouldn't wave off any problems that might or might not occur with the DS4. The controllers hasn't been out for very long and if multiple people already report that small flakes are starting to fall off the analog sticks that isn't a good sign. It may just be defective batch, anti-chemical, or a protection layer that is slowly chipped away. You can't just wave this away as a none-issue by saying "He used it wrong, he let his cat play with it, he etc".

I just hope Sony doesn't switch to the DS3 design for the sticks if there is a problem, those sticks suck.

Depends how well a harder material works with the new design I suppose. If there is no grip with the harder material they may just fall back to the older design.

Well. This thread has changed my mind- thought there was no problem/couldn't be an issue, but there's just too much prerelease reports of issues.

I'm gonna hold out hope and assume that it was a bad batch, and pray that my ds4 isnt affected.

Sony's used a design similar with a harder material in the past, this was also a better controller than the DS1, shame they scrapped it (the handles were longer and the concave sticks were better)

Here's mine after a week+ using it with my PC (and a bit with my ps3).

Holding up fine so far. If anything I've shitted up the dpad with spelunky runs.

Rubber looks cheap as fuck to me. Might have to invest in those rubber caps people have been posting here.

They may have to provide a solution like that to all users, sorta like the Wii and the wrist straps.

That's assuming that this problem is real, which I have some doubt. Time will tell, however, as people will be using the controller over the next few week/months.

You have doubt that people who are right now using these controllers on games are starting to notice the texturing on the sticks to be starting to wear down? It's not like we're buying these PS4 controllers so that we could spread anti PS4 FUD.

This a really poor quality response and I don't know why it persists. You can disagree with someone without being flippant. Responding to say you aren't listening also has its problems. Few threads have multiple posters taking photographs of the concern yet somehow the baseline for this conversation requires even more evidence. This thread reminds of Chappelle's version of the R Kelly trial.

I hope this problem doesn't become widespread, but here's also hoping it's adequately addressed if it does. No harm in getting the word out now.

Damn, huge difference between the two controllers. Xbox One's sticks looks perfect.

Well so there is one thing that the XB1 controller and my ... have in common. :D

Did... did... did you just wrote that the controller of one ofthe new consoles is placed 30# in the games category of an online retailer!? Nobody is fucking shocked, it should and will be in the top 10 or 5 already.

Those are hideous lol

Damnit you caught me I'm starting a conspiracy! I'm working in cahoots with the 10-20 others in this thread reporting the issues! I also worked on the podcast posted in the OP. You're the whistleblower we deserve!

omg high demand item selling well on amazon no wai!? Btw the controller is selling well for a console THAT'S NOT OUT YET! There is very little widespread use of this controller and we're already getting reports. This is where my concern comes from... not sure how you don't get that.

I think it's about the person who is using it, I just played knack for like 10 minutes at eb games and I don't think the DS4 has any problem, it's different that people play with their nails.

I've been using mine on my ps3 to play marvel vs capcom 2 and black ops 2. Just minor usage but my R1 button feels funny after just barely using it, it feels like it can get jammed if I keep using it or something.

I'm a bit suspicious why Amazon was giving out $30 coupons for DS4.

Seems like Sony knows about this problem already.

I dunno. They look discolored, like its a porous plastic absorbing skin oils or something. Gross. Wash your hands before you use the console!

Also I've been to kiosks where I'm pretty sure people have bitten the sticks.

Still, have any gaffers that have DS4s seen anything?

This. I know some of y'all eat while playing games (chips and shiz) but there need to be some proper etiquette. The controllers suffer.

I've been playing a lot of games that use the analog sticks(on PC). I keep my fingertips in the center most of the time rarely using the rims, and they are in excellent condition still. I've owned the pad for two weeks so far. Should I be worried or what?

Just seen a demo unit, left stick of the left hand controller had a little hole in it. Shape of the sticks feels a bit weird over all to me but I'm sure I'd get used to it.

Have some shots actually from a kiosk near my house after probably 5 days use. I'll upload in 15 minutes.

I used my DS4 to finally play through Killzone 2 (something I never enjoyed with a DS3) and now my R1 also feels like it's hanging when I use it. The right side of it will hang up time to time and cause a delayed release of the button. I figured it was just me.

The sticks are perfect though.

Nope, just the internet grasping for straws trying to finding things to spread FUD....

Considering I'm a massive sony fan, not trying to spread any BS, just showing what I've experienced first hand. It's not as bad as what happened to the picture in the OP, but they definitely do wear down fast.

The picture that started this seems quite obviously like the stick was cut with something. The following pictures are from demo kiosks, which are notorious for how screwed up they can get. I don't buy it, personally. With that said, launches are launches. We should all know by now that there is an inherent risk with console launches. If you're worried, hold off for a while.

You're still in here trying to push your shitty Amazon review "evidence". Jesus lol
