How soft are the analogs?
Not really soft at all, perhaps harder than the ones on the DS3.

Ya'll are killing me.
$5 grips and your controllers will be set for the foreseeable future. All I can do is recommend them, I guess. Any brand will do I'm sure. But damn...for all the money you guys spent on your consoles, extra controllers, games and shit...I guess I'da thought people would be more proactive about protecting part of their investment when it's a matter of $5 bucks. It's lame to have to do at all and I get the principle of the matter...but fuck it. It's $5! I'd rather not have had to buy a screen protector for my Vita but guess what? Them shits are protected too.
A $5 investment would have prevented every frustrated poster from being in this thread. As I said before, as SOON as I saw this thread (days before I got my launch PS4), I said, "nope that won't be me" and ordered my grips. I got them bitches from Amazon before I got my PS4 and put them on as soon as I took the DS4 out of the box. Happy camper is happy, and this thread is my daily reminder that it was $5 well spent.
I hope others who have read through this thread and haven't gotten their PS4 or aren't having any problems with their sticks plan on being proactive. Lest you add your sticks to the pile shitty/broken sticks.
Good luck to all of you either way.GET SOME GRIPS YOU HEATHENS
Not that I'm aware of, but I'm sure some are coming.
How soft are the analogs?
My analogs feel very soft on both my DS4s. It's one of the things I love about the controller, the sticks are so soft and grippy. Neither controller shows any signs of wear, and I've put dozens of hours of hard COD play on them.
I'm still convinced there is something related to how people's thumbs rest on these sticks. Someone in another thread on this topic complained of pieces of his analog stick ending up under his thumb nail. That tells me his thumb nail is somehow in contact with the analog stick.

We're on page 37 and dozens of photos, even more testimonials - it's not the user.
Thinking of picking these up, I think the ps4 analogs are too small, these look more wide and look good imo.

how easy of a mod was this? i thought i read someone that said that the sticks didnt fit and you had to file them.
also does it effect the looseness of the sticks at all? xbone stock controller is looser than i'd like and i prefer the ds4 in that regard.
Fits just fine, doesn't effect the resistance at all. It's a pretty simple swap, the only concerns with taking apart a dualshock 4 are the triggers popping off, and the touchpad cable coming loose.

The problem is the thickness of the pole itself (har har) - the centre plastic stick the top is attached too, if that's physically too thick, the sticks will literally never be able to go full "255" to the left / right / up etc - they'll be ever so slightly off and you can't change sensitivity.
Not saying it IS too thick but it's something to consider.
I've actually purchased DS3 sticks from ebay to install into my DS4 if they ever peel, I was going to off the bat because I don't like the DS4 "short sticks" (less leverage) but I'm getting used to it now.
Did you buy 3'rd party XBOne sticks or actually dissect one?

Mine left stick is peeling of...made a thread about it. It only peels of the black controller ive got with the PS4. The blue one is just fine.
I called Sony in Europe, they said I could just send it back.
I'm a fully signed-up member of the lay-down-in-bed position for playing games, it means the controller sits differently in my hands than when I'm seated (arms wider and higher). My thumbs don't rest flat on the analogues, they're more on the inner nail area.
I noticed the left stick on one of my DS4s has two splits/holes during a particularly frustrating session of Knack crystal farming. Will try the replacement sticks at some point, but it's not a problem right now as it's not nearly bad enough to affect playing at all.
Wow Amazon are great. Just called them up, they're well aware of the issue and are sending me a new controller free of charge. And I get to keep the one with the crumbling analog stick.
amazon replacing the controller means this issue is bigger than many imagine, probably this will happen to every DS4 eventually, hopefully sony will take notice of this giving the fact that the biggest Eretailer already has

Is amazon replacing controllers that came with the PS4, or just controllers bought separately?

I did the same switch a couple of weeks ago and posted my impressions here in the thread. The sticks are virtually the same - thickness is exactly the same (measured with a calibur tool). The only difference is that the xbone ones are higher.

Ah ha, we now have a second admission of nails playing a part!

I measured it on my PC, i'm not losing anything with the xbox one sticks. They are direct pulls from a real xbox one stick.
There are xbox one sticks that are shaped like the DS3 analogs. I want to try those in the future, as I prefer those as well.

The downside of the xbox one sticks are comfort and surface space. The ridges feel like sandpaper.
DS4 would be the perfect controller if it wasn't for the ridiculously small analogue sticks. I thought I'd get used to them but i haven't. My thumbs are always slipping off and it is getting very annoying.

I don't know what kind of sandpaper you are used to using, but I can assure you that my xbox one sticks don't feel like any kind of sandpaper I've ever used.

Not the interior part, but the edge of the sticks. They are gritty.
But it's made out of rubber (that doesn't fall apart after a month), not silica. I wouldn't want to use a sandpaper controller. The Xbox One's sticks, however, are fine. I haven't noticed any discomfort associated with using them to play ACIV for 50+ hours.
I just went to amazon chat and asked them if they could replace my controller and they said they could go ahead and give me a $60 promo credit so I could just reorder a controller. I suggest the rest of you should go try that.
It might be because I'm Amazon prime and buy the majority of my games/etc. goods from Amazon.
stop. these are valid complaints.
