DS9 Remastered with Machine Learning? | 4K Comparison Trailer

Was looking for a new media player and noticed that nvidia shield pro has AI upscaling now which increases the quality of lower resolution video material drastically then i hitted this interesting thing that somebody did last year.

I must say this looks really impressive and frankly een old series that never got out of the 480 area could heavily profit from this in the future.

 
i ran across an ai upscaling video and its simply incredible what can be achieved.

this is a compilation but i've timestamped it to a DS game, the upscaling looks like those TV police shows where they comically say "enhance" its absolutely unreal. 2d art is probably inherently easier to upscale but geeze look at this.

Go watch the DS9 documentary, 'What We Left Behind', they have complete sections upressed to HD and Widescreen from the original negative.

I know some guys that do this with music videos
They take Master 480p version of say a Rihanna Music Video and

Stills don't do it justice but it looks like real HD in motion but it just been AI Upscaled
And not like those YouTube shitty Remasters
 
Wasn't the Ds9 4K remaster done by one of the leads at exremetech ?

I had seen some reports from his work in progress and although not really my thing, the difference was night and day and a huge step up on what was used to feed the machine learning tool

so many movies this could come in handy with and much better than some blu ray remasters (predator original blu I am looking at you 🙈)

This looks like it has to be re-drawn to see a difference like that.

I have seen a lot of low-res images being reconstructed and look great but if the original image lacks too much information, a lot of weirdness can happen. Like, if you see at the face of the character in the low res picture, there's simply not any information at all to upscale it like the resulting image. There is no trace of a slightly opened mouth at it's side, no eyes, no separate hair patches. This is re-drawn.

Who gives a shit if the actress is crazy or not, this is a show from a 100 years ago. You can still fap to old images of her.

But this remaster looks great and I'd wish there was an official release.

Completely insane how much detail the AI is able to infer from so little visual information. This should be standard in consoles and TVs. It would no longer matter what resolution or format you video comes in, it'll look amazing. I would no longer need to wait for 4K blu ray remasters of my favorite old movies.

Unfortunately, YouTube compression doesn't do it justice. Had been sitting on the bluray since release and popped it in last week - man, it was friggin glorious

this seems more important for Babylon 5 than anything else. that will probably never get an HD release due to legal issues.

but its great that this kind of technology exists; will probably help all of those things that don't have their source available anymore. it will always be best to go back to the source, but since there are things that catch on fire etc, this is a great way to at least "start" remastering some of that stuff that can't
