Damn between this and Planetside we've sure got large scale battles covered. Game looks amazing.

Just remembered it was PS3 exclusive. Hm guess I'll be skipping it then. Glad for PS3 only gamers though

What's the limiter on bombardment is what I want to know.

It'll probably be like how titan doomsdays are handled in EVE. You can only fire a doomsday weapon once every five minutes. When you have a fleet of titans, however, the situation turns ugly since those ships have so much EHP. Recent and upcoming nerfs are set in place to thin the current number of capital ships.

With orbital bombardment on Dust's side, however, if it isn't time based like doomsday weapons (and even in that case, I doubt the timer will be a mere five minutes), I wouldn't be surprised at all if it's a thing you can only call down once per engagement. As for EVE's case, I'm pretty sure whatever ship you're using to strike has to be anchored at some point. Sort of like how dreadnoughts have a siege mode.

Interestingly, the ship used in this demonstration is an Abaddon, which is an Amarr battleship. Previous Dust media gave everyone the impression that dreadnoughts would be the only ships with this function, since they're designed for structure shooting and whatnot.

We'll probably hear more details on the EVE-DUST link tomorrow, as there will be more focus on EVE's future developments.

What do you mean FINALLY? There are plenty of fleet doctrines in nullsec alliances that utilize battleships. If you aren't involved in that sort of thing, however, I guess I can understand. The Ishtar and Tengu are PvE gods, so once you've trained for those, using anything else is kind of pointless.

I was only being humorous, trying to illustrate [my excitement] that it will give me a reason to return to EVE again and actually use my battleships. So yes, haven't been involved in that sort of thing in a long time.

That video is nice but it's only 64 players? What? How is that an MMO if numbers are limited?

Was thinking about that too. A possibility is that they chopped up a planet in different sections. In every sections there is a battle going on at the same time. Losses and wins in the different sections have an effect on the outcome of the overall battle. So if there are 30 sections, then there are like close to 2000 people battling it out on the planet. And then there are the Eve dudes doing their things from above.

I don't know anything about the game tho, so who knows.

PC MMO Eve ship can shoot to on PS3 Dust 514's map.

I have heard Vita will be some different game to PS3 version, maybe something like Eve crossplay Dust 514.
Vita could be droid control ship or unmanned aerial vehicle for both worlds or one a time.

I don't think it'll be a game at all, more like a Dust 514 app where u can manage your account.

In what situation is there ever going to be ONE battleship over a battlezone? They should have done right by EVE mechanics and panned up to show the other 300 capitals parked over the planet.

The Longer video I just posted, had, I think, 2 or 3 ships up there, where one of the 2 guys backstabbed the other and fired on him, before starting up the bombardment.

The premise from that video, sounds like Oribital's are set up from the ground. So, don't know if you can just sit up in space, and randomly attack Dust players. Like a dust player initiates the target (of course, EVE players can just ignore the request)

It does look pretty nice, at least the interaction with EVE. Still unsure about the rest, but looking forward to trying it. I was hoping for a larger scale though, from what I gather it's going to be more like a persistent Battlefield 3 as opposed to Planetside 2 as far as comparisons go. Massive multi-hundred player battles were fantastic in EVE, a hallmark almost, it's a shame that aspect won't be here in some capacity.
 
Wow that interaction between two separate games is amazing! Though if I recall they're going to roll it out without any of that to give PS3 players time to understand everything that's going on and then a month later or so they're going to add the EVE interaction.

Can't believe this is going to be free. This looks like something I would actually pay money for. Might just end up spending the money I would of willing paid on some cool stuff micro transaction stuff.

All this thread is doing is making me want to start Eve. I keep thinking about it but it seems so intimidating.

I have to be honest though, I would rather bombard assholes from space than shoot them in another FPS. Not to say that I'm not interested in Dust, because I am to a degree.

it's just 64 players on a game, that's not really big when you compare it to like MAG which has 256

Is it 64 players? I honestly have no clue, thought it might be a little smaller. MAG is cool and all, I enjoyed it, but if you're going to call MAG 256 players then you should call Dust 64 players plus the player count of the EVE players, which is gigantic. Also as cool as MAG was, it's persistence was really weak. You were playing with 255 other people for something that really made no difference. Here you may be only playing with 63 other people but you're also dependent on the actions of all the other players in different battles with outcomes that make bigger impacts on the game's universe. Also didn't CCP said they can always expand the player count in future updates.


Anyways that's completely not on topic with what I was commenting about when you quoted me. Maps. They're claiming thousands and I'm calling BS. Probably just thousands of rehashes of maps that appear very similar with minor altercations. But then they go and claim each planet has unique terrain and features so I don't know what to think.

oh yup, its going to be rehashes, just on different locations, EVE has like hundreds of planets/moons, so in a way its true they have like thousands of maps
 
By the way, did this get delayed? Last I heard it was Summer 2012, but I went to their website to get more general info and found this,

The article was posted March 5th, 2012. Can't find anything else recently discussing the release date other than the use of terms such as "soon" or "near future." The beta started last December, seems really early for beta if they didn't plan on releasing until 2013 but who knows.

MAG is cool and all, I enjoyed it, but if you're going to call MAG 256 players then you should call Dust 64 players plus the player count of the EVE players, which is gigantic. MAG was an objective based game and you had to have everybody working together to win. In 256 mode if other people lost their letters and let the enemy capture them throughout the match you could lose even if you held your letters, so other people's actions did matter. In fact, in 128 player Acquisition mode even if your platoon did well the enemy could still win if they got two vehicles from the other side.

Dust 514 is totally different though, so I'm not sure why we're comparing the two. Well, Dust guys look sorta like Raven guys from MAG and that the three factions were mercenaries for hire just like Dust players would be. Aside from that, they really don't have much in common.

There would be those moments when a decision to either hold your position at lets say bunker A or go assist the soon to be overrun Bunker B could turn the tides.


I wonder if MAG would have been better as a TPS.

Naw, MAG is one of the best FPS this gen. It just needed some more depth in weapon selection and far more persistent values in the game. Controlling really didn't reward players enough.

I just stumbled upon the presentation vids.

I am impressed as hell with the presentation. I mean The link between EVE and this, is just breathtaking concept.

Yea it has a steep learning curve but it has a great community and once you get to know how to play its a blast.
