For the first 6 or 7 years they magically erase all the time you have for other interests. Unless you're a neglectful deadbeat. Which I'm not saying you are...

Nope, I played games with my son. For me it was two years of handhelds only, short pick up and play games. Open world games, online shooters no chance.

This was a similar progression that I made around my 30s. I've become more minimal by the year ever since. As far as relationships and marriage, for a family it's worth it but remember these ho's ain't loyal. For every happy couple and family there's another where the guy is living in a tiny apartment with a ridiculous monthly nut before he even spends a dime on his life, and barely gets to see his kids.
Self improvement is the path to finding the best potential partner, pursuing your interests and things that you respond to emotionally.

What if I was never with it?
My view is that age bring the wisdom that being counter-culture is complete nonsense. Being older we can begin what a trend is and why our parents would say to not to worry about some things.
Hobbies like video games and anime were "counter-culture". Now they are main stream and old news.
Today I'm 39 and have been working on bettering myself with various degrees of success. Giving up porn is and masturbation is a big one. I spent too much time hiding doing that. Eight hours a day playing Minecraft? It's hard to justify that in my mind when having an idea how much labour it takes to maintain a home, provide food, clothing, heat and transportation. Sure, I could try to be a video streamer but I was born into a farm so I have an idea of how much physical labour people go through to keep the lights on in the world. Gets hard to justify sitting at the computer chair all day when I know the physical labour people go through on a daily basis. Because of this I find I have to reject "the counter-culture" to keep a good conscience.
These days a goal is to reflect upon my mistakes and resentments with the aim to let them go.
My girl friend brought up the topic of marriage last night. I'm not ready yet and she too would like to date for a year. My thought was marriage within two years. Since she is 39 I do have to take into account her age since she wants to have a child. Don't want to rush things but at the same time I know I can't drag my feet. This is life.

Kids tend to watch and re-watch the same shows (once they find a few they enjoy). The DVD shelf wins here, I can say from experience. The variety of a service like Netflix or Disney+ is mostly lost on them. It's not like they'll straight-up reject a streamed show, but they're liable to complain if the service doesn't have some of their favorites.Lol if i had kids, I'd raise them on Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Yeah I'm sorta the same way. I don't mind returning to old favorites for the umpteenth time at this point.
That's actually a driving point behind this thread. Not so much interested in rewatching a lot of these macabre horror flicks I used to adore when I was younger. Wish I'd held onto to more stuff like the Back to the Future trilogy or something. @Tschumi 's 90s movie thread sorta helped me realize that "high rewatch factor" is like the highest praise a movie can get. If something is dope but you only wanna watch it once... who cares, they're forgettable

They take a big chunk of your time but all of it? Nah. Our kids slept pretty good. Or they'd be playing with their friends, watching tv, etc. Kids don't need you hovering over them every minute of the day and it's healthy to maintain your own interests and identity.
